Who do you vote for?

Day 1,617, 07:58 Published in Australia Greece by Jack Lantos

There's plenty of candidates asking for your vote right now, but who will you pick?

In our country we have around 260 voters (~100 people?), and around 75 candidates of which half will get into congress/senate. Some of those elected suddenly go inactive, and the remainder will share in the responsibility of setting taxes and policies and making decisions for the country.

In a free democracy citizens can vote based on any criteria they want, or even for no reason. That's fine with us because we like to be free. So I've been wondering what are the reasons people get elected? I've put together some possibilities:

Family ties.
It's natural to support one's own kind, and often a group of voters and the candidate are so closely related that they turn out to be the same person.

Location.
If you need to travel somewhere, I suppose you can count on free transport if there is a candidate at your destination.

Economics.
We have all heard about the economy module, we all produce too much stuff and the game itself has to buy it all to prevent collapse for another day. Well, congress candidates are doing their part to save the world too, by giving you free stuff. It takes real ethical powers to dig deep and bribe you do the right thing.

Repetition.
You may have noticed the habit-forming properties that this game is built on; if you want to fight you get to click the fight button lots of times, if you want to work you get to click the work button lots of times, etc. Perhaps voting for your favourite candidate is just another thing that gets repeated because we are used to doing the same things over and over.

Enemy of your enemy.
Maybe you just don't like a person, but sadly you can't give them a -1 point. The next best option is to vote for their rival, right?

Party power.
When the votes within a party are organised, fewer votes are wasted and more candidates can get in. The party image/agenda is then used as the selling point and not so much the puppet candidate.

Default.
Some people have been elected into congress with zero votes, just because there weren't enough candidates in that region. One of the happy occasions when the candidate is not spamming you to vote for them. Unfortunately they may take it upon themselves to spam you to not vote for them.

I don't fit any of these criteria, but I am running for senate anyway.

Stuff I've done in game:

Made a popular company calculator with 495 downloads to date.

Former minister of finance in eIndia - check my term report.

2nd commander of the Dart-Star Inquisition, the eAustralian MU that was based on the in-game comics of Dartreal.
