Tolerating the Intolerable

Day 581, 11:51 Published in Canada Canada by Chamrajnagar

This is my first article, just having turned level 8 this morning, so it will likely be brief.

There has been a lot of furor over the last few days, especially regarding COBRA and its threats to eCanada. There is no room for debate on that fact, with many scathing articles and forum posts designed to incite response. There have been some who have fallen victim to this provocation and even broken eRepublik rules just to back up their claims.

Enough I say! Enough with the petty name-calling, the baseless accusations, the slanderous comments. You can say that COBRA is going to derail our government, you can have your tabloids that think that COBRA is actually controlled by aliens, and AB is possessed by a 17th-century English playwright. However slanderous accusations designed to garner support for Congress elections are despicable in my book. In my opinion, Coke will always be better than Pepsi because their ads extol the virtues of Coke, while Pepsi's ads often rely on putting Coke down.

Before I get labelled as a CEP supporter and therefore ignored, let me say that I have yet to decide my political affiliation. In fact, personally I was swayed towards joining the CPP or even DAL. I think Jacobi is doing a great job, at least in comparison to all the history I've garnered in my last week and a half of lurking. However, in that week and a half of talking on IRC, trying to figure out the political scene, discovering who many of the key players are, and generally just getting accustomed to the game, I have only received one friend request. There was only one person that was willing to actively try and help me get my bearings, without me having to seek aid. That person also happened to be in CEP.

So yes, I do have a bias. Who doesn't? But I don't blindly follow what I'm told, or jump into action with incomplete data, and I'm a little disheartened at the number of people I've seen that do. I'm likely going to get into politics as soon as I can, but I still don't have all the information I need to determine where I'll hang my hat.

As I'm sure you're sick of my blathering by now, let me sum up by asking the media to restrain themselves. Writing passionate articles is important, but passion and spite are two distinct emotions. Why resort to name-calling? Who cares if they started it? I applaud Plugson and others who have managed to remain civil, while still creating works quite worthy of reading.

Until my second attempt at writing,
