The thoughts of an observer

Day 1,369, 06:58 Published in Romania Republic of Moldova by Back2black

It's been no secret that I have decided to lay off erepublik for a while. After several months in which I've been actively involved in building relationships with other countries, I decided to focus on my work and personal life.

As much as we like to call this game "crap", we somehow never stop playing or caring. I never intended to quit, as I enjoy spending time with the people I have come to know in this game. Sometimes becoming a mere observer ca be more than enough.

We all know that governments change. We all know that you can't still be on top of the game unless you are constaltly in touch with the people ruling other countries in the game. Because, just as in real life, connections matter.

Sure, I still know the former presidents, I still know the former MoFAs, I can still ask them favours. I'm sure they would help, I've helped them numerous times in the past.

What about the new governments? Do they still have the vision we used to have in the past? Do they still have long term strategies? Probably not. The mechanics of the game have changed, making us focus on the time being, on surviving the current month.

Every president hopes to be able to go down in history as a great president. I don't doubt that each president is doing his best to have a great term. Some succeed, others don't. Some are lucky, others aren't. It's not always up to the president whether he has a great term or not, external factors can contribute greately to his plan.

This having been said, I realize that Romania isn't doing well. I realize that whomever would come and rule it at this stage, he/she wouldn't manage to make a great deal out of it. Why? Because we are in a bad position.

I wonder if any of you ever watched the Eurovision contest. No, I'm not going to talk about the quality of the music sang there, but I will talk about the votes. We have all noticed that neighbouring countries stick to eachother. The maximum number of votes go to the neighbours and friends. Always. It is in our human nature to stick to our closed ones, whether they are good or bad. Why has our attitude changed in this game?

I'd like to especially focus on Serbia. Serbia is a neighbouring country, there are many Serbs living in Romania and we, as a nation, generally like the Serbs. I think that if we were to make a general survey and ask people what they think about Serbs, we'd find out that we are very similar to them and, in RL situations, our two nations would stick together.

I think that this war between our two nations is pointless. I'm sure the Serbs don't hate us. I'm sure they don't feel a particular joy fighting against us. I've always wondered if any of the current presidents have asked their nation whether they agree with this so called war.

It would be my great pleasure, as a mere observer, to see this pointless war come to an end. We'd be so much better together than apart. Our strategies could change, we could focus on greater, long-term goals, being the power we all once were. Having the fun we all once had.

Think about it!
