Turkey Reemerges as Phoenix Stages Comeback, Day 1064

Day 1,064, 15:10 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Following a day in which three Phoenix countries were conquered, Phoenix staged a modest rally by restoring eTurkey and eSlovenia to the map while also engaging the eUSA in Southeast Asia. The moves are a drastic change from Day 1063 and the immediate past, and could be the beginning of Phoenix's long journey towards recovery.

An eTurkish supertank led the charge for liberating the Aegean Coast of Turkey early on Day 1064

Turkey Retakes Possession of Aegean Coast
Just over 15 hours transpired between eGreece’s original conquest of eTurkey, and eTurkey’s liberation of the Aegean Coast at 11:01 eRep time on Day 1064. The Phoenix success there then prompted a second resistance war (RW) targeting Southeastern Anatolia, although this campaign is in its early stages and very evenly contested at this time. eGreece has not staged a new attack on the Aegean Coast, but more RWs are likely to be launched in the coming days; although eGreece has undergone a massive, ePoland-like baby boom, the majority of these citizens are likely real life (RL) eTurks who would support the Resistance Forces in any battles for eTurkish regions when they are able to fight. On the other hand, if those newcomers are eGreeks, then that could play into the EDEN state's favor.

The eUSA opted to attack eSerbian Eastern Thailand (orange),
but its foothold in Southeast Asia is in danger of falling (circled).

USA, Serbia Trade Regions in Southeast Asia
As reported late on Day 1063, the eUSA opted to move from its Southeast Asian foothold against eSerbia’s colonies, as opposed to neighboring eIndonesia, by attacking and conquering Eastern Thailand. The region holds little of strategic value, but the eUSA succeeded in removing eSerbia from the most isolated of its three regional territories. In response, eSerbia countered on eUSA-occupied Southern Thailand just after server reset, conquering the eUSA's entry point to SE Asia. In effect, both countries traded regions with each other, a move which benefits the Phoenix power.
While the eUSA could simply attack Southern Thailand again, eSerbia's win there theoretically enabled eSerbia to block the eUSA from advancing in SE Asia for the time being, since Eastern Thailand is isolated from the rest of the area. Moreover, eSerbia could even push outwards to India, and possibly target the eUSA-held Tamil Nadu. Combined, these factors make the battle which started later in Day 1064 at Peninsular Malaysia even more crucial for the eUSA, who can win here and remain in SE Asia and within striking distance of other eSerb and eIndo regions. If they fail at Peninsular Malaysia, the eUSA will need to be able to win and secure Southern Thailand-- and protect Tamil Nadu-- if it wishes to make a successful campaign anytime soon.

eHungary and an RW took back parts of eSlovenia from eCroatia (circled),
while eHungary also had three EDEN attacks to defend against on Day 1064

Hungary Moves on Croatian-Occupied Slovenia, Resists Three Attacks
Action heated up in Southeast Europe, engaging eHungary, eRomania, and eCroatia on Day 1064. The two EDEN powers opened attacks on eHungary, with eCroatia targeting Western Transdanubia 20 minutes before eHungary’s attack on Prekmurje and about one hour after eRomania struck at Northern Hungary. The Phoenix state has had its way with all three battles and is off to a good start on a second eCroat offensive targeting Southern Great Plain later in the day. The most important fight here, however, is the one eHungary started; after eSlovenia’s enclave region of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg (SH&H) was RW’ed away, the small Phoenix partner was eliminated from the map and wholly occupied by eCroatia. eHungary's victory in Prekmurje has returned control of native eSlovenian regions to Phoenix, which they could RW back to eSlovenia and help the country reemerge in time for Congressional elections alongside the newly liberated Inner Carniola. At that point, eSlovenia would just need to survive.

Closing Thoughts
Phoenix is making an impressive recovery attempt, just one day after it watched three member states fall entirely to EDEN attackers. It will be interesting to see if eHungary immediately returns Prekmurje to eSlovenia, or if they waited until closer to 25 October to act as its safeguard. And while there are proclamations of a New eGreek Empire, eTurkey is continuing to stay strong with its new friends who are growing quickly and waiting for their own chance to challenge the eGreeks. eRussia, however, is quiet; this is not surprising, given its precarious position under four EDEN attackers-- their return will be the hardest for Phoenix to ensure, to be sure. The eUSA and eSerbia, for their part, are assuring that the SE Asian campaign will not be over quickly, or easy for either side to win. While the first day looked good for Phoenix, they still have far to go and today could easily be rendered irrelevant if their progress is not sustained.

God Bless America,
