Just 2 days ago saw the local elections. This brings forward a new term, new challenges and most importantly, a new mayor of London - AngelFeather. Although I am pretty shocked myself, I hope that AngelFeather will be able to continue the great works of past London mayors.

In this article, I will be detailing my thoughts on the future of London, as well as the current problems and the organisations that have been set up to solve them. Having been London Councillor for 2 months and mayor of London for a month, I belive that I have the most knowledge regarding London today.

A call to the Mayor

There was controversy regarding AngelFeather's election 2 days ago, and many believe that TUP should not have fielded such a candidate. My biggest issue however is the lack of a manifesto or any clear direction from the new mayor about London. London is a big city, filled with people who need support, help and direction in E-republik and within the E-uk. How will these be dealt with? I call for AngelFeather to give us a manifesto or some sort of press article about these issues - it is crucial that we have some sort of communication between London citizens and the mayor.

The London Council

The London Council was first set-up by Piperbunny during her mandate as mayor of London, and has been the pinnacle of NHS welfare, dedicated to finding citizens that need gifting. The Council I believe must continue to help London, or we will find it rapidly depleated of hard-working citizens, and a general loss of productivity in London. Although I myself am contemplating whether I should stay in the Council, AngelFeather must take the London Council and lead it, assigning trustworthy, hard-working Councillors to assist.

If you want to be a part of the London Council, please pm the London Council on http://www.erepublik.com/profile-392482.html.

London Citizenship

I set up London Citizenship a few days before the election, hoping to build upon its gains during my next mandate. Since this is not the case, I call AngelFeather to continue London Citizenship. The main aim of London Citizenship is to make sure the ones who need gifting get it. Doing this saves time both for the Council and the Mayor, so they can get on with the job of running the city, instead of troughing through pages of information trying to find dying citizens.

Overpopulation - Transport for London

London continues to be the biggest city in the E-uk, having 4 times the population of the next biggest city. This causes problems, both for the welfare scheme and for the population in the other regions in the E-uk. Transport for London was the head SO I created to front the migration scheme, the idea to move active citizens from London to the least populated regions, hoping not only to reduce the burden on welfare in London, but to increase activity in the lesser regions. Although this scheme has been successful - nearly 40 citizens have been happily moved - the population of London has continued to boom.

It is imperative that Transport for London continues to for London and the E-uk. If you want to learn more about TfL, go on http://www.erepublik.com/article-485811.html.

London Culture

London is a silent, lonely place if recent events are anything to go by. Despite various competitions that I and Piperbunny have set up over the past few months, there has been not one competitior! I call on London if it is to remain the capital of London to join in the competitions, and to be active in the forums! I also call for London to set-up a London based Editors Assocation. Too many good stories in London are lost on the news feed thanks to it being outvoted by other articles. London should have a group of editors who select the best articles in London and publish the links to these in one news article every week. That way, the ctiizens remain informed, editors get credit for truely great articles, and London establishes itself as the front-runner in editorial skill.

London - secretly a dead city?

Over the past month in which I have been mayor, I've had several suspicisions that London isn't as strong as it once was. It is my opinion that London has become the capital of dying accounts, one-time players, SOs and, most distubingly, multis. London is the capital of SOs - there are at least 20 within London, and 2 just for London's welfare itself. If you wanted to create a multi, the best place to hide it would be in a large city, where its harder to track them down. The obvious choice? London. This is a reason I introduced the London Citizenship scheme - to find out the true strength of London. However, a stonger crackdown on multis needs to be made. A complete sweep of every citizen in London should be conducted, pmed, and if they do not respond, be put on a probationary period, in which no employer should employ them. Hopefully with the coming of Version 1, a citizenship module will be introduced that will more effectively prevent multis. I hope however that my fears are unfounded.

Implications of version 1 for London?

Version 1 of E-republik has been on the cards for some time now, and it's hard to imagine the exact impact this will have on London. However, suffice to say that we need to be prepared, and be on our toes for what changes may come. It is imperative to remain flexible when the time comes.

What do I do from now?

This has been a question that's been on my mind for the past two days now. I've lost the London mandate, and I still do not know why. I would ask any person who did not vote for me to tell me what I did wrong in London. I apologise to all those that voted for me - I failed you in not winning this election, and have let you down. Nevertheless, I will continue to do my best for London, and will run what schemes I can to assist it. This isn't the end of Stan Wephen in London - this is just the next chapter of history.
