[MoE] Re-published Guide to the IRC & Forums

Day 2,176, 11:06 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by eUK Home Office

Hello everyone,

IRC is a big part of communication on eRepublik and makes the game a bit more bearable to play. But not all players, especially new, do not know how to use the IRC. However, this guide will show you, step by step, how to connect and use the IRC.

Note: This guide is actually 4 joined together, so if you are finding is hard to read or follow, then you can find the orginal guides, which have been split up into 4 and are better formatted, here.

Connecting to The IRC Client

To connect to the IRC you need to use a client. To connect to the client, simply go to: http://client00.chat.mibbit.com/.

You should be taken to page which looks like the one below.

You have now successfully connected to IRC Client.

Connecting To An IRC Channel

To connect to an IRC channel you will need to select the server the channel is located on. Most channels in the eUK use the Rizon server. However if the Rizon server did not work for you, ask the channel owner what server the channel is located on.

To select the server, click on the drop down box located next to “Connect:”. By default it will say “Mibbit [webirc]”.

On the drop down list, scroll down until you find the “Rizon” server. If the channel is not on the Rizon server, select the appropriate server you need from the list.

(Tip: The list is in alphabetical order making it easier to find servers.)

Now you need to enter your nickname that you will be known as in the channels you connect to. You can use your eRepublik name, however you cannot use spaces so instead use underscores (these: _ ).

Enter your name in the box next to “Nick:”.

Next you need to enter the name of the channel(s) you would like to connect to.

(Tip: When entering multiple channels, use a comma to separate them.)

Finally, click the “Connect” button and you will be connected to the channels you have entered.

Tip: The channels you have connected to will be shown as tabs above the channel page.

Registering A Mibbit Account And Your Nickname

Registering A Mibbit Account

What is a Mibbit Account?

A Mibbit account allows you to do many things;

- Change the colours and fonts of your client

- Store chat logs

- Save channels

Creating your account

To create your Mibbit account, click on the “Create an Account” link at the top right of the page.

A form should pop up in the center of your web browser. You need to enter a username, a password and your email address into the form and then hit the “Signup” button when you are done.

(Tip: If you are on a shared computer, I recommend unchecking the “Keep me logged in” option.)

You have now created your Mibbit account. Be sure to remember your username and password to log in.

Part 2 – Registering Your Nickname

Why do I need to register my nickname?

Registering your nickname allows you to create your own IRC channels and get certain access types like “Voice”.

Registering your nickname

First, you will need to go to a channel or the server page on the server you would like to register your nickname. I will be registering my nickname on the Rizon server in this guide.

(Tip: I recommend using the server page when registering your nickname as you will be typing sensitive information. However, no one in a channel will be able to see what you are typing as long as it starts with a forward slash.)

In the chat bar, you need to type the command;

/ns register [Password] [Your Email]

(Tip: Your email and password do not need to be the same as your Mibbit account.)

Once you have entered this command, a passcode will be sent to your email address. When you have the passcode type the command;

/ns confirm

Providing that the passcode was correct, you have now registered your nickname. Although, each time you connect to the server you will need to identify yourself. You can do this by typing in the command;

/ns identify [Your Password]

Your Mibbit Account

There are 5 options for your Mibbit account; “Account”, “Prefs”, “Profile”, “Channels” and “Logs”.

Account

Click the “Account” button out of the options.

You should see a page like the one below.

My Details

The “My Details” section shows your email address for your account. You can also change it here if you want to.

Change Password

The “Change Password” section allows you to change your password. To change your password, enter your new password into the “Password” box and then write your new password again in the “Password (confirm)” box.

Then click the “Change my password” button to change it.

My IRC Accounts

The “My IRC accounts” option allows you to add your registered IRC nicknames/account to your profile. This allows you to identify yourself without using the “/ns idenify” command.

To add an IRC account, click the “Add new entry” button.

After clicking the “Add new entry” button, a form should appear.

Under “Server” write the address of the server your nickname you want to add is registered on. The address will be;

(servername).mibbit.org

The Rizon server address is “rizon.mibbit.org”.

Under “Nick” write the nickname of your account you registered. For example, my registered nick is “SuperLlama”.

Now you need to enter the password for your IRC account. Enter it into the “Pass” box.

Leave the last two options (“Auth Method” and “Charset”) as they are, you should not need to change them.

Click the “Save changes” button, to save your IRC account.

Your IRC account should now be saved to your Mibbit account. Click the “Connect now” button to connect to your IRC account.

Prefs

Click the “Prefs” button out of the options.

There are many many options under Prefs which I will allow you to explore on your own. However there are 2 options I would recommend you turn on.

On your “Prefs” page find the heading “Logging”.

Then check the “Save PMs to logs” and “Save Channels to logs” options.

Profile

Click the “Profile” button out of the options.

The profile page allows you to add some basic information about yourself. This is completely optional.

(Tip: Your profile is available for anyone to see.)

Channels

Click the “Channels” button out of the options.

The channels page allows you to save channels you regularly use to your Mibbit account. To add a channels, click the “Add new entry” button.

Once you have clicked the button, a row should appear like the one below.

First you need to enter the server address in which the channels are located on. The address will be;

(servername).mibbit.org

The Rizon server address is “rizon.mibbit.org”. Next you need to enter the channel names you want to add. You can add multiple channels by separating them with a comma.

If you want to connect to these channels as soon as you log into Mibbit, then keep “Auto Connect” checked. If not you will need to press the “Connect now” button to connect to the channels.

Logs

Click the “Logs” button out of the options.

if you checked the options to save logs, this is where the logs will be saved to for viewing. The page is easy to navigate through and use therefore I will not show you how to use it. However it should look like this.

Hopefully now we will see more players connecting to the IRC.

Guide to the Forums

Once the most important pieces of communication for the country holding Congress and government discussions, the eUK forums are still used by many members of this countries community. The Ministry of Education is bringing you the guide to… the eUK forums so you can learn how to sign up and use these forums regularly.

Signing Up

You can get onto the eUK forums through this link. In the future, you can always type erepublik.co.uk or forums.erepublik.co.uk. To sign up, click “register” on the navigation bar at the top. The button you need to click is shown below if you cannot find it. Read the registration agreement(or not) and accept them, then fill in the form. Activate your account through the email sent, and you're on your way...

The “register” button, circled red.

The Main Areas of the Forum

I guess you could see the main areas after you have signed up, but we shall go through them anyway. Forum & IRC Info contains announcements and suggestions for the forum and the #euk IRC channel. General eRepublik is for the discussions about the game military invasions, to the latest competitions and even announcements from our country president(even though some do not do this anymore). In the Party Forums section, you can apply to see your eRepublik parties forum, as most big eUK parties have their own sub-forum. You should apply as soon as possible so you can join in your parties discussions. The Off-Topic area is for worshippers of Boblo, the Dental Corps and football hooligans to discuss the goings-on in real life but don’t be scared of joining in.

Two of the main areas of the forums.

Of course you can also edit your profile, send messages and do whatever is usual on the average forum.

Posting and Replying to Topics

It’s not a forum if you cannot reply to topics, and you can’t reply to topics if people cannot create them. Creating your own topics is really simple, first go to the area where you want to create the topic(such as “public discussions”). Above and below the list of topics in that area will be a blue button which says “New Topic”. Type away. I said it was simple.

Create your own topic about anything…

When a topic has been created people are able to reply to it. You can reply by clicking the reply button at the top and bottom of the topic. You are also able to quote other posts by clicking the quote button on each post. If you are in a rush, there is a quick reply box at the bottom of the topic. Have fun as you can use smileys and bb code in your posts.

We have covered the absolute basics of using the eUK forums, if you want to know more sign up now and get exploring. The forums have many different discussions, and I’m sure you will be able to find one which is exciting or interesting. Go now!

Thanks for reading,
