Well said, I agree. I have been sniped from a BH when I had put up tons of damage and towards the end out of nowhere comes some guy sniping my BH, I think etiquette is necessary, if you clearly see some one has dropped the damage and they are fighting for the cause let them have it. Dropping 40,000 K damage does not give a person a right to that BH. It is when you drop 1,414,000 you have every right to keep it.

I have dropped over a million damage earning my BH only to be sniped out of the blue.

BH = morals and respect imho, to get a BH means you are dealing damage on your account and others should respect that, I do.

Your competitor was ridiculous. There is no way to "claim" a BH. And nobody can expect to get a BH with 800K ... most take over 1 million, and s sometimes much more.

If you want to protect a BH, you have to be ready to go full bore at the end of the battle. I have two. The second one I thought I could take it easily because the top fighter was 650K after 90 minutes. So I put down 950K. Then I looked again and saw a guy tanking hard almost to 950K ... so I started again. I ended with 1.2 million and he had just under a million. We friended and congratulated each other.

That statement is ignorant, don't speak on something you clearly know nothing about.

700-800k in the first mins, is claiming a BH. It's etiquette not to try in that battle and wait till the next or find another battle.

Hitting with bazookas in the last 10 mins is wrong, just like how people don't speak in ALL CAPS OUT OF ETIQUETTE, you shouldn't snipe with bazookas in the end if you didn't commit early to a battle.

Fight early and fight hard for your medals.

Bomb is right I did loose many BH but never gave up. I have 77 BH now and it was not easy but I have never whined when I lost one, I may have been a little pissed but like Bomb said, there will only be one winner.

Final note, if you want to keep your BH, better have your game on otherwise STFU.

It's just a matter of luck: if you find an "opponent" accommodating and helpful, you can make arrangements, and gain a BH with 800k, instead, if he's a moron (80% of the players) it's just war and waste of bazookas, energy bars, money and gold for both.

Only luck I say, only luck. And I can guarantee that super-tanks are usually more helpful than mediocre players, if a battle isn't important.

By quiet battle I was describing not a lot of fighting. It's kind of besides the point anyway. You won a BH with only 400k? Good for you. I recently lost an attempt while getting 1.4 Mil so consider yourself lucky. Most battles I see are 800k to 1.5 mil. Are you sympathizing with the other guy JRock?

From everything I've ever read on the subject from some of the top guns to your average player:

"If someone asks you not to take it are you obliged?"

^ It's fairly common practice to back off when asked, if for some reason you didn't already realize the other person was trying for it and that player has an established stake.

"My strategy was to go into a fight that had low activity."

^ That's also common practice, to try to find a battle in a smaller nation, during off hours preferably, that will require the least amount of damage to secure the BH.

The other player had obviously scouted out this battle prior to your arrival. The fact that you chose the same one shows that he knew what he was doing, had chosen wisely and had a good shot at a BH.

^ On average 800 to 900K is the recommended target to establish a foothold on a BH, so the player was on his way to a medal when you started, unless someone else sniped him.

"Immediate cries to stop ensued. I actually did not read them until I was done with my damage."

^ An indication of intent from the first player, with a request to allow them to continue, is also what is recommended in that situation. Although others say, that you shouldn't have to do that, that it goes without saying and should be understood by the second player.

Interesting that you label the subject of his pm's as cries and therefore not surprising that you read the content of them, only after you were done.

At that point, no explanations are necessary. Whether you were going for a hat trick to save yourself the extra effort, some resources and money or going for one BH makes no difference and is a moot point by then.

^ His effort was wasted, his resources and money are gone despite his immediate attempt to explain to you what he was trying to do, when it would have made a difference, to him at least.

^ Only you know the feeling in your gut so only you can decide that.

^ No analysis is necessary. He knows he was sniped. There's no need to change his strategy, as stated previously, you, yourself copied his strategy, therefore it was sound enough.

The only real variable was the mindset of whoever entered the battlefield after him. This is always unpredictable, sometimes the first player is lucky, sometimes not. In this case, while he gave it a shot, clearly he couldn't dissuade you from what you had set out to do, regardless of any unwritten rules.

But as a vet from 2009, I'm guessing you already knew all of this.

Myst thanks for your input although it does seem contradictory at times. Additionally this is the first I am hearing that people are generally giving away BH medals when someone apparently has staked claim to it. If this were the case, it seems like everyone would have BH medals now and that no battle would ever go over 800k damage per person. Is there a link to the rules of etiquette so it is clear to me as well as everyone else as to how you stake a "CLAIM"" on a BH medal? Can someone write one up? As I stated before, I have lost several attempts myself so I'd love to be able cite the article when I ask to win the medal since I dumped damage on it first and I am the weaker player. No forget it I'll suck it up and try again but also being mindful of those other people laying claim on it. Maybe we should petition the admin to have different BH medals for certain strength and rank levels? Not. This like all games I appreciate when the better player (or team) wins. When the day comes that the better football team doesn't win because the weaker team had already declared they wanted to win is the day I spend football Sundays doing something else. Too many people want to play "Tee Ball" and not keep score I guess.

Meh. I'm a straight up asshole. I don't equate how hard I'm going to go in a battle with a BH. I equate it in terms of how much damage I need to do to flip a wall, or bury it at the end. Idgaf about feelings, people or anything else that stands in between me and winning a mini, if I'm in supertank mode. I don't BH hunt for sport, my BHs come from entering a battle in decimation mode.

I get PMs all the time, but I tend to ignore them unless it's a friend or I'm just laying down damage to keep my timer rolling.

I've received angry e-mails from people who thought that they "owned" a BH, because they put down 500k at the beginning of a battle.

I've also put down 2 million damage fighting all through the battle, only to get sniped by an ally late in the battle. He had twice my strength, and could take the BH, so he did, because he could.

People who think there's an etiquette are delusional.

If you "wait your turn", you will never get a BH. Someone will always feel they are more deserving.than you.

This is a game, and if you don't like the rules, you shouldn't play. BH's go to whoever has the strength and the gold to take them.

To clarify, the 800K is the minimum to put up with any hope of having a stake in a mini re: a BH. Your sarcasm aside, you posted an article, “looking for answers”. I gave you mine, like it or not, it's not important.

LO, I wouldn't label you as an asshole, if while you were laying down a barrage of damage “in supertank / decimation mode”, as a side benefit of that, you won a BH. No doubt you've crushed a fair number of players while doing that but, as you say with regards to pm's, you back off if it's a friend or if you're just burning off time.

I suspect that if you saw a younger player going after his first BH, that he had a decent start on & he pm'ed you, you'd probably stop as well, or maybe not.

JBB, I'm surprised that anyone would pm you having put up only 500K, thinking they deserved the mini to continue trying for a BH. They must have been new to the game or hadn't asked anyone or someone misled them for the lulz. I've never seen anything less than 800K suggested, in any article, shout or on any board, to anyone asking questions.

^ While Jason, redbirdusa and Daniel Samarin referred to “etiquette” while BH hunting, I prefer to think of it in terms of “unwritten rules”, which is how I referred to it in my original response. Otherwise, as we all know, there are no rules and everyone can be as hardnosed as they want to be.

^ Yes, pretty much, although as evidenced even in this very small sample of players, there are exceptions, namely redbirdusa, Daniel Samarin, Mister Y and Liquid Oxygen. Sometimes, thanks to players like these, the unwritten rules win.
