Wycliffe for Congress: Maryland for the Future

Day 394, 08:38 Published in USA USA by John Wycliffe

Fellow Citizens of Maryland,

It’s a time of great trial for the United States, and it is a time when our Congress cannot be taken lightly. We must evaluate every decision with care so that we make the best ones possible so we can move on to a greater tomorrow. Our economy is hitting a rough patch and the war is not faring as well as could be hoped, but there is still time to make this nation into something truly great.

I hope that the following will be adequate enough to explain my positions and enough to win your vote:

Healthcare
Every state needs a high quality hospital. We shouldn’t have to ship our soldiers to Florida and DC to serve the country, that is a disservice to them and an inconvenience to the our armed forces. I would support, when budget permits, the immediate strengthening of our Hospital systems throughout the United States of America.

Defense
Every state also needs to have some sort of defense. If, heaven forbid, we were invaded, we need adequate defenses. I would support, when budget permits, the immediate strengthening of our defense systems throughout the United States of America.

Atlantis
I support Atlantis and those sister nations. We should rise to the occasion and support them when necessary. Our support of Spain is important to assess, however, in wars of this kind of aggression, we must question the extent to which we allow Spain to dictate our actions and the course of Atlantis.

The War
I supported the war upon its beginning but cannot claim to be a fervent supporter of it now. Our troops are not being well-supplied and we are simply wasting funds. My proposition would be to hold what we have now and not move any further and to end the war with PEACE, hopefully with terms that would involve the independence of Switzerland. However, this decision is not one for the USA to make on its own. This is an alliance decision, and we cannot pull out without the consent of our sister nations of Atlantis.

Military Reform
I value our armed forces and the work they have done, and I have also fought in France prior to officially joining the G Company 3rd Platoon under Kron Bjordon. However, as I fought without pay in this war, I do not see it as wholly necessary. What I do see as necessary, however, is the funding of armaments and medical supplies. The supply of troops with weapons and medical gifts from the US Army is vital to success. Peacetime military salary, in the eUSA, however, is not vital and I have survived without it and think it is wholly possible for others to do so, as well, if not for recognition of practical necessity out of patriotism for a government lacking funds for actual military supplies. I think this is an either-or issue, we cannot have both supplies and pay, we must chose one or the other.

Jobs
Right now it is very difficult for new players to get a decent job to keep them alive to be able to pay for food. I plan to work with whoever is willing in Congress to find a solution to either lower food costs to an affordable rate or to raise payment for entry-level jobs so that food can be afforded. I would definitely prefer the former because a raise in salary could have long term unfavorable consequences. The root of the problem seems to be pay in the agriculture industry which pays at a much higher rate than any other in the country. Negotiations should be opened with these businesses and some consensus can be reached.

Taxes
My stance on taxes is flexible because we have seen and will see the market fluctuate frequently. No absolute stance can and should be taken because it only establishes an inflexible model that will need to be scrapped come next economic turn. While everyone, including myself, would love to have taxes low across the board all the time, this is not feasible. I would be for the formation of an economic team that tracks market trends and brings its findings to Congress so appropriate tax hikes or reductions can be made.

My Opponent: One Eye
I disagree that we have too many jobs and not enough workers, as he states. We are seeing a horrible lack of jobs among the class of new members. They cannot find jobs for low skill levels, and if they do, they don't pay adequately enough to sustain life. This is because food is too expensive which is due to agricultural salaries (see Jobs platform).
I agree with my opponent, One Eye, that we need defense systems on our borders as well as high quality hospitals. I also agree that the purchase of low quality hospitals is not beneficial. We stand together on these points.
Our largest point of disagreements would be on the rigid tax principles he adhere to. I do not support a uniform tax rate across all industries. This allows us no flexibility. The use of tariffs that he proposes, however, is rational and could be very beneficial in this economy.

Closing Remark
I hope I have highlighted my platform in sufficient detail to win your vote, and I hope that you'll come out and cast your ballots on election day.
