It's an uncontested fact that most citizens can't say "NO" to gold.
Although citizens aren't constantly bombarded with money offers, sometimes an irresistible prospect presents itself. Maybe it's a retired ex-friend account, maybe it's a horny Lana on the training ground. A citizen may see it as once-in-a-lifetime occasion that might never be available again. Carpe diem, as they say.

Your foe is a superstar
Most have experienced at least one citizen who thrives on making you feel like crap. Constant fighting, mocking and squabbling in the right ratios is the best recipe for a headache. Cheating is a common escape from this artificial hell, and works better than aspirin.

Admins let it happen
Truth be told, sometimes admins are quick to forgive citizen for their unlawful behaviors.
Maybe it's the fear of being alone, or that they are simply the more merciful ones of the human species. Often admins might even blame themselves for gold buyer's infidelities, and take steps to improve their relationships. The fact that many citizens get away with multis might made admins happy in the future, by doing much-more-painful banhammer strikes.

Long-term elife have the annoying habit of making everything repetitive.
No longer concerned with keep staying fresh and update, Erepublik might lose the allure she once had. Citizens may simply not find her attractive anymore, and cheating can boost their performance level. This is probably why most high levels looks gorgeous.

Alas, after a long time together, erepublik citizens have lost the feelings they once had for her.
But the history has remained too much a part of you. Separating seems so painful, so radical that it's almost unbelievable. So instead of separating, you cheating to get 'new' elife gratification.
Most times this does not help matters, but only prolongs the inevitable breakup.

If you are cheating on your friend or spouse, it might be that you are dissatisfied or that you have issues that you should address.
