[CP] Foreign Affairs and Poll (5 Gold Giveaway)

Some of you may be thinking “Why aren’t we in an alliance yet?” Well its not exactly a simple situation.
Okay, let’s start by taking a nice look at our options, shall we?
CTRL: This alliance, as we can see, is HORRIBLY unstable at the moment. Poland and the USA are constantly at odds, and the American CP has offended the Brazilians. With the Hungary-USA war, CTRL is at a crucial juncture. Poland has refused an MPP with the USA and, by default, is supporting Hungary. If Poland continues to support Hungary, then CTRL seems unlikely to survive at this point. Also, the SG of CTRL has stepped down and the vote to expel Poland has failed. Because of its problems, I am very reluctant to attempt to join.
Asgard: All Asgard is, is Sweden and Finland. It is an alliance focused mainly on the Baltic region and the North in general. It is currently engaged in a war with the ABC countries, which are supported by Poland. This would be a good alliance for making a couple friends, but unless it expands greatly, it does not offer much strategic value to Canada.
CoT: This is an intriguing option. None of the nations are really anywhere close to us... Currently, they have sided with ex-ONE nations to take down our EDEN friends for the moment and expelled them from Asia. Admittedly they are quite strong, especially when they team up with ex-ONE nations. Yet, they don’t have much geopolitical value to us. The closest members are Mexico and Japan. Also, the fact that they are allied with the likes of Serbia and other ONE nations, doesn’t really bode very well for our current allies and relations with the USA, if we wish to keep those allies.
EDEN: This is the home of our current allies and friends. Even America is still holds mainly Pro-EDEN and ex-Terra treaties. We have been long associated with this alliance, as we were one of the first members to join in 2009 and only left when we decided to fully commit to Terra. With Terra gone, we are just an independent Pro-EDEN nation. However, Canada cannot join EDEN at the moment. Why? We left on May 30th. There is a 6 month moratorium on re-admission. Therefore we cannot apply to join until December 1st.
Out of all of these, we are currently on the path toward EDEN. Last sunday, India planned to propose us as a member of the Garden of EDEN alliance. This would be the stepping stone on the path to full membership. However, the EDEN Summit on Sunday was canceled due to the immense amount of attention that they needed to devote to its various battles. India will be proposing us as an GEA member during the next EDEN summit. We will eagerly await the response of EDEN’s members. If we are approved, we will have to make our final decisions. There will be discussion, the charter will be sent to Congress for approval and a referendum may be held.
There are obvious problems with EDEN though. Things are not looking too good for them right now. In fact, they are getting trounced by Cot/ex-ONE and currently having internal problems, like their dispute with Turkey. If we join an alliance, it should have some strategic significance, not just friendship. That is what makes this decision difficult. I will be keeping an eye on the situation. I don’t want to throw Canada into an alliance which is experiencing a downturn, and could remain in that position for a long time, without true support from the people. EDEN tries to help every nation it can, but it can only do so much.
I saw a comment about how we should just stick with the USA. Well, I like the USA. I am always very interested in what they do. I will be especially interested in seeing what they do if CTRL truly does fall apart. Having the USA there as a strong ally is a very good thing. It wards off invasion and we have, not only a strong leader, but a strong friend. The USA is a country we should try to work with. Like it or not, they’ve always been there, looming over us as a constant presence, for better or worse. Right now, although they are in CTRL, their MPP’s indicate that they are in favor of EDEN and Terra nations. So if you want to keep being on the side of the USA, we should likely keep on our Pro-EDEN path.
The opinions of the government and the presidency can change from month to month with every election. When we pick an alliance, we commit to it for MUCH longer than just one month. Currently, we are on the path to EDEN. With that said, I want you to read this article about EDEN and what it stands for.
If you think allies are more important than bonuses, and friendship and cooperation is more important than regions, then EDEN is right for you.
If the public thinks that Canada should put itself above others and regions are more important than helping traditional friends, then we seriously need to re-evaluate our position.
Now, I have a proposition for you. I need you to fill out this survey. I want your opinion. Early in this administration, we held a poll and the people largely supported EDEN. Now, with the world’s political and military climate changing even further, I want to see if your opinion has changed. Canada has recently been wiped for supporting its friends. Do you stand steadfast in your support of EDEN? Should we look for a fresh change of scenery? Should we be a good little brother and follow the US?
I want to see where the public stands. This is just a non-binding poll to gauge public opinion.

We have to make alliances with some one and fast. At least get us some help to kick poland out. We can have all the MPPs in the world, but MPPS won't help out nation at this time. We need foriegn MUs to put our RWs as their priority from time to time. We may join EDEN in December, but we need their help NOW
I selected EDEN for question #3; while I don't suggest we do anything and everything the US does (one of the options), I do prefer a return to close relations with them without compromising our current allies and there wasn't really an option to vote for that.
Done. I'm eager to find out Canada's current perspective on EDEN; it should be an interesting one. Even though I favour pure strategy, it must be noted that almost all of the countries that switched sides in the crucial moments like this paid for it in the long run.I don't consider turning against our allies a smart move, even if it benefits us for a few months.
The game is slow paced when it comes to forging alliances, though they do tend to fall apart rather quickly.
Glad to have someone as CP who can direct our long term vision. Not easy work but i can see you're giving iy your best, epd.
Now off to do that poll...tough choices.
Something needs to be done quick.
I'm pretty sure we made our choice when we NE'd Spain. I would not be second guessing now.

IMO, without regions we have nothing; you may have all the brotherhood and friendship in the world, but without something to fight for and defending, you have nothing. We are not a bunch of mercenaries.

@ Sebastian Mihail Well as seen by the Polish wiping of Canada, brotherhood and friendship (i.e. help) would have been nice. I see you are sorta young, but go back a few years Eden came in and helped kick out Phoenix. Watching Eden EMC hit the wall in the last minute was an awesone display. No friends = no regions.

it asks in 4 questions what could be resolved with one. "Do you prefer to role-play or are you strictly into game mechanics?" The rest of it is a waste of time. I'd like to see the executive actually lead for once instead of having to ask everyone's opinion all the time. If we wanted a committee we'd ask for one.

"no middle" grounds i like the unbelievably insistent push in the survey and the very obvious slanted perspective in the questions. i honestly don't disagree with you but that felt like it was supposed to be a guilt trip
Well i'm new here (started yesterday) but according what U wrote i will choose EDEN 😉
When I stopped playing eRepublik a couple years ago I remember fondly the EDEN alliance that Canada held strong to, and even more so the closely bonded friendship and alliance with the United States (in which we even considered it a Bromance). Those were good days for eCanada.
I voted current friendships and eden.
But I still think that our regions are very important. I don't like getting wiped. And bonuses would be lovely.
Perhaps we should redefine friendship as that which is mutually beneficial strategically. Otherwise, me may as well sign another MPP with Indonesia when our good buddy TemujinBC becomes CP there again.
Keeping friends in a war game that don't benefit our security and playability/fun of eRep would be espousing a policy like "nationally funded dental plans" in a game that has little to do with teeth even though many players fret over non-existent cavities.
Join Asgard and help build the alliance it has to start somewhere
I've asked Asgard and had discussions with Sweden, but sadly they aren't in any hurry to expand.
Send Rylde back to Sweden to kick their butts in gear.

We should send an esteemed emissary familiar with their nations so that we can foster better relations with Asgard and facilitate their growth as a fledgling alliance.
My vote goes for EDEN and for brotherhood.
Many countries fighting as one unit can only lead too glory for everyone accept those who are not members of EDEN ofc.
Rushing in to an alliance just make "friends" must the worst we can do because a brotherhood isn't something you just rush in too, it take time and effort too built.
If we must wait too become members of EDEN we will wait and when time is right we will join EDEN with our heads held high.
Yes, the indonesian MPP wasn't that entirely helpful. Or did we get help for ecan battles? I'm sure it canceled a lot of MPPs that we could of had with other countries.
I don´t think having allot of MPP´s is the best way to get "friends" too help in times of need.
I believe we should have MPP´s with countries that we good relations with or in some way have a history with.
Don´t just MPP with every country on the map just because we are in need of fighting friends, thats just pathetic and short term thinking.
