Transparency in Government

Day 298, 11:56 Published in USA USA by Lowell Kennedy

With the recent [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-635291.html]allegations[/a] surrounding Martin Sunter, secession, and defrauding the government, it has become apparent that there are changes that have become necessary in the eUS. The changes regard the way the government functions. Congress has been a rather insignificant institution of government in eRepublik. This may not be as much the case when V1 arrives. However until that time, the necessitated changes will need to reflect transparency in eUS government finances.

There should be a Government Accountability Office (i.e. GAO) that should report to the Speaker of the House and when requested by Congressmen, to Congress or the public. It could be a committee of Congressmen that keep track of the finances or it could be a paid position that the Speaker appoints. All government related transactions should be reported to the GAO. In this way, no one person can personally profit $5000 at the expense of the government. Additionally, this would serve as the first example of Congressional power being expanding beyond the established aspects of eRepublik.

It’s unfortunate that such a first would be necessary but unlike yesterday, there is a need for transparency in government today.
