[PIE] A Piece of the Action

Once again pie lovers I have returned. Like a vigilant protector of our fair metropolis, I descend upon the monotony of the everyday media streets and look to dispense entertaining justice.

Today I want to talk to you about something that is quickly becoming dear to my heart, as if to dig deep beneath the crust of my shell to pierce the tasty filling. The new Citizen-Soldiers program introduced by Dokomo has snuck up behind me, wrapping its gentle arms around my torso to deliver a hug I cannot refuse.

Several names have been listed for the populace to decide upon for this exciting up-and-coming project, but "Swords for Samurai" has quickly taken the lead and shows no signs of relinquishing it.

I of course offered my own suggestion: "Projectile Pies", which not only seemed clever at first, but whose initials also tickled that immature section of my brain. Alas, approaching the Minister of Defense with the idea, I was quickly dispatched. Brazenly from my kneeling position, I half-lifted my gaze to beg for reconsideration. It was then that the Minister's hand rested upon my shoulder and he sternly spoke:

"Pie is meant to be eaten, not thrown."

I was humbled. Myself, a pie aficionado of startling prestige, being disciplined in my area of expertise. My head lowered, I crawled from the Ministry of Defense like so many of our military leader's opponents have from the battlefield...

Defeated.

But as my knees scuffed against the concrete sidewalk outside the ministry, a renewed sense of vigor enveloped me. I stood, not just because the general populace were staring at me, but because I knew the greater purpose of this plan was not in the name, but the implementation.

The citizens' weapon program - devised within the confines of a super-secret military bunker and introduced by Dokomo - is an effort by the Japanese government to provide its people with weaponry in time of war. The idea is to utilize the general populace of eJapan as a supplementary source of strengthened damage output, alongside the nation's illustrious Imperial Forces and the political parties' personal guards.

Any eJapanese citzen ranked lower than Field Marshal, with a strength rating above 3, and prior fighting experience for our country's efforts...is eligible for this project during a time of war. Increasing the damage of our people allows us to make a greater impact on the battlefield and more easily reach our offensive goals.

The simple introduction of Q1 weapons into the hands of any combatant greatly improves their attack score. An attacker alone without a weapon, has their fighting prowess greatly reduced.

In the example below, the combatant uses no weapons. For the sake of confidentiality, we've masked the identity of the individual.

The fighter above - who shall remain anonymous - has had their attacks greatly diminished. At Strength 11 and General rank, without a weapon they only hit in the 37-45 range. If the forementioned soldier had used a Q1 weapon instead, according to battle calculator estimates, their damage would likely range around 110.

In pie terms, the use of no weapon on the battlefield is akin to throwing an empty pie tin at the enemy. It lacks substance. However, if containing the tasty filling of firepower, the impact is substantially greater.

A citizen on the other hand, may not have a strength rating or rank of that level, so their damage will be lower. For example, in the rough estimates below, we'll do the math based upon a strength 5 citizen of the Sergeant rank.

You may use one of the Battle Calculators at the bottom of this eRepublik damage formula wiki page to experiment for yourself.

Rank: Sergeant
Strength: 5
Wellness: 100

No weapon: 14

Q1 Weapon: 34

As you can see, with a Q1 weapon, the damage is over double that of the output done without it. The results here may not seem drastic at first glance, but added up over five attacks, the numbers become more substantial.

No weapon: 14 x 5 attacks = 70 damage.

Q1 weapon: 34 x 5 attacks = 170 damage.

Having seen the combined total of the 5 attacks, its plainly obvious the beneficial gain of using a Q1 weapon than not using it.

But of course the lingering question you have for me at the back of the skeptical side of your brain is this: "Kaige, its just one person with a little damage lost. Why would that matter?"

Shame on you reader. As a citizen of this great e-nation, you are not alone. There are many of you wonderful and essential living resources at our disposal. The definitive might of the project at hand is the sum total of every well-equipped member of society.

A hundred of the above citizens at 70 damage each will only net you 7000 damage. However, equipped with a Q1 weapon in each fight, those citizens now attacking for roughly 170 damage each...will add 17000 damage to the battlefield. This is an increase of 10000 damage.

The other beautiful aspect of this plan are the rewards reaped after the battle. Like a baker who toils endlessly in the kitchen to provide the most delicious pastries, our citizens who fought in the government-funded program will develop impressive results. Just as greater ingredients make a better pie - greater damage in combat yields greater experience, leading to faster rankings and citizen levels.

Another upside is the activity in itself. Citizens who regularly come to the government for arms to represent their country, may find themselves more interested in the country's direction. I'm sure you politicians are paying attention now.

Of course, any citizen is also welcome to join the Japanese Imperial Forces. As a member of the JIF, you will be assigned to a branch of the military, and a unit. You may receive weapons regularly even at times of no war, and issued moving tickets for battles that require deployment.

I myself am a member of the Navy branch, stationed upon the JINS Konohazuku, pictured below.

If you look closely enough, you can actually see Sigrun Makinen at the helm. Make sure to salute our captain properly, soldier.

In the end, the messy conflict of war means nothing if you don't participate. It is understandable to fight, and just as acceptable to protest against it...but to stand by and do nothing is a shame in itself.

Dismissed.
