Phoenix Makes Gains in Iberian Peninsula, Threatening Romania and USA, Day 1083

Day 1,083, 16:14 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

The tables may be turning in the New World, as eSpain has found its territories dwindling, eRomania faces a resurgent resistance in Russia, and eIndonesia notched a few victories against the eUSA.

France, Brazil Roll in Spain
Continuing in its war with eSpain, eFrance attacked Castilla la Mancha at 21:29 on Day 1081. Having conquered the region just before server reset on Day 1082, eFrance then unleashed a much broader offensive, which included an attack on the eSpanish capital of Madrid at 23:42, along with Navarra and Catalonia at 23:45 and 23:46 respectively. La Rioja was targeted on Day 1083 at 12:53, pitting eSpain and eFrance in a four-front war for much of Day 1083; however, eFrance will have notched the largest victory unless eSpain is able to turn a massive deficit in Madrid into a victory. As a result, eSpain will have lost its capital to the eFrench for the first time since World War III. Even worse for eSpain, their northern neighbor is not the only aggressor in the Iberian Peninsula.

One day makes a difference. Early in Day 1083 (left), signs of a massive campaign
were evident. Since then (right), eSpain is in danger of losing its capital (circled), and
may soon have its economic hub (squared) within the attackers' grasp

eBrazil continued its own offensive with a three victories on Day 1082, conquering Algarve, Extremadura, and Murcia. With a wider base in eSpain, the eBrazilians opened new fronts on Day 1083 against Castilla y Leon at 01:44 and Valencian Community at 08:40; both regions are being heavily contested, but eSpain is seemingly putting up a strong fight and may be able to halt eBrazil.

If eSpain loses Castilla y Leon to eBrazil, as the map above shows, eSpain’s crucial iron hub of Asturias will be approachable by both eFrance and eBrazil. Both offensive powers appear to be carving eSpain in half and positioning themselves so both could alternate attacking Asturias until it fell, or simply "bait and bleed" eSpain by draining its economy; both scenarios would leave eSpain in a very dire situation. Time will tell whether eSpain can rally enough support from its allies to halt the onslaught it is facing and protect its iron lifeline, or make an effort to reverse the Phoenix attack.

The eUSA is attempting to retake Southern Thailand, while also protecting
its Malaysian (circled) and Indian territories from resistance war attempts

Indonesia Challenges USA Hold in Southeast Asia
eIndonesia opened and won two significant battles against the eUSA’s holdings at Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia throughout Day 1082, which have put the eUSA squarely on the defensive. The eIndonesian victory in Southern Thailand was notable, as it lasted the full 30 hours and showed that the Phoenix country could withstand late tanking efforts, especially when the time of battle was not favorable to real life (RL) USA players. The eUSA has been put further on the defensive by having to protect against Phoenix-backed resistance wars (RW) for the naturally eMalaysian regions of Sabah and Sarawak, which the eUSA took from eSerbia just four days prior. Although the eUSA is winning both RW attempts, losing both would shut the eUSA from Southeast Asia and force the country to reenter Thailand from India, where the eUSA’s hold of Tamil Nadu is also being challenged. The eUSA is not entirely on the defensive, however, as Day 1083 also witnessed the eUSA’s counterattack on Southern Thailand and its efforts to reestablish its position in SE Asia.

Romania Fights Bulgaria, Hungary, Russian Resistance
The traditional Phoenix power, eHungary, rebounded from its Election Day damage by moving on and retaking Northern Great Plain from eRomania. eHungary sought to continue its momentum by striking eRomania’s native region of Crisana at 08:48, which was followed moments later by eBulgaria joining eHungary in attacking Dobrogea. In response, eRomania targeted eBulgarian regions of Varna and Ruse two hours later. While the defender is in the advantage of all these fronts, eRomania is not so fortunate in its struggle against a newfound resistance effort in eRussia, which has encountered early success in Volga and the North Caucasus. While my previous article detailed the political struggle in eRussia, which Phoenix won, eRussia could be positioning itself for having a larger Congress later this month if this and other RWs were to succeed. By stretching eRomania across so many fronts, the resistance could win one of these regions and slowly help return eRussia to the map.

The Way Ahead
eSpain is clearly in trouble, and will be in greater peril if eBrazil is able to win Castilla y Leon. On the other hand, the eUSA has taken some setbacks in SE Asia, but may be rebounding and making a comeback against eIndonesia. eRomania, for its part, has a tough task of defending against two attacking Phoenix powers while also securing its eRussian holdings. How the chips fall in the coming days will be interesting to see, and will shape the war in the days ahead.

God Bless America,
