Ireland, Eden and the end of the ALA.

Eden

Eden is certainly going through turbulent times at the minute, Croatia has fallen foul of blocks after taking several Austrian regions. There has been a lot of sparring between Croatia and Slovenia, and thanks to a German block Slovenia were able to seize the initiative.

The Polish empire has since seen a resurgence in France, as they have taken hold of several previously Spanish regions. There is still a possible route for Slovenia, with it's MPP's to take which could see it eat into Polish occupied regions, but one quick region swap with Spain could cut Poland off from Slovenian MPP's. Primarily, Slovenia will be focusing on getting it's regions back and fighting off Croatia.

The reason Poland has taken hold of a large strip of regions across France could simply be because Spains military power is less than that of Poland. During the week several French and German regions were liberated from Spanish control. Recently;

Loire Valley
Limousin
Alsace
Baden Wurttemberg
Lower Saxony and Bremen

With these regions back under the control of their rightful owners, things are definately starting to look up for Phoenix is Europe.

More interestingly, American President PigInZen has requested that the US Congress vote to remove the USA from Eden. An obvious basketball fan, PigInZen explains why in this article. I personally was not expecting the USA to make the move, withdrawing themselves purely to the Brolliance. If they are not working with Eden, what will be their common goal?

Invading Mexico is a theme that often pops up in the USA, but in reality it will likely be that they concern themselves with defending Karnataka. Although Congress still have the deciding vote on the issue, as they would in this country - if they decide to remain in the alliance how will the USA be treated when their 'allies' know that the leader of the USA and a considerable amount of people in the USA do not want to be a part of Eden.

Now that this statement has been released it wouldn't surprise me if congress simply agree. Internal relations within the alliance will be bleak and, I wouldn't want to witness the vast awkwardness of the first meeting between the CP's should the US Congress decide to stay in the alliance. This doesn't mean to say that in the future, the Brolliance won't work with Eden militarily. It will be interesting to see who helps who when the other one is in need, and wether or not they heed each others calls.

Ireland

You may have read that Ireland have joined the Brolliance. In this article the Irish MoFA explains that they are on a 30 day trial membership. The implications of this move are very important for those of us in the eUK and you can read the Prime Ministers response in the Irish Media here.

UK-Irish relations hit a rough patch right about the time Northern Ireland was seized. However upon the election of Dubhthaigh on the 5th I personaly felt among with many others that there was a chance of our relations improving. I had spoken to Dubhthaigh about the subject over his presidency and many times beforehand. However President Dubhthaigh was impeached.

The prospect of Ireland joining the Brolliance has cast a gloomy shadow over future UK-Irish relations. The Brolliance, an alliance in which the USA is very much the dominant member would not be the ideal alliance for a country who want to maintain good relations with the UK to join. This is mainly because the USA is still a member of Eden (for the time being) has of course, invaded the eUK not too recently and often clash on the battlefield. As is the case with most of the Brolliance countries.

Making a decision on what to do with Ireland is always a difficult one. This is mainly because acting on the decisions of the Presidents or Dail may alienate the group of people who do not agree with the decisions those in power have made. As much as public representation is valued in Ireland there is often a lot of opposition to the decisions made by the government. None the less, we have polled Ireland in the past (revealing a lot of anti-UK thought), and NI as mentioned did harm relations. Now if Ireland are to become fully fledged membrs of the Brolliance it would be the final nail in the coffin.

ALA

The ALA was a regional Alliance in South America, it originally a part of PEACE GC, but in August 2009 seperated itself from the global community and began to expand. At its peak it contained all 10 South American Countries ingame. However recently, members began to leave one by one, until the alliance was left with only 3 members and was dissolved.

Firstly, in a joint statement Brazil and Argentina, two larger members of the alliance and both members of Phoenix declared they were leaving the alliance. They described how the amount of effort they put into the alliance and towards the smaler countries was not reflected in the level of commitment they saw in return. They went on to say,

"To all this we decided to say enough is enough: Brazil and Argentina abandon the alliance as of this moment."

Next, Chile, Peru and Paraguay decided to leave.

In the statements of these 3 countries we see hints as to what some of the causes for the split were. In General it appears that some member countries had become disillusioned with the alliance. This was however likely to do with Brazil and Argentina leaving. The Paraguayan CP says,

"ALA was intended,[to provide] the defense of Latin America from any internal or external danger. And we see with regret that this goal is difficult to achieve when there was a hint of unity, and it becomes impossible now."

This short extract suggests that there had been (at least recently) a few disagreements within the alliance. It is possible in any alliance for disagreements to occur. However, in a regional alliance where smaller members have to work with larger members who may be members of other large alliances sometimes it can be tricky to coexist. The Peruvian statement is perhaps the most dramatic, at one point saying,

"The situation is unsustainable in the ALA, currently representing only the interests of both countries masked men who decided to leave to act freely and without obstention.
ALA manipulated from above looks helpless as they continue to control from Brazil and Argentina. Under these conditions it is unthinkable to continue in that partnership."

The issue here it may seem is that between smaller countries and the larger countries there was often a conflict of interest. Perhaps Brazil and Argentina had some influence remaining through it's friendly relationships with the ALA countries. Either way it is apparent that the Peruvian president wasn't too happy with countries leaving and the decisions the alliance had made in the
past.

The next two countries to leave were Colombia and Mexico, leaving only 3 nations in the alliance. At this point it was apparent the alliance wouldn't be around for too long. After all a regional alliance that no longer covers a region and is in fact a group of 3 (or even 5 before Mexico and Colombia left) smaller countries isn't too effective should an invasion occur.

The statement from the Mexican president offers another revealing insight into the alliance.

"It was an alliance that never worked as intended... ... always in internal conflicts, in endless debates"

Despite the apparent digreements and conflict of interests, Mexico make it clear that them leaving comes after reassessing their position in the alliance after the 3 previous countries left. Overall it seems as though the ALA had a few internal issues, and for the benefit of those involved various countries began pulling out. The one recurring theme in all of these articles is that all of the countries are sure ot make clear that they will keep good relations with each other, and continue to help each other. A de facto alliance remains in place of the ALA.

The remaining three nations signed the dissolution letter, you can read here. If, like Ron Burgundy you don't speak Spanish - google translate does.

As the members of the ALA nations are still very much friends, it is unlikely that any countries in South America will join Eden. Afterall, the idea of invading MExico is recurrent in the USA, Poland tried to PTO Peru and there is a good Braziliand and Argentinian influence to help represent Pheonix should any of the members feel they want to move into a super alliance.
