This is something I just cannot comprehend.
Why is it that people are so quick to pass judgment on others without the necessary levels of information and insight? I am of course talking about the House of Commons or at least some of its members. Just to make this perfectly clear, I am not a Lord and I don’t want that title either. Back to topic:
Today has seen some of the largest controversy that I have witnessed in the entire time that I have played this game and trust me I have seen a lot. Today we have, collectively, as the UK, taken it to an entirely new level. All this centers around roadrunnerspeed.
Recently he was voted into the House of Lords by its members.
There was proper discussion on RRS’s appointment but in the end it was decided that the things that he achieved for this country far outweighed his one crime: Stealing the UK treasury, using it to manipulate a corrupt government and then returning almost all of it.
The HoC claims that he was voted in based on elitism, and because he is a member of the so called ‘Old Guard’. All of this is complete and utter nonsense and the talk of poorly informed and badly educated Commons members.
In my two terms as President, RRS was my Minister of Finance and he had a very difficult job indeed. We were almost totally bankrupt and as such it was mine and his job to refill our treasury. RRS succeeded in such manner that is only to be described as fantastic and deserving of the highest credit.
Lets fast forward 2 months, Sara Droz has just been elected as President, and her government, especially GokuJones, is threatening to destroy everything that was built by me, my cabinet, RRS and even malta’s administration. This is where RRS decided that some drastic actions needed to be taken. Thus he ‘borrowed’ the BoE funds and agreed to return them on conditions that can only be called beneficial to the UK. While I do not agree with the means, this ‘blackmail’ certainly had a positive impact overall.
I am not here to defend RRS crimes but to appeal to the UK as a whole:
If we are to work together with integrity all this has to stop and it has to stop now. It is downright hypocrisy that those who call the Lords or any other senior government committee: The favoured elite, only to then, 2-3 months down the line, to apply to be appointed as a lord.
This of course is because most good and able people sooner or later do come to the conclusion that their initial views were wrong, that the HoL is needed and that it is INDEED NOT what it is made out to be by new and inexperienced players.
IN the matter at hand, not one but both Houses have failed as the legislative body of the UK. There is nothing in our legislation specifying that ABSTAIN votes do not count towards the final tally, and as a matter of fact they just always have. Therefore the HoL failed to point out that flaw in our legislation.
This is why we need to reconsider reforms for both Houses, in order to clear our jungle of red tape and get down to what is most important:
DOING THINGS THAT BENEFIT THE POPULATION OF THE UK!

Yeah I was. Maybe threatening Ireland was a bit to far, but he wanted RAWR and everyone criticised him for it, when in the end that's what we got (by turning our back on old allies) he was removed because he uncovered a PTO attempt on Ireland, the country he is accused of threatening war on.

The ends do not justify the means, especially considering that RRS didn't even return all the money he stole. If he had, it would be a different story.
He has put his all into this country, he completly destroyed his reputation to save us. If that isnt dedication then i dont know what is!
RRS is a Great guy, you guys are trying to keep him out of the Lords because you are jealous, you feel that you have done more than he has when in fact, you have not.
Also this "oldguard" you people keep claiming about...Tell me iv been in this game 1 Year, the UK Military doesn't Even accept me. shove your whole "old guard" Theory up your but.

I think goku did a good job in ATLANTIS. I certainly wouldn't call him a screwup.
As for RSS, we did a poll in PD, the majority voted against him being a lord. Last I checked this was still a democracy and the will of the public should be law. Therefore I don't agree with this. The public and the people of eUK clearly stated that they do not want him as lord, yet the other lords didn't respected their will. Clearly imo that is elitism.
If we could change our poltical system in erep I would abolish HoC. They know feck all and most weren't around to see what RRS did for the eUK, so please HoC STFU because most of you don't know what RRS did for the eUK and his reasons for taking BoE funds.

Not that I dislike RRS, but people can argue either way for or against, as Shadow has said though surely the public (who voted against his being in the HoL) have the overall say
"One crime". That's all it takes to be a criminal! There is absolutely no justification for steeling from the government. There are proper ways to do things. If people were so unhappy with the government at the time, then they would be voted out anyway. It's a democracy FFS - people can't take it upon themselves to make autocratic decisions and even worse, to commit serious crime.

Though I do agree on the Lords issue. If both the Commons and the public aren't comfortable with RRS then he shouldn't be a Lord.
RRS stole the treasury of the UK and held the country to ransom. He blackmailed the President to sack members of their cabinet.
If you condone him, you condone his actions and set a precedent.
Also, for those of you wondering at the number of votes this got, RRS alone owns more than fifty orgs.

I don't think that someone who's integrity and character have been called into serious disrepute ought to be made a member of the House of Lords.
In effect he used a loophole (albeit one that should have been closed as soon as Goku Jones became MoF) to ransom the Government. This is not acceptable behaviour for someone in the HoL.
RRS tried to PTO our allies - Ireland. I honored our treaty with them by infiltrating his cronies and stopping him and so he threw a hissy fit and stole the treasury via an insecure email account.
Not all of it was returned, with people such as Hassan getting large chucks of gold to tank against ATLANTIS with. With things like this, it isn't hard to see why he is well liked by other corrupt politicians.
Anything else said about this is a lie spun by "the old guard", I'm happy to give a fuller account to anyone who requests it.
In my own defense:
Yes I did subtly "threaten" the Irish President at one point and guess what? It worked and we got our trade embargoes dropped.
I had to do it to show that we could be just as dangerous as the Americans which he was so afraid of upsetting.
I find it ironic that RRS's friends find fault in that still, after what they did to our old allies - such as giving Hungary an open war and border with Canada - and baiting the Americans into loathing the UK.
And yeah ATLANTIS was shit, I was the sole voice asking them to stop infighting and they ignored me - I made myself ill trying to get 13 year old swedes to act like adults.
So then I threatened Sweden too. Do you think I should have said "wow your awesome lol" instead of "we have power and will use it to defend our allies". Do you guys like Sweden? No... so shut up.

I really cannot understand the other side of this argument. I always try my best to consider both sides of a discussion, but I genuinely cannot comprehend why anyone could possibly be in support of it. Even when I read this article, I am cringing for those who defend RRS' entry into the HoL.
Now, don't get me wrong, I have no issue with RRS on a personal level. And indeed, I agree he has done lots for this nation in the past. However, his acts were criminal; RRS will try and tell you they weren't because there was no law saying he couldn't steal! FFS, stealing IS criminal! And not only that, he took funds 'then return[ed] almost all of it'. ALMOST ALL OF IT...wait, you are not telling me he still hasn't returned GOVERNMENT funds that he stole!! Wow, and this is a person you are DEFENDING for Lordship?!
To me it is very obvious that our oligarchs have so lost touch with the public, that they cannot see how this would cause an uproar! Never mind the fact he betrayed the people by blackmailing the person they elected (for good or bad, Sara was the people's choice), he stole funds and never returned them in their entirety!
It appears that HoL is filled with more crooks and cronies than we originally imagined!
Sorry Jerry; I have a lot of respect for you and all, but this is too much to say nothing about!
