USA to be targeted as Europe unites – Unless Croatia goes their own way.

Day 1,139, 15:20 Published in USA USA by Sossu

The reshuffling of alliances has continued through New Year celebrations and as the crucial presidential elections where leaders are elected who will permanently change the geopolitical situation of the world are nearing, emotions and rumors run high. In this article I will take a look on the rumor that has been flying around the most, a fivesome of European superpowers that could come out as a powerful adversary for PANAM, if these two alliances would collide. I will also dedicate a special section for Croatia, as their reluctance towards the idea of a European superalliance can bring the whole endeavor down.

High5, an unholy alliance between eternal enemies.

The thought of a superalliance formed by the strongest of European countries, putting their differences aside and taking a leading role in eRepublik, has been tossed around for ages. Last time it surfaced as a relatively serious proposal was during the time of the Polish-American diplomatic crisis, when a media craze sustained by popular, provocative European journalists tried to destroy the friendship between USA and Poland that would’ve leaded to the collapse of Eden if Poland would quit. The persistent efforts to bring Poland and Hungary closer failed at that time, but the idea has been brought again under the public eye now when Phoenix has collapsed.

The concept of an unholy alliance of these measures is the thought that the nations of Europe can settle their differences that have been created in game and form ties of friendship based on good real life relations. If the nations proposed to join value their similar culture, history and background in real life more than the actions and events in eRepublik’s history, this alliance can be formed. The battle between two ideologies and their supporters, those who think that real life is a factor in eRepublik, and those who think that eRpublik is a new world where real life should be forgotten and set aside, must be solved for good in order to make this alliance a real option.

We all know who emerged as winner and how that ended...poorly.

The proposed nations to form the superalliance are Poland, Hungary, Serbia and Turkey. In addition the memberships of Croatia and Macedonia (trololo) have been proposed, with Croatia having internal disarray regarding the matter (more about that in the section for Croatia) that is for now delaying the formation of the alliance. All proposed nations are close to each other, forming a regional alliance as tight as PANAM, and the alliance would have members from both sides of the current Eden-Phoenix division resembling the recent Brozil-USA-union. There are grave antipathies in the Eastern Europe-Balkan axis, due to troubled RL-history and intense warfare on the region during the entire history of eRepublik as well. If these prejudices and grudges can be overcome, the RL-relationships ranging over the current alliances and denying membership from a certain nation can be enough to make this alliance happen. These are the two factors that are the main engines of this alliances possible formation.

Firstly the warm ties with Poland and Hungary, to which I pointed out earlier already. The positive attitude of Poland towards this endeavor can bring Croatia in as well, as these two nations are also very tight in friendship.
The second factor that makes the alliance possible to be formed is the absence of Romania on the possible members-list. Hungary and Romania can’t work in the same alliance, and the recent conflict between Romania and Poland has closed the door for good for Romania to enter.

FYROM is a new nation who hasn’t engaged in any military conflicts yet, so it’s hard to form a negative opinion of them. Turkey as well has only recently grown to be a nation worth to be acknowledged due to their massive baby boom. They have done no direct harm to Poland or Eden apart from multiple failed attempts to invade Greece. Despite being the strongest nations of their respective alliances, Poland and Serbia have never fought each other directly. Even when Poland was already in Asia, China was chosen to spearhead an effort to invade Liaoning (which ended up to being a failure) instead of Poland even when it was completely possible to set Poland to face Serbia in a gargantuan 1vs1-battle.

I believe that there is the same kind of respect between Serbia and Poland as there was between USA and Hungary during the late phases of WWIII and the campaign of Asia. Hardly ever can you see Poles and Serbians insulting each other or publishing deceitful propaganda. Both nations have adjusted themselves to being leaders and cooperation between them should not be hard. As Serbia has close relationships with Hungary and Macedonia already, the theoretical alliance of European superpowers is being built on a healthy ground.

Can united Europe conquer the entire world?

Eastern Europe and Balkan area has the biggest concentration of battles per square mile. Hundreds of battles have been witnessed in the eternal wars between Serbia and Croatia and Romania and Hungary, but the emerging superalliance would extinguish these raging flames of war and bring peace to this war-ridden region. If PANAM decides to be a regional alliance and stay out of Europe’s business unless there are interests to protect, Romania will find themselves from a very lonely position. If Croatia can put aside their friendship with Romania and join the superalliance with Poland, even the entire rest of the world couldn’t save Romania. If Romania falls, the rest of Europe will fall as well. The remnants of Phoenix can’t organize in to a fighting force strong enough to stop the menace that is High5 from laying foot on whatever they want. The combined populations of Serbia, Poland, Turkey, Hungary and Croatia are over 30% of the entire population of eRepublik, and these 5 nations inflicted 37,6% of all damage inflicted on day 1138. (stats taken from here.) Europe can’t resist this kind of force for long, and the Eastern superalliance will look for new challenges. They will set their aim on us.

A war between Europe and America.

If this nearly unbeatable force will be formed, it is only a matter of time before they will come to us, perhaps the only other decently working alliance. USA is a popular target because of real life, because of the wars we’ve fought against Serbia and Hungary and because everybody wants to re-enact the best 100 days of this game, the days of WWIII.

The game is maybe drifting back to bipolarity, but the times of two alliances equal in power will be over. The “dream team” is a menacing force as they reside on a peaceful region and can control the many nations of Europe by either invading them or manipulating them with contracts in a bid to reach their true goals. If the superalliance is aiming to conquer the Americas, we are bound to muster nearly the entire rest of the world to defend alongside us in order to prevent from being invaded. If the superalliance is formed, we must start to form new friendships as quickly as possible and extend the role of PANAM from regional to global. Otherwise we will find ourselves from a very undesirable situation, as the bipolar world of tomorrow is going to be a battle of an overwhelming force and an underdog. I can’t see how we could live in coexistence with an alliance that can dominate their home continent and has all the abilities to extend their influence as far as they see fit.

Croatia decides – world holds its breath.

The greatest obstacle against the formation of the superalliance is the reluctance of Croatia to ally with their nemesis, Serbia. Unless Croatia forgets their disputes with Serbia, the dream team won’t be complete. The situation is extraordinary complicated as Croatia has both real life disputes and in game ones with Serbia. These two nations come close behind Hungary and Romania in having a long and destructive war spanning from V1 to this day in between them. Several of the greatest victories of Eden were attained on the fields of Slavonia and North West Croatia, which were popular targets for the feared double whammy of Serbia and Hungary. In Operation World in Flames, Croatia attacked both Serbia and Hungary, but failed and paid a hefty price on the final days of V1, when Serbia, Hungary and Slovenia invaded and endangered Croatia to a PTO, which however was evaded with substantial Eden help.

After all the hating, a part of the Croatian people and the congress can’t accept the attempts to sign a peace with Serbia and fight together in the future. Before the collapse of Phoenix, Croatia and Serbia started frail negotiations of peace, as the everlasting war doesn’t please the populations of either country. Serbia ravaged through Croatia and established a base in Slovenia, Upper Carniola which is a gateway to expand further in to Western Europe. The advance of Slovenia on Italy has raised speculations that Serbia might use the same route to reach Italian Abruzzo/Molise and Tuscany, where oil and saltpeter can be found. With a passage to Europe secured, Serbia sought a way out from the consuming and boring war with Croatia, and the Serbian congress passed a law that demised the natural enemy status aimed at Croatia. However, when it was Croatia’s turn to return the favor, a minority of the congress voted no, but as a 66% majority is needed to pass changes to Natural Enemy, the proposal failed. A Croatian attack on Serbian Vojvodina ensued, and a vote to return Croatia’s status as Natural enemy was ignited. The Serbian congress however voted “No” nearly unanimously, showing tolerance and allowing Croatia to have a proper public discussion regarding their future.

The Croats are strongly divided on the matter, which is natural as the life of Croatia has always revolved around the conflict with Serbia and survival from the more powerful attackers. Croatia has experienced multiple babybooms cashing in on the rivalry between them and Serbia, and many players have joined solely to help destroying their eastern neighbor. The majority of the congress and many writers of Croatia’s largest newspapers such as The Chronicles of Narnia support forgetting Serbia and moving on, while a minority of the congress strong enough to repeal the votes to change the national enemy and the most prominent candidate in the presidential elections, Asklepije, who has amassed a large front of parties to back him plead the Croatians to remember who have helped them survive through the tough times in the past and who have always tried to destroy them.

One staunch evidence of Croatians favoring to stay with their old allies instead of creating something new is a unofficial but ample referendum hosted by overk (translation needed) where the croatian public was offered several options to choose from. Almost 200 citizens replied, and the combined percentage of those who wanted a peace with Serbia was 44%. However, 42% of those who were in favor of signing a peace wanted it only if Serbia would limit their regions to their original ones, meaning they should give up the base in Slovenia, too. 56% were against signing peace and 35% were against signing peace with Serbia ever in any conditions. The Croatian people is quite adamant in opposing the idea of them and Serbia fighting together in the same alliance in the future, and they might express their feelings on the polls two days from now, voting Asklepije who has set invading Belgrade as his national goal.

If Croatia decides to stay out, the superalliance might still come true and take Macedonia in as a substitute. The alliance would still be incredibly strong but if they attempt anything sinister towards Croatia, Poland who are good friends with Croats might get pissed and put the alliance on shaky grounds. The possible loss of Croatia however is a setback for the attempts to create an European superalliance, and if the attempts fail completely, Europe might split up to 2-3 equally strong regional alliances, turning the old continent in to a war zone, but most likely sparing us from invasion. Another option is that both Eden and Phoenix, under a new name and banner, will conduct a cleansing, getting rid of the weak and useless nations and focusing more strictly to Europe, the home of the superpowers of both alliances.
