Tohuvabohu! Unity is Flawed.

Day 1,407, 12:24 Published in Belgium Belgium by Konrad Neumann

Policy making is not clean and orderly. It is not monolithic and well structured. In many ways policy making is like a garbage can. When you look into a garbage can, you see stuff all over the place with no order or structure. Pieces of foodstuff, paper waste, wrappers, assorted junk, etc, it is a mess with things placed at random places and there is no structure. The policy making community is just like that.

For regardless of what post some individual processed, the policy community is not in a hierarchical structure. Despite we have some positions like ministers ie MoFA, MoHA, MoE, MoF etc, while they have a large say on the issue, they do not own that field and for the most part, any one can deal with each other's issues and what the MoFA recommend does not equate to policy. As with the recent congressional vote (forum) of the NE of NL was started by goopypants and not the MoFA, Shadow.

Therefore, within the policy making community, there are a garbage heaps of ideas floating in the "can." From things discuss in the forums to backroom talks, there are just a huge heap of policy that is just sitting there in hopes of being adopted. It is not structured and things happens spontaneously and less on scripted events.

Policies are adopted in most cases, not because of the policy is better than the others, but it is of either chance, or the zeitgeist of the time. In most cases, the policy adopted is not better in substance than others and differ mainly on ideological differences. When a policy is adopted, it can be luck. For example, when the No Pain No Gain act was passed, I think it was mostly luck. For there was no real need for such a policy, but either it is due to lack of interest in the congress to pay huge attention to it or some other factors, the issue was not debated fully with all of the concerns addressed. The NPNG act was passed on luck but not merit. Other bills like the forum moderation bill was adopted base on the spirit if the time, in this case, necessary. The second kind of adoption does not have to be necessary base but that of who controls congress (balance of power), mood of the policy community, as well as the mood of the community as a whole.

Therefore, the policy making community is "organized anarchy." With that said, there is not much unity in politics. When I read on the comments and forums, people like Elynea always stress the concept of unity. What does unity mean? On what level of unity does she and others refer to? The concept of unity is loaded and I think her and other's insistence on unity is unrealistic, and counter-productive. To borrow the philosophy of Wittgenstein, words alone is meaningless. Just like the witch hunt case against Shadow, MG, Prophexy, Splashdog, and Mikhail, NLSP fails to show violations to the law. NLSP claims that the people above of negligence but not to the law. I say the word negligence, negligence, negligence. It means nothing. Unity, unity, unity... it means nothing. Words needs to be in the context of language. If NLSP is to have a case of the above people. he needs to show that there is negligence in the context of law. Therefore, Elynea and supporters of unity must demonstrate and proclaim unity to what context?

Base on the way that policy is made, there cannot be unity in context to policy making. For there are different ideas and in the end it is not structured. It is a garbage can in which elements of luck as well as timing is always an issue. This is politics and policy making. For, if there is unity on the policy level, it either means that the system is a dictatorship, or we somehow achieved a state of post-politics or a Marxist style of classless and governmentless society. Both is not and will not be the case in any countries in eBelgium.

If proponents of unity talks of the national level, then I think she is setting a dangerous precedence for she is questioning loyalty and dedication if the individual and that of the community. For is she saying that people like Shadow, MG, myself, etc are somehow betraying or is working against the "overall community" by supporting different policies? For how do Shadow etc commits acts of disunity? What does that mean? I think this notion pose more questions and confusion than solutions. For is being different, having a different ontology and world view equates disunity? Regardless, the concept of unity is problematic and is fundamentally flawed.

Progress and change is done via conflict and struggles. Be it in the realm of the garbage can and the debates, or is it progress in real life, it is through conflict and struggle. The idea of a dialectic on the Hegelian sense is the only way for progress and evolution of ideas. For is the current way of thinking, thesis, clashes with new ideas, antithesis, which can give off a new thesis.

Thesis-->
Fundamentally, there is no unity problem in eBelgium. Conflict and struggle should be encourage and supported. eBE for far too long is stagnate and complacent. The old guard does not embrace change and is stuck in the status quo. You have politicians like Ward, who wants eBE to be a great power due to his personal patriotism to the real Belgium (strange in my opinion), they need to embrace in conflict and struggle. Complacency is eBE's greatest enemy and will rot the community away.

Like I wrote in Post-Statism, The Meaningless State the state should encourage more immigration to eBE and to rock the boat. eBE needs more shock to the system and there is a need for more people to ask more fundamental questions. The more question asked, the more different opinions are obtain, the more options eBE has as a community to tackle social and political issues.

Tohuvabohu!

Ask no questions, hear no lies
There’s no smoke without a fire
Fortune always favors the bold
First deserve then desire
All that glitters is not gold

Desperate diseases, desperate cures
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
Pride goes before the fall
All things will pass
After us the deluge
We shall not last
The die is cast

The fairest flower soonest fades
The darkest hour’s just before the dawn
A friend to all’s a friend to none
You never know what you’ve got
You never know until it’s gone

Tohuvabohu!
