Hi Kids!

[UPDATE, This just in: It appears Plato has changed his mind about the price gouging. The pricing of gold to purchase in real life has been reduced to the old price. Let's see if we get some candy bars for this!

Do you ever buy gold? I mean with real life money. You know, so you can get that upgrade for your business or to go for the BH medal. Boy do the Admins have a special deal for you!

For a limited time you can upgrade your business for 50% off! That's right, out of the goodness of their hearts, the proprietors of this game want to give you something for nothing. Or do they? Let's have a look.

The Shell Game

[UPDATE: The billing price is now back to the original. However the listed price is slightly different. Makes me wonder what they are up to.]

Do they have your attention fixed on the wars? Are you scrambling to stay afloat in this crazy eRep economy? Are you trying desperately to make sense of the game? Plato is pleased. He hopes you don't notice this if you decide to buy gold today:

Product/Service.......Unit price (advertised in Gold and Extras)

Pack Gold 300.........
142.29 142.66 USD
Pack Gold 175.........
85.32 85.54 USD
Pack Gold 65............
35.47 35.56 USD
Pack Gold 25............
14.10 14.14 USD
Pack Gold 11.............
6.98 7.00 USD

[UPDATE: The billing price is now back to the original.]

However, when you get to the credit card billing screen:

Product/Service.......Unit price (actual sale price)

Pack Gold 300.........
199.80 142.29 USD
Pack Gold 175.........
119.80 85.32 USD
Pack Gold 65............
49.80 35.47 USD
Pack Gold 25............
19.80 14.10 USD
Pack Gold 11.............
9.80 6.98 USD

Keep your eye on the pea! Which shell is it under?

In the USA we have laws that prevent a merchant from advertising one price and then charging a higher price for the product. It is called fraud. Perhaps Romanian laws are different?

[UPDATE: I'm not sure whether or not this article had anything to do with the problem being 'fixed'. If it did, I was only too happy to help in some small way. It remains to be seen if a refund to those who purchased gold at the inflated price will happen. For those involved, I hope it does.

The odd thing about this whole affair was that this article is still here and I accumulated no FP's.]
