The Official Workers' Party Election Programme

Day 916, 02:57 Published in Netherlands Switzerland by Pierre Delvaux

As you know, The Workers' Party recently entered the Top 5, and, as a result, will tomorrow contest Congressional elections for the first time. We are running a small number of candidates, as part of our drive to elect a conscience, rather than a government. I hope that those on the left-wing of the political spectrum will come out to support us. Below is our programme, which all of our candidates have agreed to support.

I am pleased to present The Workers' Party Programme for the upcoming elections.

The Workers' Party (WP) programme for the May Congressional elections has been developed in accordance with the Party Charter (see: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the ... 17777/1/20).

We present ourselves to the voters with 2 principles and 3 policies.

Principles

1. We believe that there is a need to balance public good and private profit, and that there is insufficient attention paid to those at the sharp end of this relationship in the eUNL. Young, low-paid and inexperienced citizens need more support in our society, and the WP contends that the established parties have persistently failed to provide it. The WP seeks to redress this balance, and further pledges to establish a co-operative company in order to demonstrate that an alternative economic model is feasible.

2. We believe that there is a growing and worrying trend towards militarisation and imperialism in the eWorld. Whilst this is a consequence of the dynamics of the game, we argue that it is possible and desirable to organise the international system along more peaceable lines.

In order to advance these principles, we propose the following policies.

Policies

1. We want an immediate increase in the minimum wage to 6NLG, and the establishment of a Ministry of Labour (MoL). The repeated reductions in the minimum wage in recent months have had a negative material and psychological effect on new players, and both the nation and the economy would benefit from the adoption of a more respectful approach. With a marginally improved salary, workers would be able to buy Q3 food, keep their wellness up, and become productive members of society. The MoL would be responsible for the safeguarding of workers' rights, and overseeing the development of successor legislation to the Collective Labour Agreement.

2. We support the development of the ENTENTE alliance as a trans-national, non-aggressive, and anti-imperialistic union of nations, as a means of distancing ourselves from the increasingly morally bankrupt Phoenix/EDEN dichotomy that blights the eWorld. Whilst we acknowledge the pragmatic rationale for remaining in Phoenix in the immediate term, we pledge to work to create an alternative option for our nation and her neighbours. WP members may become conscientious objectors to military service in order to demonstrate their commitment to a less violent world order.

3. We oppose the recent moves to transform our system of government from a Congressional model to one built on Presidential power. The Congressional model allows for a range of opinions to be heard and taken seriously, and for all sectors of society to potentially have a voice in coalition governments. The Presidential model, however, diminishes this diversity, and trends towards authoritarianism, especially in a political framework such as our own, where one party plays a dominant role in all levels of administration.
