[CP] Asgard Membership and my EO on Congress
Homer J Simpson
Just to fill in the background detail for those who aren't fully aware:
Months ago eCanada was floundering around. Our long term alliance, EDEN, was on life support and the decision was made to leave it. Debate occured over time as to what direction we should take, stay neutral, join CoT, join Asgard or even wait and see what would become of EDEN.
Rylde was then elected after running on a platform of holding a national referendum to choose our alliance. These were the results
The three options given in the referendum were:
1- CoT
2- Asgard
3- Remain neutral
#3 basically being the continue as we are, wait and see option
As you can see, the clear majority was for joining Asgard and that is what we did. We were accepted as a trial member of the alliance by Finland and Sweden. That trial finishes on the 15th of this month at which time Finland and Sweden will vote to approve us as a permanent member.
This brings us to an executive order I issued yesterday on the eCan forums for congress to carry over from last month. My reason for this is such, a clause in the Asgard treaty, which was written prior to the new allaince module in game, states that a trial member's congress must vote to approve them joining as a permanent member. Obviously we don't currently have a congress and won't have one on the 15th which throws a spanner in the works.
Although I could have pushed the point and just made the call myself I decided that it would be better to have the approval of the Canadian public. After weighing up the options I concluded the most efficient way to do this, in the time span we have, was to ask the elected congressmen from last month to carry on their roles on the forum. This allows debate by a cross section of the Canadian community that was elected by the community to represent them.
I welcome discussion and debate in the public forum through this article as well as those congressmen who have agreed to continue using the forum. I direct those congressmen to take note of the public view as well as their own when forming their opinion and, at a date closer to the 15th, I will post the proposal for them to vote on.

Can the next CP issue an EO to dissolve Congress, if none are elected again this month? (out of curiosity)
The EO was a practical move to get eCanada into/voting on Asgard. Perhaps there are other things they can do on fhe forum that can be of use.
ah, found the answer to what I was getting at:
"The President has the right to;
iii) veto any motion passed by Congress that falls outside in-game mechanics within 7 days of approved legislation. "
Anything done by outside-of-mechanics Congress cannot be vetoed by later CPs. Plus, Asgard has approved our use of a 'ghost' Congress to vote on Asgard membership.
It would appear all the bases have been covered. A good thing, because Alliance politics can be messy if relations sour.

EDEN's been on "life support" for... a year now?

The quicker EDEN dissolves the quicker the world can be done with the CoTTWO crap and actually have two competitive alliances
1) Who would be in the "new EDEN"?
2) Why give CoTWO a unified enemy to fight, when this would prolong their eventual deadlock when they come to loggerheads due to their respective ambitions?
Good call Homer.
Consider revoting for joining ASGARD or is that pretty much the direction the ships sailing?
Either way, I'm not for it 😛
What was wrong with Eden?
EDEN's pretty much dead.
And how's Asgard doing?
Asgard is alive and well
We must have different definitions of well, Homer, because I don't believe you're one for political doublespeak (Quick test: this wipe isn't just a setback, is it? 😛). I mean seriously, how well is it doing if we're expecting it to be welcoming in a country that's completely wiped within the next week?
Anyways, for this untrained and un-involved eye EDEN doesn't seem to be particularly more dead than Asgard.
There's just one thing left to do then.
Make sure we have a f*cking congress this month.
~_^
I thought Indonesia had a Congress. Or is there some other "we" you're referring to?
We are all Indonesians
Oh, well problem solved then. Homer, you can revoke your EO. The Indo's have us covered.
EO is democratic, but not necessary smart. Leaving EDEN was a major error. As dead as It is EDEN can provide a lot more protection. Asgard is fresh, is cool, but it is suffering by damage anaemia. Now we are where we are and we must fight smart and follow orders. After liberation we will have time and energy to change things.
Now I must say that I'm not always good at figuring out trends, but is Asgard really cool?
It's icy!

Good decision, Mt President. o7
Might be wiser to focus on the neighbours to the south and finding military help close by.
^ Agreed ^
Maybe even absorb other countries from the failing EDEN 🙂
What's ASGARDS goal anyway? to protect the Arctic?
Haven't you heard, Xvidian ~ polar bears are facing extinction.
Neighbours to the south are haing a hard enough time figuring out what they want for themselves. It'd be nice if eCan could cozy up to them yet their politics and foreign affairs may be too spastic for a Bro-cuddle.
Hmm, I've been for neighbor bromance from day 1. Do we have any plan for ex-EDEN countries when that disbanding is announced?
They could be useful ^ ^
Closing thing to what you are describing would currently be found in the Valkyrie Pact:
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-mofa-valkyrie-pact-2223470/1/20
It formally brings Croatia closer to Asgard. Who knows, maybe other EDEN nations will follow suit.
*Closest thing
(I used to like deleting comments and reposting the edited version)
I loved doing that! And then re-reposting when I realised I still made a mistake.
Anyways, as to all this waffling, here down south, in EDEN and pretty much everywhere else, I think it speaks to a deeply worrying issue that eRep's going to have to address or face extinction: players are bored as hell!
It used to be enough to fight for your country and your allies. That was enough of a purpose to click your mouse a couple dozen times a day (remember the pre-one click kill day? My finger sure does). Then it turned out not to be enough. People got tired of fighting the same old battles between the same old countries and were willing to take the risk that a new alliance would be enough to shake things up. We've actually seen this situation before and yes, for a while it did breath some life into the game, I think.
But this time? I don't know think it's going to work. If anything the fact that we might not be fighting for our traditional allies might hurt us. Now it's a pointless never ending battles for countries and people we barely even now. Expect a lot more, "what's the point?"s and more and more people quitting when they realise that there is no point to this game and nothing worth aiming for.
