[CP] Asgard Membership and my EO on Congress

Day 1,935, 14:58 Published in Canada Canada by Homer J Simpson

Just to fill in the background detail for those who aren't fully aware:

Months ago eCanada was floundering around. Our long term alliance, EDEN, was on life support and the decision was made to leave it. Debate occured over time as to what direction we should take, stay neutral, join CoT, join Asgard or even wait and see what would become of EDEN.

Rylde was then elected after running on a platform of holding a national referendum to choose our alliance. These were the results

The three options given in the referendum were:
1- CoT
2- Asgard
3- Remain neutral

#3 basically being the continue as we are, wait and see option

As you can see, the clear majority was for joining Asgard and that is what we did. We were accepted as a trial member of the alliance by Finland and Sweden. That trial finishes on the 15th of this month at which time Finland and Sweden will vote to approve us as a permanent member.

This brings us to an executive order I issued yesterday on the eCan forums for congress to carry over from last month. My reason for this is such, a clause in the Asgard treaty, which was written prior to the new allaince module in game, states that a trial member's congress must vote to approve them joining as a permanent member. Obviously we don't currently have a congress and won't have one on the 15th which throws a spanner in the works.

Although I could have pushed the point and just made the call myself I decided that it would be better to have the approval of the Canadian public. After weighing up the options I concluded the most efficient way to do this, in the time span we have, was to ask the elected congressmen from last month to carry on their roles on the forum. This allows debate by a cross section of the Canadian community that was elected by the community to represent them.

I welcome discussion and debate in the public forum through this article as well as those congressmen who have agreed to continue using the forum. I direct those congressmen to take note of the public view as well as their own when forming their opinion and, at a date closer to the 15th, I will post the proposal for them to vote on.
