World Cup so far

Day 949, 09:56 Published in Ireland Ireland by Sean MacDiarmata

So the first match of the knockout stages is over....Uruguay beating South Korea 2-1, so how have things faired so far.

Well France and Italy both finished bottom of their respective groups...France got beaten by both Mexico and South Africa and had so many problems within their camp to count. Italy got beaten by Slovakia in there last match and drew with Paraguay and world cup minnows New Zealand. There will be a lot of fallout from both their exits from the world cup....France have already seen their manager resign...a number of players retiring and their fitness coach quit after the team refused to train in the days leading up to their must win match against South Africa, also the teams general director quit aswell. With Italy its not so bad yet Marcello Lippi hasn't resigned and neither has any of his staff but Fabio Cannavaro has retired and will now go to United Arab Emirates to play his football. Of the African teams all but Ghana have been eliminated, Cameroon finished last behind Denmark, Ivory Coast finished 3rd in the group with Brazil & Portugal, Algeria finished 4th behind Slovenia, Nigeria finished 4th behind Greece and South Africa finished 3rd ahead of France.

We all know who's playing who and there is some mouth watering tie's ahead for football fans, there are two all South American ties with Brazil playing Chile, Argentina playing Mexico. There are three all European ties the best being Germany against England also is Spain against Portugal and Holland against Slovakia. The other games are Urugauy who beat South Korea earlier today and USA against Ghana.

As a football fan I cant wait to see three of the above games in particular Germany vs England, Spain vs Portugal and Argentina vs Mexico....these three should be great games...and we can only wait to see who will be eliminated next. With the USA vs Ghana match kicking off tonight at 7.30 gmt time we will know soon who Uruguay will play...but something tells me it will be another America's tie with the USA vs Uruguay.

Enjoy your football...and lets hope for some real crackers
