The Turn of the Tide

Most of the strategically significant battles have gone in favor of E/B lately. Many people celebrated the victories. But there are many reasons that we need to treat these developments as milestones on the road, not as the destination.

If you look at the demographics of the countries aligned on both sides, PEACE is still a very dangerous enemy. The PEACE alliance is still larger in total population than E/B and has a strong baby boom happening due to strong press coverage of eRepublik in real life Serbia. If the USA does not continue to aggressively grow their population the Serbs could catch the USA in population and have very similar demographics a relatively short time.

We must also to be aware that defeat has motivations of its own. We cannot forget how having the eUSA nearly wiped from the map caused eAmericans to put aside their differences and work together toward regaining their regions. The recent defeats for PEACE will have a similar motivation for them, even though PEACE will have some difficulties before they repair the endemic problems in their structure and leadership. While PEACE is struggling a bit at the moment, they are likely to emerge as a leaner and more dangerous opponent in the future.

We also need to guard against our own satisfaction with success. This is not the time for E/B to become cocky or lose motivation. This is the most dangerous time possible for E/B. The inevitable reforms of PEACE and the coming changes to alliance costs will conspire to create a situation where the balance of power may shift again very quickly.

It is critical for the leadership of E/B to devise a way to keep the power of the alliance intact without maintaining as many mutual protection pacts (MPPs). So do not be alarmed when you hear talk about adding new countries to the Brolliance or changes in EDEN member states. These are a sign that our leadership is on top of the issues and they are working the problem. Hopefully they will seriously consider the strategic impacts of their decisions and not just the strength of friendships. Both EDEN and the Brolliance must emerge from this reformation with the ability to apply sufficient military power in the places where it is required.

Meanwhile, the effort to keep citizens active and progressing in eRepublik is critical. The USA and her allies must continue to improve infrastructure for training and strategic economic production. The lines of communication must be kept agile and manageable, while expanding to meet the needs of a growing population. Whatever effort PEACE might make to improve in these areas, E/B must surpass them.

We are at a fragile time. It would be easy to pat ourselves on the back and take a break to enjoy our victories. Certainly when the forces of E/B win a battle we can rejoice. We can celebrate for a few hours. Then we need to get back on focus and continue to work until PEACE has been utterly shattered. Do not take your foot from the neck of the beast until you are certain it is dead.
