600 days he lived, and now he is gone,

but never forgotten...

THIS WAS A MEMORIAL, that had a cash contribution to the community. It's a bit of a read. It's about an old player who left with a smile, not a rage-quit, and a wish that others benefit from his death. Now that's unusual.

Thursday, at about 4pm, I received an email from a fellow I had spoken with months ago. I don't actually remember the conversation (from months ago), honestly. But what he told me was that he was dying, and these were his final wishes...

"His name was William Ireland"

Born Day 382 - Died Day 982
Rest In Peace

He was eborn December 6, 2008, Day 382. He was ranked 576 in the nation. He was a level 10 Guru Harvester, a level 10 Helicopter veteran, and dies with 100 health and happiness. He was living in Polish California upon his death, and to my knowledge was always a United States citizen.

He had neither newspaper, nor any known political affiliation. In 600 days of gaming, he had accumulated just 23 friends, including Killing Time, Jewitt, Barroom Hero, and Blazix.

He was a successful businessman.

Today, William Ireland shows us he was a friend to all, with a penchant for laughing, and a great big heart...

The PM I received Thursday afternoon was this:

"Quitting the game. You're the last person who was nice to me. Enjoy the money. Enjoy the house. Spend 25% of it on something fun, or on a practical joke to make people laugh. The rest is yours to do with as you please. Remember, a nice word will get you further than a thousand words of hate."
~Goner

I replied (the specifics of which I wish to remain confidential) and included a request; that he tell me of his time in eRepublik so that I may properly honor his memory. I received no reply, nor any further communication.

I have a tear in my eye as I write this. That I was the last person who was kind to him, I truly hope was a reflection on his activity, rather than my demeanor. But can we all take this message at face value? Can we all try, just a little, to be kinder to one another?

I will tell you the Estate value exceeded 200 gold (I'm still adding it all up).

I have donated 20 gold to my party, The Nos. These guys I love, they are my buds and my brothers. A friendlier, more loyal group of people would be hard to find anywhere. We have always shared our wealth and our experiences, and continue to do so. We are a community, and we are close. We invite equally friendly gamers to join us and become part of a really neat small community within this game.

I have donated another 5g equally to the Feds, the UIP and SEES, because they have ran our members every election, an act of kindness which William would have liked to see more of. It isn’t much, but we owe them thanks and gratitude.

I have donated 35g to the NoS Militia, our slogan to be now and forever, “For William Ireland!” as we charge into battle.

And now, I will be donating 80 gold to the common community, because we’re all starving in this new economy. And he would expect nothing less of me.

These were the rules: If you posted “In memory of WmIreland I accept this gift”(or some such tribute which includes his name) as well as your vote number, I gave the first 200 posters $20 cash.

In all of this, we thank WmIreland. You will not be forgotten.
