The thoughts of an observer
Back2black
It's been no secret that I have decided to lay off erepublik for a while. After several months in which I've been actively involved in building relationships with other countries, I decided to focus on my work and personal life.
As much as we like to call this game "crap", we somehow never stop playing or caring. I never intended to quit, as I enjoy spending time with the people I have come to know in this game. Sometimes becoming a mere observer ca be more than enough.
We all know that governments change. We all know that you can't still be on top of the game unless you are constaltly in touch with the people ruling other countries in the game. Because, just as in real life, connections matter.
Sure, I still know the former presidents, I still know the former MoFAs, I can still ask them favours. I'm sure they would help, I've helped them numerous times in the past.
What about the new governments? Do they still have the vision we used to have in the past? Do they still have long term strategies? Probably not. The mechanics of the game have changed, making us focus on the time being, on surviving the current month.
Every president hopes to be able to go down in history as a great president. I don't doubt that each president is doing his best to have a great term. Some succeed, others don't. Some are lucky, others aren't. It's not always up to the president whether he has a great term or not, external factors can contribute greately to his plan.
This having been said, I realize that Romania isn't doing well. I realize that whomever would come and rule it at this stage, he/she wouldn't manage to make a great deal out of it. Why? Because we are in a bad position.
I wonder if any of you ever watched the Eurovision contest. No, I'm not going to talk about the quality of the music sang there, but I will talk about the votes. We have all noticed that neighbouring countries stick to eachother. The maximum number of votes go to the neighbours and friends. Always. It is in our human nature to stick to our closed ones, whether they are good or bad. Why has our attitude changed in this game?
I'd like to especially focus on Serbia. Serbia is a neighbouring country, there are many Serbs living in Romania and we, as a nation, generally like the Serbs. I think that if we were to make a general survey and ask people what they think about Serbs, we'd find out that we are very similar to them and, in RL situations, our two nations would stick together.
I think that this war between our two nations is pointless. I'm sure the Serbs don't hate us. I'm sure they don't feel a particular joy fighting against us. I've always wondered if any of the current presidents have asked their nation whether they agree with this so called war.
It would be my great pleasure, as a mere observer, to see this pointless war come to an end. We'd be so much better together than apart. Our strategies could change, we could focus on greater, long-term goals, being the power we all once were. Having the fun we all once had.
Think about it!

i can't, not even a bit, speak english, or read it aswell...but i have to say i admire your perseverance and dadication in all your work you have been involved in. you can't take no for an answer, do you?
nice work taking care of you though
I don`t hate anybody especially not Romanians.
This is just a game, and I`m afraid that you have chosen sides long ago. But you never know what will future bring.
Until we not reanalyze our relations with our neighbors we are trapped forever in a cage. Here I speak about eSerbia - old gentlemen's agreement.
frumos articol..merita un shout 😛
@Baron 5: I thing there were "contextual" sides. In another games, and the best example is cyber, the relations between Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary are totally different.
I don't think Serbians hate you, they just want your regions.
Vote!
Nice article, but this Balkan thing is a mess...you can't be friend with Serbian and Croatia in the same time. That's the way it is...You can't be friend with Greace and Macedonia in the same time...Romania and Hungry, Bulgaria and Macedonia, Turky and Cyprus, UK and Irland...very very long list...that's the beauty of this game...you need panoramic view and not to watch only in one directions.
All the best in your game brake...
Romania join ONE? xD
Foarte bine punctat, @costel_t!
Nice article
articolul spune asa; nu va putem bate, suntem varza, asa ca am dori sa ne unim cu voi.
it's just a game, relax and take it easy... LOL!
Nice article but a little bit out of context these days .
In RL we are good friends with Serbia .
In ER eSerbia has always been on the other side .
Until recently the eRo-eSrb relations were on a cold enemy basis ,we were enemies but it was nothing personal .
Recently eRomania has been added to the list of "emotional foes" ,mainly because we were considered main (or second in command) for the nasty blow that dismantled the eSerbian Empire in a matter of days .
Regarding the list of "emotional foes " :eSerbian leadership has been playing this card too long ,since the beginning eSerbia has entered the game with a list of emotional foes (mainly from RL) ..in the game this list has increased .eSrb leadership has "identified " new emotional foes in the past has has played this card to keep people in the game ,since a lot of valuable eSrb leaders are not in the game this card it is more and more appealing to the new and less experienced .
As a very long time observer of eSerbia I must say that the list of emotional foes has increased ,what it has decreased it's the list of friends .
Whilst eSerbia is very strong now for the future to have such a long list of emotional foes and a shortening list of friends spells trouble .
And there is a very clear of example of that in ER , it is called eRomania 😁
i think IGM eSerbia and eHungary have unbreakable relationships now with ePoland to,we have in RL good relationships with Hungary but IGM we never been on same side ....: )
Greece and Serbia have great relationships in RL but IGM eSerbia is friend with eTurky this is just game i know you wana best for your country ,just relax....)
I agree with your view, vladb.
The way I see things, both in erepublik and in RL, is that we don't need to pick a path and blindly follow it, just because at a certain moment in time it seemed to be the right thing to do. I think we should constantly review our actions and the impact these actions have on ourselves and on others.
At a certain point in time, Bulgaria was our enemy. Things have changed, governments have changed. As a results, we are fighting side by side nowadays.
We can't always base our decisions for the future on the decisions which were taken in the past. I haven't agreed with all the actions our previous governments have taken, which means that I might want to change what they have done "wrong", if given the chance.
Sure, my article may seem utopic. But then again, I am well known for being an idealist. : )
vladb, couldn't have said it better.
unualibro... nu ii putem bate pt k sunt multe persoane din eRo care lupta impotriva noastra 😐... qm ai vrea u s ii batem sau s ne putem dezvolta corect ?
that's why I love peach (:

Cele mai bune wishes !
Long live peach queen of the pink land 🙂
Croatia made peace with Serbia
Turkey made peace with Greece
Bulgaria made peace with Turkey
Croatia made peace with Hungary
Macedonia is young and will likely want to fight for a while... but EVERYONE TIRES OF THE SAME WARS ALL THE TIME.
Admit your past mistakes, turn the corner and leave EDEN. Maybe get Croatia to leave with you. After that, things will get better but until then they will not. Mark my words.
JyM22, I also believe that a restructuring of the alliances is needed. Otherwise, it will all turn into routine.
