[TUP] Stefan's Story

Day 1,174, 10:15 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by The Unity Party
This article chronicles the last two years of the Unity Party through the eyes of Stefan1992, our party’s longest serving Member of Parliament. What was it like in eRepublik two years ago? And how has TUP contributed to our society over these many months? Find out here.

It all started over two years ago. I first joined eRepublik on 2/2/2009. Yes, I was once a noob, not understanding how everything or anything worked. It was also a time when the highest wages that could be found was the minimum wage and the cheapest food was well above the minimum wage. Productivity and training was based on how well you did on these trivia questions that only a university professor of ancient history and philosophy would understand. Regions where highly populated, with London being just an average region with a population roughly double that of the other populous regions. The Unity Party was a modest party, being ranked number three in members in the eUK with around 250 members. UKRP was ranked #1 with nearly 475, and PCP was 2nd with 275 members. The Movement for Democratic Unity and the Free Thinking Party completed the list of the Top 5 political parties. Note that the population then was much higher as it is now. The Prime Minister elections were just around the corner, in which Final Destiny and his Coalition of Destiny (TUP, PCP, MDU, FTP and TRP) went on to win. It’s amazing to look back at all the changes in the last two years, so how did the Unity Party become the party that it is today? And what does the future hold? Let’s find out.

Times in February 2009 were tough. Jobs were poor, products were expensive. There were no wars for months (admins had closed the war module for a long time, and even after it restarted, the eUK did not get involved in battles). There was not much involvement within the parties themselves in helping out new citizens, as regional councils dealt with that. It was the South East Council and their food programme that helped me get on my feet. I would later become the Chairman of the SEC for many months until everyone moved to London.

I joined the Unity Party because I believe in the ideologies of the party. I spent a while doing research on all the parties, reading through info on the wiki and such. I thought that TUP would be able to provide me the platform to pursue my political future, even though at the time, TUP was only a medium sized party. In April 2009 I ran for Parliament for the first time in my home region of the South East. The South East was always a hotly contested region, it was the 2nd most populous region, and many notable candidates were running from many parties. How would a noob like me win a seat? TUP placed their trust in me, and ran two people in the South East, including the experienced Sir Graystar. To make the long story short, both of us got in, no problem. And so my political career got started.

I wanted to make sure that newer players did not have to go through the troubles I did. After becoming Chairman of the South East Council, I initiated several programmes including free food schemes, a lottery and welcome baskets designed to help newer citizens. Later on I would get into domestics, becoming uM of Education and ultimately Minister of Communications and Minister of Home Affairs, providing informative educational articles. None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for the Unity Party. The Unity Party gave me the ability to pursue my goals, and as a result I managed to reach out to hundreds, if not thousands of citizens over the last two years. Before last month’s Congress Election, I found out I was ranked #12 worldwide for number of terms in Congress. Or Parliament, whatever you want to call it. Today I am now in my 21st term. What makes TUP great when it comes to Congress Elections is that we are always willing to let newer and aspiring politicians run, while bringing in a mix of more experienced players at the same time. This diversity makes it possible for anyone to move forward with the help of TUP. I have seen many success stories happen over the last 24 months.

Teamwork.

I was Party President of the Unity Party for two terms back in November 2009 – January 2010. By then, TUP had become the largest party in the eUK, and during my terms we reached over 700 members. I will never forget the great Prime Minister election of December 2009, in which Mr Woldy secured his third mandate by 3 votes, or by 0.19% of the entire vote. What made the Unity Party so powerful was the collective teamwork in providing help for others. After the first invasion of the eUK in which Fortress London was implemented, regional councils could no longer provide the services it once gave. So TUP created the Unity Food Programme. This made sure that all new citizens would be able to contribute to society without the fear of becoming bankrupt while trying to maintain high health. Welcome baskets are also provided by the Unity Party. The idea of helping those in need and providing the best services to all our citizens is the framework of TUP.

To summarise, I will quote Clause II, Section 1 of the Unity Party’s Constitution:

The Unity Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few; where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe and where we live together freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.

It is quite clear that these values created this party to what it is today, and I am confident that if we continue to adhere to what has made this party so great, we will continue to be the party that serves the people of the eUK for many years to come.
