Winning At eRepublik and Why the eUK Can't

Day 1,810, 13:37 Published in United Kingdom Norway by Major Lee Hung

The UK is often regarded as a major player in the real world. One of the strongest economies, a decent population by European standards and a role model for Eastern countries. Our military is one of the most advanced in the world, putting us in a very important place in NATO missions.

On eRepublik however, things couldn't be further away from our real life nation. Our population is amongst the smallest in the eWorld, our military is weak and largely ineffective and we're often forgotten about by the major ePowers. Due to our real life standing in the world, it's easy to understand why certain eUK citizens think the eUK to be much more relevant than it really is.

Look at the eUK through the eyes of any super-power in the Balkan region:

Why we're attractive to invade
-Strategic location for crossing over to north America
-Small population, redundant military and lack of 'tanks' make it an easy win

What makes us even more irrelevant in their eyes
-Lack of strategic resources
-Declining power
-Overrun by internal debates

On a similar note, have you ever stopped to think what other countries think of us? Past CPs have often made the mistake of thinking the eUK is important, and have made many bad decisions that will tarnish our reputation for months to come. I spent around 12 months travelling around the eWorld. I went to countries like eAustralia, eUSA,eMacedonia, eSerbia, eCanada and eSouth Africa. In allied countries (Serbia and Macedonia) the opinions of us varied greatly. To Serbia, at the time, we were merely 'another country' on their list of MPPs to fight for them every day. To Macedonia, we were considered a close ally but they still found their own struggles to be more important than ours.

Amongst our enemies however, a common theme arose. They all find us to be backstabbers and beleive we're not to be trusted. (Which is fine, because who in their right mind wants to work with eUSA?) Just another factor strangling our progress in another area - international politics.

So what is the formula to success on eRepublik?

There is one very simple answer - real life. After playing for so long, I've found that the only way to really 'succeed' is for your country to have a strong political history. Suffering injustices or fighting with neighbours can often make many wants to play and inflict their misery on the internet. To make this a little easier to understand, let's take a look at the most powerful eCountries as cases studies.

eUSA

eUSA is at the forefront of real-world's international politics. The most vocal country, the strongest military, the 'bully in the playground'. Not only this, but the average American follows politics religiously. Especially during the eUS election, you can probably expect to see a large influx of people wanting to try out politics for themselves in this little game. While it's not much compared to other countries, it's enough to keep their population high.

eChina

Not only is it the most heavily populated country in the world, it too has its fair share of real-life politics. Constant problems and territorial disputes with neighbours in real life give it the political factor needed to 'win' at eRepublik.

eSerbia, eRomania, eCroatia, eHungary, eMacedonia

Yugoslavia - this should say it all. Following the bloody wars in the 90s following the collapse of Yugoslavia, the memories of the pain inflicted by their neighbours is very much fresh in their minds. Then, along comes eRepublik; a game where these countries get score +1 against their old enemies, it's very attractive for them to want to play. Former-Yugoslavian countries are the full package of what it takes to win at eRepublik - Strong real-life political events, recently war-torn and a strong hate for their neighbours. These factors are so powerful, it makes them the centre of eRepublik.

Winning At eRepublik

So there you have it - the game is centred exclusively on the Balkan region's heated debates.

How do you win? Unless you're Romania, Hungary, Croatia or Serbia, you don't. The game is centred on this regions, the game becomes increasing built upon their wars, the game makes a profit on the misery of their past. The only way to win at this game is to unite behind one of these 4 countries and throw every penny into eRepublik fighting for them. In other words - everything that happens outside of East Europe on eRepublik is completely irrelevant, and that's never going to change. Accustom yourself to this fact and you'll see what eRepublik is really about.
