[Seanan] Everything you need to know: IRE-UK Treaty

Day 1,651, 09:10 Published in Ireland Ireland by Bip Kang

Hello Ireland,

There are a few articles in the media by opposing Irish factions (plus a few individuals) which take a stab at each-other over the Ire-UK region swaps. In order to end the hype, I'm going to lay out exactly what the deal is. Attempts to voice the pros and con of the deal have been lost in the heated debates, so I'll just provide a list of what people have said + whatever I can think of(Sources: A, B, C, D, E, F, G).

The deal has three major conditions (Taken from source E):
1) Ireland gets regions Northern Ireland and Scotland
2) UK gets fruit in Louth and Dublin
3) UK gets congress this month *(Or more accurately, Ireland does not directly attempt to stop the UK gaining a congress)

Below I list points I have read in all sources:

Pros

Ireland gains a Fish Bonus (Northern Ireland)
Ireland gains Scotland which borders Europe - i.e. the ability to directly attack ONE in Europe.
The latest Anglo-Irish war is concluded - i.e. Ireland has no active front on her main regions and end of the long conflict.
Allows Ireland to focus on EDEN MPP battles.
RWs in Scotland and Northern Ireland provide non-critical opportunities to gain TP medals.

Cons
Ireland loses Dublin and Louth - two regions which hold sentimental value for ingame achievements and rl affiliations.
Closure of the Anglo-Irish war removes support to the Canada-France war effort on the UK.
RWs add a drain on Irish damage and potential for hassle.
Combination of distrust of the UK to honour the treaty and possible future re-emergence of ONE power giving a constant concern of invasion from UKs established foothold in Ireland.

Above, I have attempted to bring all thoughts on the matter together in one article. If I have missed a point, feel free to say in the comments and I will respond or edit it in.

My personal thoughts on the actual deal was that I do not trust the UK to honour the treaty should they enter a position of power not to require it; That is not a spiteful stab, but from past experience not many countries trust the UK to honour treaties. However, Irish government seem to think it can last for enough time to be considered a successful engagement so in my opinion its not a huge enough concern to stop the deal. The regions swaps I think are beneficial to Irish citizens development, and hopefully in the future it would make any disagreements with the UK more like a good-mannered tussle rather than a hateful war.

However, there was criticism that the deal was not very well communicated. I am not a Dail member so I do not have access to the Private Dail, but from source G apparently 90% of the Dail signed the treaty, so I suspect there is a post within the forum. This doesn't help average citizenry but the two articles (sources D&E) released in the past months were provided.. given that it has taken a few months for this deal to initiate it still may be a legitimate criticism that further articles werent published (like, before the UK invaded Dublin) - many may have missed the first two published article or arrived in Ireland afterwards. For casual citizens those articles could of been easily missed.

That criticism does not extend to Dail members who have been elected during and since the signing of the treaty, in my opinion. A casual Dail member is a bad Dail member, and they are elected to ask questions / gather info on behalf of the average citizenry. As most know, I have little love for the Dail and the reason for that is that they have to be spoon fed by a minister to be happy, from my own personal experience. So while I understand anyone, citizen or Dail member, may have missed the articles - I'm only sympathetic to citizens. /rantover

But the reason for this article was that the debate was getting very heated. Alot of name calling and slander. Hence I looked to the blue corner and saw the roofer (and his boy toy? Welcome home NFM!) in a tussle with Kurgan (and his entertainment)... ie the guys doing the fighting. Independents are often ignored because they are boring, so I'm sticking to writing about the extremes.

All the media stuff started off with Dan Breen with "lol silly Libertard" which he pictured Kurgan shouting to Defend Dublin and Daghd'hanrahan saying the treaty was made by liars, Dublin was never mentioned anywhere etc etc. Followed by Kurgan with "Welcome to British Dublin" where he mentions stolen state funds, the "family" and same thing Dagetc said.

Now, I love to investigate. Firstly, I investigated whether or not the swapping of Dublin was ever mentioned, given that the highest criticism of this deal was that it was all cloak and dagger... it was pretty easy as that is mentioned in source D and E. Which was a huge anti-climax so I looked at what two "It wasn't communicated" critics said in my own chats with them + another shout:

My own screen shots

At this point, I think I could identify the root of the problem but I looked even further into it.. just to make sure. Daghdha and Grainne obviously missed the Irish articles.. they are a fairly active couple, I guess its easy for anyone less active to miss them, no?

Hmmmmmmmm what is this, source E?

This is my attempt at providing a neutral witness, in case anything happened to those comments :3 These pictures are provided below with a conclusion:

Comments made by Dag, Kurgan and Grainne from the article which detailed the region swaps, and which regions which would be swapped. Along with many others involved in the current discussion.

From this evidence, I can conclude without a shadow of a doubt that the two of most vocal anti-Ire/UK deal Daghdha and Viktor (plus the lovely Grainne) suffer from AMNESIA!

How else could anyone comment on an article which John Gormley describes as "very informative", their friends comment on the article with all the details and still have to cause a sh*tstorm because they dont remember it?
Unless they don't talk to their friends either! 😮

Was all that needed?
There was legitimate criticisms of the deal which was made, but yet again, the antics of the few who play the reactionary opposition role to any ICA-affiliated government are suffocating any reasonable opposition - you are not helping anyone.

Go sit in the corner and think about what you have done. And prepare to fight Sweden to a bloody end!
