Spain, China Advance on New Fronts as Latvia Faces Three-Sided Fight, Day 1118

Day 1,118, 16:33 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Apologies for the infrequent publishing, but the Stars and Stripe Journal returns once more to cover some exciting new developments. While eCanada has neared its reconquest of native regions, new fronts are in the works in Pakistan, the Baltic, and in South America, which will all add more variety to a war zone which has recently been focused solely on the eUK and eCanada. Additional fights are underway in the Balkan states as well, although not enough significant traction is being made here to merit covering and making this article even longer.

Canada Attempts to Remove France from North America, Falls Short
eCanada continued to roll back eFrance with attacks on eFrance at Nova Scotia on Day 1116 at 09:13, followed by Prince Edward Island (PEI) the following day. PEI is eFrance’s final remaining region in Canada, and for this reason, was successfully defended.

eChina's advances in Pakistan have given the EDEN state plenty of new resources

China Moves on Pakistan
Day 1117 brought eChina starting war against ePakistan the Dioist nation which weeks ago overran eIndia. Since eChina’s initial incursions, the EDEN ally has won two easy victories in Punjab and the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP), followed with an attack on Day 1118 at 15:04 against Sindh. This campaign has been critical for eChina to develop its resource diversity, as conquering the NWFP afforded eChina access to aluminum, while Punjab provides grain and Sindh will give eChina its first fruit holdings. Echina may or may not intend to fully conquer ePakistan, but each region it has targeted provided material benefits which will enable eChina to hold every new raw material except deer.

eSpain has been invited by eVenezuela to attack its border with eBrazil, to block an invasion threat; in return, eSpain will receive resources it would not ordinarily have access to

Spain Attacks Venezuela to Block Brazil
The eSpanish made a surprising move on Day 1117 by declaring eVenezuela its natural enemy, which was followed shortly thereafter by an attack on Guyana. The reason, as stated by eSpain’s Defense Ministry appears to be in response to an eVenezuelan appeal to make a barrier against an imminent invasion from eBrazil; in return, eSpain will inherit a grain and oil region (two resources the country naturally lacks) for a minimal price. It is interesting to see this underlying tension among the EDEN stalwart, eSpain, and the Phoenix-leaning but eUSA-allied, eBrazil. Tensions between these two countries who have long been at war with each other could undermine the recently cemented eUSA-eBrazil alliance if the eUSA was asked to take sides or showed any favoritism. For diplomatic reasons, this front will remain worth monitoring.

USA, UK Spar in Great Britain
eUSA crossed the Irish Sea and attacked the naturally eUK region of Wales on Day 1115 at 16:04. Willingly extending the conflict in Northern Europe in the process. Meanwhile, eIreland successfully liberated Northwest of Ireland via RW for the region on Day 1117 at 10:40. Additional eUSA successes against the eUK have prompted the need for RW attempts to liberate South West of England, while the eUSA continued on Day 1118 to advance by attacking North West of England at 12:31. The long-term objectives in this front are hard to define, although the eUSA could benefit from eUK's three iron regions, if it were to successfully occupy any. However, this front oscillates so frequently that there may be no definitive end to the fighting here, as this front still pits a traditional in-game rivalry that seems to be hard to ignore.

After being on the offensive in previous weeks, eLatvia finds
itself targeted by three of its neighbors

Latvia Carved by Three States
The Baltic states saw more action on Day 1116 as eLithuania opened two battles against eLatvia and overran Zemgale and Kurzeme with minimal interference; an attempted insurrection was also easily beaten back. Day 1117 brought Phoenix power eRussia into the fray, as eRussia sacked Latgale and left eLatvia with one remaining region. eLatvia subsequently had its life put on the line when eEstonia attacked Vidzeme on Day 1117 at 13:21; however, substantial EDEN aid is going into the battle to keep eLatvia afloat. Even if this battle for Vidzeme falls in eLatvia’s favor, however, it is flanked by three hostile neighbors who could target the region until it falls. The entire ordeal is coming full-circle for eLatvia, who recently conquered substantial portions of its neighbors and is now seemingly receiving its just desserts. The immediate future looks very bleak for the eLatvian nation.

Poland, Sweden Attack Smaller Neighboring Foes
Following the declaration of natural enemies, ePoland resumed attacks against eGermany by attacking Brandenburg and Berlin as well as Saxony at 05:40 on Day 1117; despite ePoland’s overwhelming victory in Berlin, however, Saxony took the full 30 hours to fight before ePoland bested the eGermans and its allies. Both regions afford ePoland with fruit resources it did not previously hold, but it is unknown whether ePoland will attempt to also take eGermany’s numerous aluminum and iron regions, additonal resources which ePoland lacks. Meanwhile, eSweden is [url= overrunning tiny eDenmark, accentuated on Day 1117 with their attack against Syddanmark and a Day 1118 strike against Midtjylland. Only one region will remain after Midtjylland falls, which could result in eDenmark’s removal from the map by Day 1120.

Brazil Finishing Work in South Africa
eBrazil continues to advance in eSouth Africa with the locals’ help by attacking Northwest Province at 05:56 on Day 1117, followed nearly 24 hours later with an attack against Western Cape. The final eSA region should come under fire as soon as Day 1119 and be conquered the same day as eDenmark, but the timing of eSA’s liberation will be important to see whether the Party President elections will take place while eSA is entirely occupied. This remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, there is some sad news to share today

Final Thoughts, and Sad News
We are seeing a trend of resource prioritization in effect, which is reverberating to when, where, and how most countries are choosing their battles. It seems that the traditional rivalries are playing a secondary role to more practical fights, which could make it easier to anticipate a state’s move and create countermeasures. However, the alliance game is still adjusting, as can be seen in eBrazil’s foreign affairs; whether alliance dynamics shift significantly in the coming weeks to reflect the change in targeting could cause even more ripples in New World warfare.
In sadder news, I am announcing my imminent retirement as a wartime reporter. Writing on eRepublik's wars has been fun for well over a year, but I will not be able to continue my coverage much beyond the start of 2011. I hope to promote upcoming war writers in my paper so they gain exposure and the world still gets its reporting, and I also promise to write an article detailing how I have prepared each one you all have enjoyed. Hopefully, someone will take my place as an unbiased and objective writer once I put away my pen 🙂

God Bless America,
