The Article That Must Be Written
Marcos Arolia
(This article is based on my own personal observations. None of my current positions have influenced these decisions. TL😉
R Stop expecting others to act; everyone that is able should and must act.)
I had copy/pasted an article with the few laws that have been passed and dismissed thus far as the Senate Speaker should do. As I collected the meagre sample, I could not help but glance at the eRepublik map and notice the obvious.
We are wiped again.
We certainly did better this time, of that nobody can doubt or refute. However, we have returned to a very familiar position that has been our national history. Of course, the difference is eNZ has joined us in this situation for the sake of fun.
That is the genesis of this article.
Allow me to ask this very important question: What is our purpose?
Those that say "Free Australia from Indo" speak the obvious, but then why do we not do the things that are needed to make that reality?
We lack military power.
We lack the use of the battle orders.
We lack leadership.
We lack weapon supplies.
We lack numbers.
From Brennan Shields' most recent article, he reveals some of the problems. I would like to add one:
There is no real vision.
The current national vision is to free ourselves from Indo domination, but many actions on all levels taken are clearly counterproductive or are taken without the required preparedness to make it successful. If we truely wish to be free, there is one obvious thing that needs to be done to make that reality.
Does it even need to be said?
Speaking of freedom is meaningless if we lack the manpower necessary to defend and maintain our borders. Almost nothing else matters. We may defend ourselves in the here and now, but it is irrelevant if we can't maintain any success. The alliance helped us; now we must help ourselves.
What can you do?
Be involved as much as you can. Bring in as many new citizens as you can. Do not expect others to do everything. Contribute however you can.
If there is no leadership, then the void must be filled by others. If there is no numbers, then numbers must be brought. Military power arrives with the numbers. Doing this helps you, me and the country. There are those that will say I am speaking too simply, that what I am saying has no merit. I say to them, "Doing something and failing is better than doing nothing at all."
To paraphrase and use a Yank saying,
BABYBOOM OR BUST

Voted. Nice article.
Probably old rhetoric to many, but I suppose I will try it again.
I'll start with an observation. We have 11 new citizens that joined today. Seems around the 8-12 mark usually is around normal. This is around 240 - 330 new citizens per month. Now, being cynical I shall assume half are multies (for the sake of argument). Leaves 120 - 165 per month.
If we could retain HALF of those, we would likely double our active population in 2-3 months. And this is conservative.
We have some great things like Centrelink and the like which help new folk. But, the greatest thing is connectivity. If people actually perhaps messaged new people, helped them 1:1 - even just talked it would go a long way.
For me the issue is not so much about baby booming in terms of getting friends to join. This has been discussed time and time again, as has attempts at adverts, forum rooms, pretty much everything.
I think we need to re-divert focus to trying to get those people who do go through the effort of signing up, and being friendly. It also means coming back to being a community and not having a new person's experience of here seeing all the infighting - people will immediately be put off, and I do believe eAus is a nastier place than many for that.
My view is DON'T try to hard to make a baby. ADOPT one. This is something each and every one of us can do. Just message 1 or 2 new people a week each. You come on here because it is multiplayer.
So, make a friend today. Check out http://www.erepublik.com/en/main/online-users/Australia/all/1 now and then, and if you see someone new just say g'day.
That's my vision take it or leave it 😛
I agree with you. However, both can be done at the same time. A babyboom would bring our allies to our defence immediately so we can nurture said babies so that they grow healthy and strong. It is the way that the successful booms have happened. This article was meant as a sort of call to arms to make this reality.
I am only one person. If everyone who can contributed, eAustralia would be a much better country than it is now.
Babybooms don't help us today. To get up to effective tank strength (e.g. 20k STR plus) that will take 222 days @ 90 STR/day on a standard fully improved training scheme. The player numbers in the context you're debating are only effective once they have become tanks.
They help us today with immediate damage and, if our allies care about future damage, their immediate help with damage and food/weapon donations. If more than a select few helped with this, we would benefit as a whole. We likely get damage from other sources now.
Doing anything is better than nothing.
I agree, there are some among us who need to become friendlier people, sure I understand that every Australian who has been here for even 3 months is disillusioned by many things but that can not possibly ever be the fault of a new rookie to our ranks. RB is right, we simply must retain more players, not see them run off because most of what they see in print is friction and name calling. indeed I myself should have just left after just a week after I had learned about our miserable history, instead I got angry and stayed.
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/there-is-hope-there-is-no-endless-occupation--2315929/1/20 A must read for all eAustralian's.
Easier said then done Arolia. :/
(There are those that will say I am speaking too simply, that what I am saying has no merit. I say to them, "Doing something and failing is better than doing nothing at all.")
Doing nothing means we fail without trying. We rarely try to do anything so nothing changes. If we want out freedom, then we must stop being hesitant in doing what we can to secure it. Increasing our numbers is the best way to do so. So that is what we have to do.
My friend, I have been in eAustralia a few years now. We've tried over and over to create some sort of a baby boom. Their has been numerous ideas that at the time seemed unstoppable but sadly like the rest have failed. My statement above was not stating we shouldn't try but actually the opposite. It is easier said then done, many people have said it and haven't done it. Hopefully we can do it this time, for the sake of this country.
This is just my observation, no more and no less. I have seen how other countries maintain FB pages and Twitter accounts, move through forums and bring others into the game. The difference between eAus and these other nations is that there is consistency that we lack and an unwillingness to push by many.
When is the last time we have attempted to bring players in for more than a month's time? Consistent effort must be applied both in-game and out of it if we are to have any chance of success. This is something I said more than a year ago as well.
I do believe now that the ground is fertile for such a boom due to a RL element that we have lacked in the past. I believe it can be done if we continue and not stop.
Great article. Voted.
Voted.
Babyboom for better future.
voted. I was a new player recently and I suppose I still am. The only time I ever received help was when I asked but most new players wont ask, they will leave. If this could be changed this country's population would soar through the roof
I apologise for not seeing you when you first registered. I usually help all of the babies I see, and I do miss some. I am human and am not always active in Aussie time after all.
Would you be willing to help do this?
I was not saying it as an insult. I would be more than willing to do anything I can to increase the population and activity
And I was not saying you insulted me mate 😛. I was apologising to you for that. I do ask again: would you be willing to spend some of your time in helping new players become acclimated to the game? Or however you would desire to help?
What I meant was There is no need to apologize. I would love to help in anyway I can. If you tell me something to do i'll do it
tbh, if you had read the CP letter when you arrived you would have registered on the google doc and i would have messaged you that day. We cant help people who dont want to read, in a game that requires reading
Except it's broken. Which is why we're replacing it as we speak.
could only have been broken for a week... last person on the list is only a week old
I had sent a message back asking a direct question and received no reply
Meant the message in general.
and once again arolia... the link to register your name in the google doc is on the CP message, and the last person on it is a week old so it was working on the 1st sept.
Are you sure you never got anything from Centrelink/JDS?
I got something from centrelink 3 times 2 days after I started. But I am not complaining. There is no way the government can keep track on every single new player. But what I am saying is that EVERYBODY should HELP the government and just say g'day or something
Yeah the problem is if we don't see new players online then we rely on stat sites like egov4you and they are two days behind sadly.
not from me. Your name isnt listed on the google doc on 23 August, or anytime before or after so obviously did not register your name there for help.
eAus just has too much infighting; that's really all there is to it. Ego's on the left, Dick's on the right, here we are, stuck wiped in the middle again.
Too much public infighting unfortunately.
Public infighting just makes us look like dicks, the fact that it continues behind the scenes makes us useless... just my half a cent.
There will always be disagreements. That is unavoidable in any society, but we can do our best to have productive discussion.
Indeed. Unless things have changed when I wasn't looking, this never used to happen. Cept under you and Maj; we actually talked and discussed things then! It was unreal. Oh and Ranger, but everyone loves him.
And it wasnt even me this time 😉
Oats ah lah Layla.
Ghost is right, there's too much infighting. As a new player coming back after a 2 n 4yr hiatus the eAus community, seems... well less like a community. I remember (back in the good ol' days 😃) the game was more about fun, the enjoyment of battling and improving your companies till your were rich, and helping your mates get there too.
I've only been back a week or so, it was a bit overwhelming soo much has changed (I miss having work skills, lol) anyways only one said hi when I returned (Marcos Arolia), thanks for that by the way - It actually did keep me playing I probably would have stopped again by now otherwise. All I've seen since I've been back is blame being thrown everywhere, eAussie's fighting amongst themselves, calling each other shit, or blaming them as the reason this country is failing. Even in this comment section people were just being... shit.
Ps - Good article man, well written don't know if I agreed with everything, but darn fine article nonetheless.
Pss - Arolia, would love to help out - I'll pm you soon 🙂
That should say voted and a very Intelligent and witty couple of paragraphs agreeing with your sentiments...stupid fecking game didn't want to post it though.
Some of the paramilitary units should merge with a larger one.
It'd never happen, people are too happy with their own identity and no one wants to look after like 100 soldiers, too much effort than the 15 or 30 they are happy with.
People should learn to put others before themselves because if the whole nation suffers because they are being selfish it is not right.
Tell that to the people who've been playing this game for over 4 years. People don't change and Australia won't change. We're all too selfish to ever work together. Our country was PTOed by Indonesians and yet it drove the community apart instead of together. I'm not saying I don't want to it to happen, I do but sadly it will never happen.
Where is TWO? No help while you're wiped again?
Is it because the major nations need help more than eNZ and eAustralia.... me thinks so. God forbid a major power gets wiped, but who gives a flying fu*k if the little guys that support every order are wiped. Pretty much why I left TWO and eNZ... feel free to comment away... I won't read it anyway 😛
