The Problem With Buying Votes
sjohnfsdsxzzx
Today I would like to take some time to talk about something that I see as a bit of a problem in this game. That problem is: Vote buying (for both newspaper articles and elections)
Apparently since I left the game almost a year back, buying votes has become a new and popular way to increase your newspapers popularity. Now, of course, I know that this little article won't help change anything but I still strongly believe that it is important for us to voice our opinions, and I'm calling it like I see it.
Vote buying has unfairly given players who are richer and older an advantage in popularizing their articles. Players who have been in the game a long time and accumulated a large amount of wealth can easily buy votes, as can a player who IRL has a large disposable income that they decide to (who knows why) waste on this game for gold.
Poorer and newer players are at an unfair disadvantage to make the top 5 articles and to gain a wider audience. Often times these players actually have good quality articles and great writing, which are buried under articles that have been voted into the top five through the use of players buying votes.
The other problem I really don’t like, at all, is the use of payments to obtain voters to be voted into congress. Paying potential voters money to cover moving expenses to vote for you is good and all but when it comes to actually rewarding people more money than this, it is unfair to those candidates that don’t buy people’s votes and those who don’t have the money to buy potential voters.
Being voted into congress should be based on ideas for how to improve the country, experience, political platforms, and reaching out to potential voters. Elections should not be based on who can spend the most money buying voters. Take the example of recently elected congressman Zeng999, who, while doing a good job to reach out to potential voters, offered 2000 USD to citizens for their vote. If I had run against him how could I hope to compete against him when I barely make 200 USD a day? Even if he doesn't pay the lure of money motivates people to vote for him.
This system of electing congress members we have now favors those who can spend money buying their votes, in other words the rich. In my opinion everybody should have a fair and equal chance to enter congress, including those who are too poor to spend money for buying votes.
This shouldn’t be a government by the rich for the rich; it should be a government by the people for the people.

great article
it's a crime called electoral fraud and it kills democracy, makes the game even less fun especially for those who might want merit- or effort-based presentations/campaigns, and it keeps dishonest players in the game.
it's a long growing problem, because too often it opens the door for enemies to gain citizenship and exacerbate the problem at the next elections.
seems to be the solutions are to stop playing, or to have very low expectations of this game (all aspects of it)
Another problem that contributes to this electoral fraud is apathetic citizens who sacrifice their right to elect trustworthy congressmen in exchange for money, these rather earn a couple hundred usd instead of helping the eUSA

I've bought votes for articles that I've wanted to be seen. The fact that it is being done forced me into that situation. On the flip side of that, I don't care for swapping subs or buying them. If someone wants to sub me fine but I don't want an inflated sub count, 5 gold is not that important to me.
Buying a vote to get elected is wrong in my opinion. I understand the argument of those that shout "game mechanics" and do not discount their point. But just like subs, if I can't get elected ..
... by people who want me in Congress then so be it.
voted.
yep.. yep.all manner of cheating has become so commonplace. it's disgraceful-- but those who do it don't understand the concept of disgrace.
I don't see the problem with buying votes for articles. After all, you're really only paying for advertising, which is pretty well accepted in the world as far as I know. More votes means greater audience that will see your work. If you think it's unfair, then Capitalism isn't for you.

than all I have to say is:
Communism FTW!
no in all seriousness I don't have a huge problem with the newspaper buying although I'd rather the newspaper articles get votes depending on quality rather than money but I have a strong dissaproval for buying election votes
You don;t have to buy votes in a election to win. Some people do it just because they don;t want to put in the work to get votes through your values and who you are instead they'd rather take the easy road and spend money which is disgraceful in my opinion.
