Arthur Wellesley for UKRP Party President - April 2009

Day 508, 11:41 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Arthur Wellesley

Friends! Britons! Countrymen, lend me your ears! (at 12.5% interest, quarterly!)

The time has come upon us all to select a new Party President for this noble and august body, the United Kingdom Reform Party. When I was but a lowly new citizen in the eUK, having just stepped off the boat from the Old World with nary a GBP to my name, I was warmly received by the good people of the UKRP. The party has been good to me, and I want to give back -- that is the main reason why I am running to be your Party President.

I recognize that I haven’t been around as long as some of our more esteemed members. Who can fill Funky’s shoes? (And they being funky shoes, who would want to 😉 ) However, what I lack in plain experience, I make up for in being an exceedingly fast learner, a hard worker, and a belief that a leader should always canvass those he leads for their opinions and alternate ideas. I am a Member of Parliament, a manager of a business, the head of a bank, and the Under Minister of Finance. I have worked along side the best and brightest in the UK, and I hope to turn the UKRP into an envied and prestigious group that others look to follow, rather than the party that everyone loves to hate and resent.

As your Party President, I will have the following goals:

1) I feel like this party needs to have a more concrete structure. As it was once put to me, and I paraphrase, the UKRP is a large, unwieldy ship whose power is only evident when it can be talked into firing all at once. I aim to make this easier, both for myself, and for future party presidents. To do this, my first step will be in establishing (or re-establishing) the official position of Party Whip. The Whip will be my ‘boots on the ground’, so to speak, when it comes to getting the UKRP in line. We have MPs that don’t show up for votes, we have MPs that don’t discuss, and the Whip is going to seek these people out and bring them back into the fold. This brings me to my second point.

2) It has long been discussed that the problem of inactive people in Parliament is one of the largest drawbacks to eRepublik. I recognize that this is a problem that has been worked on people far smarter and far more experienced than I. As the leader of the UKRP, I believe I would have sufficient resources to start trying to hammer the administrators into perhaps redressing this issue. To this end, I will attempt to co-ordinate a campaign of cross party nuisances. We will begin messaging them daily in game, in the forums, through email, and even on Facebook, to bring some sort of solution to the table. I believe the most commonly accepted solution is to give Party Presidents control over the candidates their party fields, and this will be the solution that we will propose. I have already gotten the support of one other party's president regarding this, and will reach out to others if elected.

3) I will designate people to be "Party Ambassadors", to go out into their communities to build ties with citizens, to try and shepherd new players into the world (while hopefully encouraging them to join the UKRP), and show people that we're not a bunch of "inactive two-clickers" as we have been lately denounced as, but rather the party that represents the best that the eUK can offer.

4) Finally, I will make it my own personal responsibility to oversee the success of the UKRP in the next elections. If the party does not feel that we do well enough, I will step down from my position rather than run again. I pledge to you that the party will do its utmost to capture as many victories in as many elections as possible. It is my intention to not only return the UKRP to the office of the Prime Minister, but if possible to increase the seat gains we made in Parliament. We will field a candidate for CP, and we will win.

That is really all I have to say to you for the moment. Those are my goals, and I can’t get there on my own. Even if you elect me, I will fail on every single point without your continued support and hard work. I thank you for your time, and I hope you will vote for me.
