ESO Weekly Round-Up #9

Day 1,402, 19:11 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Emergy Maxfell

*Ahem* (clears throat)

Before we begin, I'd like to take a minute to explain the unusual circumstances which find me writing this week’s weekly round-up.

It was just your average Thursday afternoon in eRepublik land. I was sitting at my desk in the Bank of England doodling mustaches on pictures of Lego soldiers, daydreaming, and frantically shuffling papers and yelling "SELL SELL" every time Kevy walked by the office. I had nearly completed an entire hours worth of work and was just about to step out for some delicious Free ESO Omeletts when I noticed Daeres walk into the bank. "Emergy! I'm glad you're here, we need you to write our weekly round-up article." Daeres looked overworked. His once luscious orange and black fur was patchy and matted. Exhausted, he paced across the office. "I've got Congressional Elections to organize, an IRC channel to manage, charity drives to direct, and a forum to keep tidy. Not to mention we're trying to recruit new people into the party and get this military unit off the ground" he added. "Well, I am really busy" I said, as I quickly minimized Minesweeper and clicked the Ministry of Finance Google Doc to cover my tracks "but sure, I'll see what I can come up with." "Excellent!" he exclaimed, "I've got 55 more in game messages to send before day change and that damn mass mailer is messed up again. Stupid API, this is going to take forever." "Remember" he added, "you've got to do at least as good as M Willmont and Ollivander, so don’t mess this up." His claws, now fully extended, dug deep into the dark mahogany finish on the desk. "I won't let you down Sir!" I said. All the while wondering what Kevy was going to say about the tiger sized claw marks "It will be in your inbox before end of day. After all, this is ESO. When we work together, we're unstoppable!" "Now.... how bout' a tiger ride out of here??!" I joked as Daeres headed for the door. He looked back, "Don't push your luck Maxfell."

And so our story of unusual circumstances comes to an end. Although neither Mr. Willmott nor Sir Olly of Vander of Norman of Croft of Fox is around to write this edition, the show must go on!

So, we will begin this round-up as we have done many times in times past. ESO! ASSEMBLE!

Congressional Elections
Septembers Congressional Elections are here! If you're a member of ESO and want to run for congress in September you HAVE to contact Daeres, be confirmed where to run, and candidate yourself by the end of day on the 23rd as game mechanics will prevent you from candidating any later.

The Battle of London
Perhaps the hottest topic all week is the eUK’s ongoing war with Canada and Ireland. As you're no doubt aware, last weekend London was attacked by the combined forces of Canada and her TERRA and Eden allies. The eUK and pro-ONE nations fought hard to defend London but she finally fell to the Canadians in the final mini battle. This was the first time London had ever been occupied, and while the Canadians paid a heavy price for their conquest (the loss of several productive American regions they had swapped for) it was nevertheless a great moral victory for our maple leaf clad brothers and sisters in the north. Fearing a long occupation, Londoners stocked up on bagged milk, maple syrup, and hockey accessories only to see their investments plummet after London was recaptured 36 hours later. You live, you learn.

The Legion
Another thing happening this week is the launch of ESO's official in-game military unit! I won't take any of jamesw's thunder away so if you want to read the announcement or the follow up article explaining why joining the ESO military unit makes financial sense, I’d encourage you to do so. One interesting thing to mention, with so many company managers in ESO our military unit has ended up taking a decidedly economic twist. We've received over 12,000 GBP in contributions in just the last few days to help ESO members build self capacity and upgrade their town centers. Since each MU member has their own unique building requirements, we're evaluating as we go along. So, if you want to participate in the economic side of things (and you don't plan on quitting anytime soon) then get in touch with jamesw or one of our other military unit commanders.

ESO Food Donations: Gift wrap included.

Donation Drive
Since our donation drive first began, ESO has given out over 200,000 wellness worth of food to citizens of the UK regardless of party affiliation. Another one will be kicking off in the beginning of October and we're looking forward to our best month ever. Hope everyone has been stocking up!

September Party President Elections
Finally, ESO is happy to have Daeres back for his second term as Party President. He's a great guy and works hard (maybe to hard) for the party. I think I speak for everyone when I say - We're lucky to have him here.

That's about it!

Reporting live from the ESO Newsroom, this has been your weekly round up!

Yours truly,
Emergy & Mrs. Claus
