The PEACE Charter
Cocoamok
Yesterday, day 730, the congress decided to vote no against the new charter for PEACE.
This charter there had been working on for quite some time and was available for all congress members. It was said (although in a private forum for congress members) to the congress members that voting no would mean that we would leave PEACE, the alliance from which we were a member and a founding nation.
A lot were in favour of this charter. Our ex president ArtemIvanov even said that the charter was against our national interest, but he was in favour of this charter. I have asked some arguments to vote in favour. But except that we should stick with PEACE and not leave are friends in PEACE alone, I could not find anything.
I have read this charter and voted no on this charter. It was not good enough.
My main objection is that it will be extreme difficult to have military ties with nations outside PEACE. We have those ties now. We need them maybe for training wars and to have a strong ally on our side. Other things are that it is not based on trust, but on rules and that it has differences between full members and defensive members.
Defensive only?
Some other thing is that eRepublik needs war. Training war or war games are dull. When all decide to be defensive (as in real life hopefully one day will happen), eRepublikan life will be boring and economics will go down. It is a game that needs excitement, victories and losses. We need to give respect for enemies and friends.
I could not agree on this charter. Our president ThomasRED from BP, our prime minister Olv007 from BP, Secretary of MoFA Trinc from GLD and High commissioner in charge of Belgian affairs DanielB1989 from I&W, all well informed on the international field and from different parties voted against this charter, like I did too.
Congress said no
All together 7 voted in favour of this charter, mainly because they wanted to stay in PEACE, not because they liked the charter that much. And 11 voted against it (and some more against it after the 24 hours of voting were over).
Some people talk about sheep voters and about congress members did not have information at all. I publish a sentence from our private congress debate area:
"If the result is NO, the eUNL will leave PEACE GC." So I do think the congress members knew that. The charter was made public before the vote.
New alliances
We will not be alone. There are talks on new alliances and we have our befriended nations. Our enemies will try to convince us to switch sides, so they will not attack fast I think. We had no guaranteed support from our allies in PEACE for months.
I have seen on PEACE Forum the list of nations that want to work further in/on PEACE.
I missed a lot of those nations giving any support to our nation when we asked for it in Flanders (when we got from Hungary support) neither in Wallonia/Brussels last time. We got big support from nations like France, Germany and UK. But also from nations like Russia and Serbia that left PEACE. The attack from Hungary on Slovakia (whatever you think about that) distracted some fighters from Romania. Without these combined support we would have lost Wallonia too. What is left in PEACE is not able to fight of a next attack of Romania on Wallonia. We will need more support. Support that is in the charter difficult for full members and impossible for defensive members.
Democracy
It is sad that almost none information on the possibilities for alliances are public, but when public chances for alternatives would be zero.
I think a lot of overreaction to what is happening is being put in the media, IRC and the congress. In time we can find answers, new alliance or joining PEACE when their charter is improved. For the time being we must support our befriended nations. Enemies you can make fast, getting friends takes a long time.
The future
We must not be that conservative, old PEACE is gone months ago. We need to focus on the future. Seeking possibilities and trying to improve our nation.
I think we can, do you think so too?
Please vote this article on the lottery to get more gold to our nation and buy some tickets.

Another step on the road to collapse...
Imo still = bullshit
Hear, hear!
We got big support from nations like France, Germany and UK.
Funny they and Brazil and Portugal (who seem to be forgotten) are still in PEACE.
And on the subject of not being able to sign MPP's with people outside of PEACE we have never done this in the past and with an MPP costing 100 gold we will never do this in the future.
We could have stayed in PEACE and left after a better alliance presented itself. Now we are alone and we burned our bridges behind us. If a PEACE country is now attacked and we get a RW in Wallonia who will these countries help? Not us but the PEACE country leaving us alone!!!
Because I am a ex-Defence men, I would like to react on your point of defence.
We have been longer as a year in an defensive alliance, I cant say that I had nothing to do.
Thats all, I am sure you understand me.
Again the question, that still is not answere😛
Why trowing away your old shoes, before you have bought new ones?
Cocoamok you voted no because you did not agree with the charter. Look at Japan. They said they did not agree with the charter but decided to remain in the alliance and to work on it to be better.
Who knows maybe the curent charter is good for a restructuring. We Need PEACE and despite everything else we have never been one to instigate wars. For us this is pure defensive.
I would like to reiterate that we should have voted yes for the charter and let the next congress that represents the views of all our citizens and discuss our options.
If we stayed with peace then would could always feel free to leave.
As stated above we have burned our bridges and now are on the verge of losing Wallonia.
I agree with above comments. Why is a "no" a no against peace? Why cant it just be. Review the charter?
So yes... bad vote i hope you are willing to bear the results of your actions.
Don't be too pessimistic, Wallonia isn't lost😁. Romanian are in trouble too atm.
For the rest, I trust the government and I am almost sure that they'll find another alliance.
What are you thinking EDEN??
Why abandon something with no alternative...
I want to stay in PEACE.
+1 Jofroi! We are strong, we have friends, why the pessimism?
"We could have stayed in PEACE and left after a better alliance presented itself. Now we are alone and we burned our bridges behind us"
Good comment from Mitch Rapp, I agree.
funny that the congress and the government decide that a NO vote on a charter is the same as leaving PEACE..
This is no the way we should do things in the UNL, i feel it's time for a new government and congress.
you won't stay alone. Russia will be with you. And your friends won't leave you in any case.
it doesn't matter are you in PEACE or not.
I don't agree that voting a no against the charter shud be a no against PEACE. But then again, I am not realy up to date with all the info. I'll publish an article this weekend (ministry of Spam) along with boklevski that will reflect our oppinions.
Corrected the position of Trinc in my article. He is Secretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Chief Ambassador for the United Netherlands is Garmr. Sorry!
its a good thing the netherlands and ireland didnt think the same thing when they voted against the european treaty ... they didnt leave the EU ...
though in this case its all a pretty even chance ... stay in peace and get attacked by eden just for that, or leave and fend for yourself against anyone feeling like attacking us, but actually lowering chances of eden attack. Only the furute will tell us what would have been the better choice. Lets hope a better alternative pops up real soon.
