The next step

”I cannot be felt, seen or touched,
Yet I can be found in everybody,
My existence is always in debate,
Yet I have my own style of music.”

The riddle above somehow describes my quest for a meaning in this game. I've asked myself the same question for over a year now, and till now, I've always found some goal to pursue, a meaning to have. I've been silent in the in-game media for months now, and I haven't even played the game actively after summer. This has actually several reasons, but throughout that time, I've been thinking of this question about meaning of my eLife, and questioned the motive to continue playing. Well, suffice to say, I might have come up with a solution. It might touch your life too, so please continue reading.

The first time I questioned the meaning of my life in this game was when I quit my military career and pondered what to do next. The world was open for me, full of options to choose from. Back then the choice was easy though. I had lived a life in the military, and transition into politics was easy.

The second time I questioned my future in the game was after I had achieved presidency and my term was over - what to do next? It felt like I had nothing left to pursue, as every goal offered by the game was achieved.

This is the third time I'm looking for a meaning. To illustrate my case, let's look at what people would usually offer.

Choices in eRepublik

"Apply for military, get assigned to a unit, get promoted to a squad leader, later you might become a commander and maybe even Minister of Defence."

Military, place where you can protect and serve.

Wait, I did all that. Well then, how about a life in politics:

"Run for congress. Become a Minister, engage in political debate. Finally, run for President and get elected."

The wonders of party politics, heated debate and constant turmoil.

Hmm, did that too. This is where most people actually stop. Presidency is the ultimate goal for politicians in eRepublik, and few people see anything higher to pursue. Those well educated enough would propose trying to get into alliance-level position after having a well-accomplished career in politics. This sounds great, being a Supreme Commander of an alliance would indeed be a goal worth pursuing for.

OH WAIT.

I did that too. What is there left for me? I've achieved every position this game has to offer, both in-game and off-game. This is my enigma. What does a man have left in his life when he has achieved everything worth pursuing for? I've pondered this for a long time now. I've come up with several scenarios for my eLife, most of which are simply repetitions of the old cycle. But, it occurred to me that, maybe the way of thinking itself in this instance is false. Why try find a goal to pursue after you have achieved everything? This is plain stupid. So, what my solution is?

That I won't tell.

It's good to be back.
