[Karrde] What This Country Needs

Day 1,564, 07:32 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Talon Karrde
This will be the second part of my electoral manifesto. If you haven’t yet had chance to read my announcement article (with added policy,) please click this link.

Domestic Affairs

To examine the state of our country now is to see a decadent society, bereft of friendship, hostile to new ideas and new players, clinging to long irrelevant systems and programs in an effort to resist changes to an ever changing game. This simply cannot continue.

In analysing how we have arrived at this point, I see the rise of our second largest party, UKPP, I see the MU feed of my own unit, The Resistance, and I see the conversations I have every day with many people from all walks of life in our country. We are a country that is hurting. To look at our situation and blame Canada, Ireland and France for our problems would be naïve at best, and criminally negligent of any candidate running for high office. We are a part of a broken and fractured community, we’re leaking top hitters and political prospects to other countries, and we’re further than ever from uniting against our common foes; the political infighting that has forever plagued our country is still very much at the fore.

All of this is at the forefront of my thinking in laying out this manifesto. My policies seek to attack these problems head on, to actively build and rebuild our community from the ground up; to create a welcoming, friendly community that everyone can enjoy.

Things are not all doom and gloom, though; I thoroughly enjoy my time playing Erepublik, otherwise I simply would not be here. I have some fantastic friends that keep me playing, men and women of passion that do want the best for this country. My biggest task as President will be in getting all these diverse groups pulling in the same direction.

To that end, then, here are my intended policies in these areas. These policies will be enacted by myself, my Minister of Home affairs, and by my Minister of Finance.

From the Ground Up

Entitled ‘From the Ground Up,’ my major policy in this area revolves around building up new players. We must, we simply must create a good environment for our new players, complete with good, useful and friendly advice, common sense, financial advice and more. We need to give them everything they need to get the best possible start in the game, and crucially, to enjoy themselves. By no means will we convince new players to remain in the game unless they enjoy it; and by no means will we prosper as a nation and as a community without a steady influx of new players.

To achieve this, the MoHA will be running a military unit. As you may or may not know, every player that enters the game is given a mission to join a military unit, and is then given a choice between five or so units that they could join, picking one and going forward with them. The MoHA will be given one of these units, which will be renamed to ‘NEW PLAYERS JOIN HERE,’ with a description informing players that it is the government’s official unit for new players, intended to give them the best start possible. I will also ticket the admins to ask them to keep this MU as one of the options presented to new players, so that we can reach the largest possible number of new players joining our country.

The Minister of Home Affairs will act as the commander for this unit, and will do the following within it:

-Shout often on the MU feed with useful information, including articles, guides, battle info and news

-Message players that join the MU on a particular day, every day, welcoming them to the game and to the MU, being friendly, useful and helpful

-Track which players are active on the MU feed and are fighting regularly- and donate them food

-Answer any questions that are asked or come up and mentor players that need it, in conjunction with the MoHA team

-Advertise the UK Official Military to players that outgrow the unit and would like supplies

-Advertise the forums and IRC to graduates of the MU (though do not push them to brand new players- let them get their footing first.)

-Run competitions and games where appropriate within the MU feed

The Ministry of Home Affairs will also be responsible for improving and fixing our new player guides, so that they are up to date, concise, and helpful to new players. To do this they will consult with new players to see how easy they are to understand. In the same vein of thought, new players get a welcome message from the President upon joining the game. I would make sure this message was friendly, helpful, free of mistakes, and pointed the players to the MU where they could get more information.

Red vs Blue

Here’s something new. To promote activity and fun in the community, I’ll be creating two teams- the red team and the blue team. These teams will begin with just a single person, the team leader. These people must do everything in their power to recruit people to their team, and to beat the opposing team. They’ll be competing in everything- number of members, damage stats, media presence, number of friends, number of new players recruited to eRepublik, performance in forum games, and a lot more. These teams will be completely separate to parties, to the military, and will not just be based on the forums and IRC- though when they get enough members (10) they can get a private forum for themselves too, and can create and manage an IRC channel.

Why will people want to take part? For one, it’ll be fun. Beating the opposition always feels good, and there will be a lot less pressure involved with this that with the military or in politics, for example- so backstabbing, deal making and the like are encouraged!

To sweeten the deal, every day in my announcement I’ll be revealing which team is currently winning; and that team will gain some bonuses from the government, in the form of food and weapons! So there’s real incentive to be involved in a team, and active in its activities.

The leaders have total autonomy to run their teams however they like- they can be as open or mysterious as they like- they don’t even have to reveal their identity to the public, can operate in secret if they wish. The possibilities are endless!

Here’s something I’m excited about too- these institutions will outlast my CP term. One of the big problems we’ve had in the past is that, when a new president is elected, old schemes and work are thrown out of the window and new schemes are started. Red vs Blue will carry on regardless, with the leaders having total control over their team. While I’m CP I will make sure they’re active, and I’d like future CPs to continue to make sure the leaders stay active too- or pass on power to new leaders.

The Red and Blue teams will have some specific challenges through the month too, including some cheeky behind the scenes cloak and dagger tomfoolery and competition. More on that from the MoHA later!

The final aspect of the MoHA’s job this month will be in organising the community to recruit new players to our country. The MoHA won’t be responsible for doing the actual recruiting themselves, but rather for facilitating this for the community- which will be responsible for doing the recruiting itself. It’s a hard slog, it’s difficult, but everyone is more or less agreed that to be a strong country going forward we need to increase our numbers. My proposals for the MoHA will help us to keep new players that join, and an open, honest community recruitment will help us to get those new players to be able to keep them.

The MoHA will be hiring staff to help with messaging, donating, mentoring, planning and the like, and to develop newer players to be in a position to take over this or another ministry down the line. The MoHA will also have a wide berth to use their own initiative and ideas.

Finance

The final part of my domestics manifesto revolves around our finances. These are extremely limited due to the congress situation so all I have to say here, is that we’re going to look after our money and what we do have to help new players. This’ll be explained a lot more in my next manifesto, on the military.
