The Strategy of War

Day 2,046, 09:54 Published in Switzerland Switzerland by sgtchewy

Sometimes when we go to fight I wonder how well we we've thought this out. I wonder if we could have planned it better. I think sometimes we just don't think through the strategy of war.

With war being so variable, often wining a single battle is enough to get a congress, or to hold off a potential country wiping battle long enough for allies to come and help (as unlikely as that is.)But for some reason we almost never have a plan for battle; we throw everything we have at them...in an uncoordinated jumble. I think we could have a better chance of winning the battle if we time it so that everyone attacked in the same battle, giving us the best possible chance of success. Just using the damage we have more efficiently can do wonders.

Mind you, this next war may have nothing of the kind come up, so don't assume we need to arrange a coordinated attack just yet. However I would like you to keep some things in mind, to give us the best possible chance at winning.

1. If we are winning a fight by more than 10%, do not fight anymore (except in the first 15 minutes of the battle). You can keep an eye on the battle and see if it dips below that point so you can fight then, but please don't waste unnecessary influence on a battle that we've already won.

2. Don't fight in a battle that we've already lost as well. Often times I've been tempted to see how much I can change the influence meter all by myself. The truth is, often you can't change it at all. If the other side is winning by 15% or more, please don't fight in this battle either, except if it is less than 15-30 minutes into battle. If the other side is winning by a large margin outside of the first couple of minutes, often it's too late to try to turn the tables. In a couple divisions it might be wise to check to see how many people have fought so far. Often you’ll get only a couple of fighters in those divisions, making it easy to influence the direction of the battle. The number of fighters can be estimated by checking the Top 5 statistics table.

3. I suppose that this should have been number one, but I’m really too lazy to change it. Keep up to date with our MoD, Kaad. He will tell you any info on the current war that you need to know. When the next attack will be, where it will be, and who is giving away supplies. If there ARE coordinated strikes they will also be in the loop about that. Another person to check with would be Trogdor but he is a busy guy so he might not have time to answer a lot of questions.

4. Save bazookas until closer to the end. Chances are that this is completely ridiculous advice that means nothing, as it requires us to win a battle by a lot. What I'm getting at here is very similar to guideline #1, I'm asking that you hold off on bazookaing at the start of battle so that we conserve bazookas. If you use every bazooka you have in the first 10 minutes, and the battle bar never really drops that far down, then you have wasted a bunch of bazookas that could have been used in another battle. However later in the battle, if it is close, break out the bazookas, when else are you going to have the chance?

5. Let’s face it. Bazookas are obsolete. They have been for some time. Even the boosters aren’t a match for the highest hitters out there. That’s why the ever gree—gracious admins created the rocket, and the weapon of mass destruction (not IRL, that would be scary.) These follow the same general rules as bazookas. Don’t use in the first 15 minutes, don’t ever use them when we are up by more than 2% in large scale wars or 5% in smaller scale ones, or if our enemies are up by a lot. Use your better judgement. Conservation is key for the WMDs, more so than rockets. There is only a limited supply of them, if I remember correctly, and they aren't perishable like rockets are. (You can have more than one of them, so a stockpile is possible, and you don’t lose damage potential by not throwing one that day.) Rockets or WMD, it doesn't matter. Bomb responsibly. 😉

6. Don’t forget to see if the battle is useless as well. Let’s say you’re down sixty or so to zero in the war, there is no reason you should ever waste your energy bars or WMDs on that. That specific part of the war is over. While it is theoretically possible that things could change and we could win, it is very unlikely indeed. Since there is probably nowhere better to waste your damage you can food fight, but do yourself a favor and save your energy bars.

I apologize for republishing this …again. I hate republishing stuff because I feel like that just means I've run out of good material. Whatever. After re-reading my article when Rican re-pubed it, I was shocked at how out of date it was. Thus this re-write was made. Sorry for forcing you to read this...again. *sigh*

There are exceptions to every guideline I just stated; as I will soon find out I’m sure, but in general following these rules will help Switzerland win our war. If you picked up on it I'm essentially just asking you not to be BH hunter for once and do what is best for Switzerland, and through it, no matter what it may seem like at the time, what is best for you. Thank You.
