The Economist ~ Going shopping for companies this Christmas?

Sorry about this Sweden- it's more for the international readers 😛

Dear friends,

A very brief article today -the ones you like best. As some of you may know, I am in charge of citizenship approvals in the UK. When you apply for cs, you might end up pestering a congress member for approval, and they usually refer you to me.

One of the most frequent reasons people apply for citizenship is to take advantage of our stupidly cheap currency. GBP tends to go for about 1100=1g. Our brothers and sisters in Poland and Serbia are amongst the most common applicants, though there are others too.

Usually what happens here is that citizens in those countries slowly turn their own currency into gold, and then back into gbp. This results in a bit of loss for them, since they are relying on fluctuating markets at both ends. It also takes a long time.

I am pleased to announce the Bank of England is launching a new program whereby people who are moving to the UK to buy companies can swap currencies directly. At the minute we are offering 2:1 on PLN and RSD, but if people from other countries with only slighter cheaper currencies want to get involved they can too.

The old lady herself

So for example:

If you had 5000 PLN, you would send me a message, send the currency, and you would get 10,000 gbp back. Very large transactions would have to be discussed first.

We are doing this to build our foreign currency reserves and to make life easier for you guys. The UK operates companies in Serbia and Poland for the good bonuses there, and though most of the products come back to the UK for the army or whatever, we still need currency to pay workers. So it's two birds with one stone 🙂

thanks!

Iain

PS. If you want UK citizenship, you need to tell me:

1. Why you want it
2. Whether you intend to stay (if you do I need a bit more info)
3. If you're shopping how much you intend to spend

Also if you're from an EDEN country or you fight for them you have pretty much no chance of being approved legally.
