News of War and Buying Gold

The Admin team just [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-137221.html]released more information[/a] on the upcoming war module and has also decided to get into the virtual currency market. The idea of paid "Guardians" is going away and they have elaborated a bit more on how the mechanics of war will work. Not quite sure how I feel about the advent of a virtual currency market. They are putting this forth as their monetization strategy (or at least the start of it), and while it was inevitable especially watching the farming that happens in most MMOs I still don't know if offering external input into a closed, fragile market is a good idea. Lots of food for thought.


DeMs Get a New President

Benn Dover has apparently taken over as the new [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/press_release-10202.html]Democratic Party President[/a]. For a full listing of his views and goals you can check out his announcement. Congratulations to Benn and the best of luck to the DeMs in the future.


Backlash from the Banhammer

Historically any bans from eRepublik have been met with a generally good reception from the community (with the exception of God-King Dio and his fanatical followers). It seems that the most recent housecleaning has resulted in what would appear to be inaccurate bans and has [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-136372.html]launched an outcry[/a] from friends and associates of those who have been banned. As a large-scale website operator myself I can understand the necessity for bans and trying to automate security, however, especially at the beginning of designing the process I think a great deal of transparency and flexibility are also in order. Hope the admins get it all straightened out so there is minimal outcry in the future.


Facebook and Other External Growth Mechanisms

It seems that Facebook (among others) is a great way to continue to [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-136832.html]grow the eRepublik community[/a] and offer direction. There have been a couple of pushes towards this directed growth in the past and it seems that more are yet to come. Make sure you are supporting eRepublik in whatever community you happen to belong to in order to ensure continued growth.


Government Abstract

King Waseem has an interesting [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-132561.html]abstract on Government[/a] in general that is definitely worth a read. From the article: "First and foremost, government is civil service. It's an ideology, to devote your mind and energy to improving living and working conditions for your fellow countrymen. As a government official you are not important in who you are but in what you do. The ruler or leader of a government is not the whole of the government. It's a temporary position at most, regardless for how long. This goes for most of the top layer of government."

One of the earliest heavy-hitters in eRepublik, Platonic, has decided to start archiving some of his more influential and interesting forum posts. Free Market Party Mission Statement

The Free Market Party seems to be getting more organized by the minute.
