The eJapan's Forum Index : «Error Server 500» aka «Blank Page Syndrome» !

Hi, eJapan, it's Zodiarque!

Today I'm adressing to you as one of the "eJapan Official Forum Moderation Team" Staff. I'm writing this short article to answer the Private messages and IRC interpellations I and Squibeel have received during the past few days since the incident. Without further ado, let's attend the core issue.



1. The Index page of the eJapan Forum (See there)

Any «extra-eRepublik» active eCitizen of eJapan may have noticed it, the official forum seems to be currently unavailable. Well, this is evenutally only half true. As a matter of fact, only the Index page, aka the front page of the Forum, is crashing, resulting in your getting a blank page or an Error HTTP 500.

Unfortunately, we could not determine, by our own means, the origin of the problem and I take this opportunity to remind everyone this cannot be a flaw in our encoding skills as we don't have FTP access to the Forum. Therefore, as it seems an unaccountable issue that is completely beyong Moderation team's control, I've written a Support ticket to the hosting staff which is the following :
«Hi,
I'm co-administrator of the Forum «http://nippon.freeforums.org» whose Index page as been unavailable since today (Fri Aug 10, 2012).

All the rest of the Forum seems available via the portal as a "system D". When it first occurs, I was doing mere «Forum description boxes» edition when I suddenly was incapable of displaying the Index to look at the results... It seems that the problem doesn't come from Cookies nor Internet browser and everyone is having «Error HTTP 500 (Internal Server Error)» or simply a blank page.

I really thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

I can already tell that our request has been escalated by a Support staff for Admins to take a look at. It is said as currently being reviewed.

So far, we can assume that the following are not part of the cause to that unexpected misadventure :
× Unrefreshed cookies
× Internet browser
× New Forum style
× FTP mismanaged...

I personnally think this may be due to an error which would have crept when server rewriting the page after one of the numerous simultaneaous edit. Multiple editing of multiple elements in a same time, I don't know if this is possible but there may have been a crash somewhere when server edited the page...



2. The Index page replacement - System D (See there)

As you could read above, we have enabled the Portal system which still allow you to navigate in the Forum. Yet for thos who would have difficutlies managing this tool, I'll provide you here with a simili Index of the Forum, right here.

I hope this will help you go through this little issue. On behalf of Moderation team, I'd like to apologize again for any inconvenience this may have brought to you and ensure you that we are doing our best to get things back to normal.
