The Political Pitfalls of Apathy

Day 1,904, 14:32 Published in Canada Canada by Quim B. Muffins

Well here were eCanada, about to possibly elect a multi for President. How could this happen? How, in a country as politically astute as eCanada, could we find ourselves so apathetic, so convinced that one candidate was going to win, that a brainfart by the presumptuous winner, would plunge a lulzy multi and eCanada’s greatest villain into a two-horse-race that neither of them expected to be in?

Apathy, sure, that’s the easy answer. eCanada’s 2nd largest party couldn’t even find a suitable candidate to run against Rylde. Jaffle is a nice enough guy, but everyone knew we wasn’t CP material. Rylde, the fella that was supposed to cakewalk to victory (you know because eCanadains love being on the verge of wipe, weee!), got so caught up in his silly (there, I said it) eWedding with Mary Chan that he temporarily forgot game mechanics. The story is that he quit his party to go snoop on some other parties and well, his candidacy was deleted. Here’s the kicker, he did so past the time limit, and his PP couldn’t reinstate his candidacy. *facepalm* D’oh! So no Rylde on the ballot. Who was left? Colonel Sanders, Rolo, WMZMoney and James R. Bond.

Let’s start with Colonel Sanders and I will use plain language so that the conspiracy theory nuts will understand. Colonel Sanders is a multi. Venoms III’s multi to be exact. Hat tip to Venom III for winning the CW and IPC CP nomination. You pulled off one of the greatest lulz coups ever. If only it could have been revealed, say after Rylde was re-elected, that CW/IPC lashed their CP hopes on a lulzy multi, that would have been fecking awesome... but no, because of Rylde’s brainfart and Rolo’s decision to make a lulzy run for CP (basically to bust Rolo’s balls) the truth had to come forward before the election was decided. Why? Because there are responsible members in the MDP and beyond that could not allow a multi to run for CP without the people of eCanada knowing the truth. Hat tip to the honest folks that came forward and owned up to who Colonel Sanders. Hell, hat tip to Venoms III, for admitting that Sanders was his multi and reporting it to Admin.

But shame on Clan Wolf, especially its leader for blindly supporting a multi. To hell with the democratic process or the primary system. Venoms III broke it. This was not a conspiracy to get Rolo elected as oinyo has inferred. This was the damning of Clan Wolf and to a lesser extent the IPC, who were clinging to their choice up to last night, but haven’t been nearly as vocal in the media trying to defend it. No matter who wins this election, oinyo and Clan Wolf are decidedly the losers.

Rolo. Love him or hate him, he sure added a spark to what was looking like a yawner of a CP election. Personally I have had some misgivings about supporting Rolo. I don’t like the idea that he has been branded a thief. I can’t condone the actions of his past (most of us weren’t around at the time, but still), that said, he is a fine player. He knows this game better than pretty much anyone else and he has been President 2 other times. He isn’t a noob, or a 2 clicker like the other lesser-known candidates WMZ and Bond. He gets my vote, because he is clearly the only candidate prepared for the job.

So here we are, mired in a mess of our own making. Had there been any real opposition, say from the CPF, to Rylde’s candidacy, had this CP election been an engaging one from the start, maybe there’d have been an intriguing 2nd option, an easy second choice. But no, eCanada’s largest opposition party decided to sit this one out. Its number 3 and 4 parties’ blind allegiance to the ‘rules’ saw them get duped into picking a multi/lulz candidate. We are thus left with only one choice, Rolo, who gawd love him, is such a polarizing figure that he can’t seem to garner enough support to beat a soon to be perma-banned multi. Ye gad, I am disappointed in us all today, it shouldn’t have come to this, we’re better than this. My only hope is that we learn from this. Down with apathy, up with political involvement. Lulz politics is fun as distraction, but damn it, it can’t win the day, especially if it wasn’t even trying.

Sigh. That’s all I’ve got.
