Captains of Industry was founded just over a year ago, several days after Military Units first entered the game. HOPE made the original debut of the MU in eCanada with its founder and all-around good guy Lavis Knight, who wanted to bring military supply to all citizens through open requests via the media. Captains of Industry followed as the second MU to establish itself in eCanada, through its founder Addy Lawrence, who sought to enable the principles of the Ministry of Opportunity in the military machine of eCanada.

Currently, the Captains of Industry face a game that was much different than when the MU was established. We aimed to promote self-supply and reduce the need for government funding among our members. Self-sufficiency and wealth building is now a key strategy of gameplay in eRepublik, and government funding has become a staple among all MUs as taxes benefit from Platobot infusions into the market. The principles of military supply and management are seriously different from a year ago.

The New World keeps on changing, and adapting along with eRep's (d)evolution is a must.

Despite these changes, CoI has managed to stay afloat despite recent turbulence in our leadership, the economy, and eCanada’s stability. Our supply system is well-established, obtaining full production bonuses, and our government funding has been well invested in infrastructure that will carry us forward despite funding cuts. Perhaps this resilience is part of the reason why in the last week, CoI managed to secure the #4 spot in MU rankings, and than manage to edge in to #3 spot, despite half the size of our membership compared to the main contenders out there.

At the moment, we run two slavepits (for food and for tanks), modeled after the methods inspired by the Crimson Order. Those who work daily in the pits get 10xQ6 Tanks, and 650 Health in Q5 food per day.

Recently, we also launched a program called ‘Daily Order Rewards.’ We track those who complete the DO each day (get 25+ kills) and reward them with a bonus 6 Q5 tanks four times a week. All tanks are produced in our own companies and the program is self-sustaining, without need for outside funding. Soon we also hope to launch a Townhall Upgrade program modeled on Chochi’s method, as explained to me by Katey Valentine (should be good for our new members).

While IL features its timed strikes, CoI has been running its own Friday Night Fights as a bit of a challenge for members that want to lay down some damage to win a prize or just show off their bazooka stockpile. 30 Q5s are awarded for top fighter, 20 for second place, and 3rd spot is reserved for Donna Rush (maybe a win next week, eh Donna?). The Friday Night Fights are run by Wilhem Klink and supplied from his own companies.

We’re welcoming new members willing to sport our factory frame or benefit from our slavepit production.

The Captains of Industry is now looking to grow. We’ve secured a good spot in the ranks, built a strong supply base that makes us less dependent on funding, and are looking at ways to help support developing members. The next big push is to gather some new talent and help out new players towards self-sufficiency and stat building.

Our resident curmudgeon and 2nd Commander, Goran Thrax, recently provided an assessment about CoI’s set-up:
We provide a supply value equal to all the other MUs in Canada but for a fraction of the cost. Some MUs are currently running a deficit which in this time of funding cuts, is simply unsustainable. Many MUs are buying weapons off the market, paying over 25 CAD for each weapon. We manufacture our own Q6's for less than 8 CAD each. Our Q5 weapons cost even less at 6.5 CAD. Some MUs don't feed their members, but thankfully our food costs are so low that I don't see why we would ever stop supplying health. I manufacture 75% of our food, for only 0.18 CAD each and Dereck makes the rest through bi-weekly production runs. So here we are still turning a profit after the funding cut, still able to supply everyone and have room to grow. Our new DO Rewards program run by Plugson is supplied entirely in-house with our Q5 weapons without a bit hit to our bottom line. In short we have plenty of room to grow even without a funding increase, more members will only make us more efficient!

As you can see, we’re in for the long haul and are set up for it. Should we bring in some new members, Goran Thrax has assured us it will only help increase our supply, not reduce it. So, if you’re looking for a stable group that can weather funding cuts and eCanada’s typical turmoil, then you may want to consider joining an MU with a long history and strong dedication to playing the game both with an easy-going attitude and with a competitive edge for efficiency. Plus, our Regiment Captains, Funky Hum24n & komplicirani, do their best to keep our Daily Order set to priority battles from the Ministry of Defence, so we try to have active DOs on at most times of the day.

Punctum Archimedis, my @$$! Balancing MU supply is killer on my hernia. Just doing my part to carry the load.
