The plan worked exactly as I hoped for

Day 894, 00:37 Published in Croatia Finland by avec

I see a lot of ”EDEN fail” and ”Phoenix fail” articles in the media. Victories are being cheered, while losses are taunted. Armchair strategists talk about general EDEN strategy sucking at one point, and one point they praise how well it turned out to work. There's an attitude behind this set of min😛 people have expected war campaigns to be swift and decisive, clearly linear and progressing from an objective to objective. That's a completely wrong way to think in a larger context.

I pondered for a long time the problems EDEN was facing. I've been involved with EDEN since summer, and I saw the first steps of the alliance. I witnessed the creation of TAF and EMC, and I was a part of the war machine EDEN had managed to create. It was a marvellous design, and I regretted it for disbanding. I wanted to return EDEN back to its former glory, and people placed a lot of faith in me to achieve it.

The first few weeks I mostly concentrated on getting a grasp of everything and trying to think of a strategy to get the basic functions like TAF and EMC working again. We held meetings with member countries where everyone expressed their opinions on varying matters, and we tried to come up with common goals which would satisfy everyone. The first few plans were simply bad. EDEN had been drawn into fighting solo wars via single countries, wars like the ones in France, Germany and the UK. Another such war campaigns were already being planned, while at the same time we were more or less forced to defend Polish or Spanish regions in Europe against Phoenix assaults. We lacked initiative, and a way to break the cycle.

Operation World in Flames: a quest to unite EDEN

Then, after reading all over the war plans that had been sketched in varying parts of the world, it occurred to me: why not start them all at once? Each country wanted war, while all agreed on setting a general goal for all of EDEN. It was also agreed that neither China nor USA was strong enough to win against Hungary or Serbia in a 1vs1 fight. So, to provide everyone fun, I made a plan which I called World in Flames: a multi-pronged attack on Hungarian soil while USA and China go for LK and HK. Everything was meant to start at the exact same minute, with world-wide distraction and drain battles going on. The plan was met with highly positive sentiment. A vote was held whether we start the campaign or not, and it received a stunning majority.

Then, began the hard part. USA refused to declare war on Serbia, and refused to commit to attacking Liaoning or Heilongjiang. Presidents changed in between, and it took time to get everyone on board again for what was discussed last month. There were those debacles about negotiations with Phoenix, all which only served to weaken EDEN and strengthen Phoenix stance.

A note: Yes, I'm releasing this information now that a grander plan existed for EDEN. I don't think it was a secret at all to Phoenix either, and after reading the latest Erepublik Insider article, it sai😛

”It all started Wednesday with Hungary attacking Croatia, that attack had delayed Eden's (one of the main eRepublik Alliances) plans for a simultaneous attack over some vital high-regions of Phoenix (the other main Alliance).”

That's so clear hint to World in Flames, that even without any intel reports I would be willing to bet the plan was leaked (even admins knew about it!). That I don't know did the plan inspire Phoenix, but then they started their own World in Flames campaign in Europe by launching diversionary attacks on Croatia, while Slovenia pushed for Rhone Alps, along with Russia coming for Berlin through Poland, and Spain suffering RWs which would cut Poland's passage to South America. That day was the time we decided to enact World in Flames to an extent - it didn't work out how it was originally planned, and mistakes were made, but in the end it didn't matter. I never expected the push for Hungarian cores to succeed, or vice versa, only some fronts I expected to fare, while others would have to be abandoned.

A lot of people didn't understand the mindset behind this plan. I tried to elaborate it in an earlier article, and mihail.cazacu has written the basic fundamentals of warfare in his newspaper

(I'd write them here but why bother duplicating.)

And what has been gained so far? EDEN united, striving to fight for a single goal. The next big conflict after World War 3 has started, all countries are working together. People are having fun again, new generation of leaders, strategists, soldiers and commanders can show their talents. This was the exact effect I was hoping for, and while some days ended in tactical failures, it's unimportant in the long run. Some battles we win, some we lose. That's how it is.
