The IRC Issue – The CPs views

Day 827, 14:00 Published in South Africa South Africa by eSouth African Presidency

IRC has been a big issue in this country at the moment. It has really reached a boiling point and I am tired of seeing anything about it. People will say that articles like this about IRC should not be published, but that only seems to apply to the IRC subject matter and nothing else. The ingame publishing system is here to raise issues, it has a comment section to debate issues and this belongs on here as much as it does the National Forum.

I am not going to sit here and present logs. I think that has been done to death and in the end it proves nothing.

People will come out and say that I have defended Frank in the recent IRC events involving him. I was there when that happened. All that I will say here is that at the moment when Frank was chased out of the IRC room, he had done nothing wrong. People can have what ever opinion they want of Frank, and I will admit that Frank has had his problems in this country. He is a loyal friend and I am able to look past many of the Frankisms that he portrays. He is a man that I trust, and I don’t really care about what anyone thinks of him. I am loyal to my friends.

I was just in the IRC and I watched a massive conversation about communism. This conversation went on for a long time. Now apparently there is a no Politics rule in place on the channel, yet this was allowed to happen. This type of “kick when the mood takes us” attitude is what is causing the problems we are now having.

So, where do we go from here? How do we fix the rift that has happened? I really don’t know. I know that if I get involved things happen, threats happen and I have even been told that the IRC is none of my business. I have been mocked and told “what you going to do about it”.

So this is all I can do. I can suggest (note that word) that we implement the following.

- A section on the forum where a ban can be appealed.
- A set of IRC rules/guidelines that will be enforced in a liberal manner.
- A clear, set out time for bans. Different offenses could carry different durations.

So, am I as president of this country asking for too much here? Are these suggestions not reasonable? Let me know.
