The Alternative Elite
PilotPhil
So perhaps I found something to rant and rave about. Finally, something has me pissed off enough to write an article. As a wannabe member of the Alternative Elite (a new term coined by this gentleman) I have very much enjoyed the "conversation" that followed the article written by Jude Conners. Many of you have read it and if you haven't, you really should.
How long do all of us "regular" eAmericans have to put up with this crap? How long do we all pay insanely high taxes so a few at the top can fight their unjust wars? Apparently we have ten million dollars in the bank yet the ruling class elites can't see to unburden us AT ALL? We can't drop the tax rate any? Bul**hit! I don't expect living here to be free, I can pay my taxes like everyone else, but lets be reasonable.
A while back when new countries were announced, we at the Socialist Freedom Party had a discussion about all moving to Cuba. Many thought how nice it would be to not have the oppressive "leadership" of the country to contend with. How much easier it would be to take the whole party and lead a new country into a bright future. After some discussion, most (many?) of us decided our efforts were better spent fighting for change here. For the most part we all dig it here in America. We have great theme parks and cool mountains and lots of space and tons of places to get great soup.
We have a really cool flag and awesome beaches and even a few hot bartenders...
(of course I had to work that in somehow)
This place is great for the most part. What sucks is the leadership that would rather fight wars that enrichen a lucky few instead of cutting everyone a bit of a break. We have enough money in the bank now. If the evil Serbs try to take over Disneyland or chop down our flagpoles or kidnap Santa or whatever heinous acts their devious minds come up with, we can stop them. We will stop them. Period. No doubt in my mind.
Did anyone notice that Brazil got tired of our $hit and left? We were so busy killing beavers that we did nothing when they were in need. We just sat on our bloody, frozen, red white and blue toques and watched them get kicked around. We lost a good ally because we were too busy sniffing maple syrup and eating backbacon.
It is time for change. Question your leadership. Get angry. There are a few folks here that are getting tired of the status quo. Join us if you are ready for something different.
A shoutout for the Black Sheep for the upcoming elections as well!

Voted.
Good to see a new writer get busy writing.
It's a shame that a small circle of people have ruined the eUSA and reap the rewards of the spoils. But the tide is changing and will soon be a Sea of Change!
Or it will remain business as normal and players will continue to leave for other nations or even leave the game as a whole!
Yup, I see a whole lot of eAmericans applying to be in the new countries.
(;,,😉
Voted ofc 😉
good article, voted

Well spoken, Phil.
thanks, i do my best work shortly after happy hour
More voices of reason within the Elite States of America
Millions spent to keep a small country down unsuccessfully should anger you all
I know I'm not at all happy about the wasteful spending.
says crisfire, one of the more outspoken Canadians.
Hey maybe if the eUSA got non-psychotic leadership we wouldn't be looking forward to our alliance wiping you as much. With having to call in Chile against a country as small as Canada, you guys are kinda the laughing stock right now
You've elected Rylde Prime MInister 5 times and you complain the US leadership is mentally unstable?
Good luck selling that south of Vancouver.
Actually Yes, your current leadership is less mentally stable, and that SHOULD scare you!
All those beautiful tax dollars going towards a small nation of, at most, 900 people - and the real number of devotedly active people is probably a third of that. You should really be saving your money. Your occupation will fail, and Canada's allies will wipe you off the map.
In the mean time, I'm glad to hear some clear-headed words from Americans for once. Maybe you guys can escape your fate by electing this courageous, and wise, individuals. Or sabre-rattle until doomsday. Your decision.
I agree with the general sentiment expressed here by brother PrilotPhil. But I cringe at ad hominem attacks on Kemal who, in former days, was a close ally of the SFP. Back during the glorious international proletarian campaign to build a Super Commune in Merry Old Russia, he was one of the key architects of the New Economic Policy.
Well, anyway. At the end of the day, it is just people playing the game in various ways. It is fun to troll, for sure. And it is very much exciting to see actual debate emerging once more in the US press. But I hope we can all keep our sense of humor too while waging our pretend-wars and ersatz-politics.
PQ is e-v-i-l Socialist scum! His two face, backstabbing of the American Elite is an affront to all holy Dioism! He lies and then lies to say he says no lie! Not prone to actual debate to defend his position by relies on propaganda devised by twisted minds capable of despicable deeds!
*how am i doing? are we having fun yet? lololol btw, been talking with lysander about the india thing. oops! better go before people notice we're talking*
You should just pack up your Communist tyranny and trot on down Cuban paths. In that way you would have a better shot at nuking the US and taking over the last great free nation on earth!
And another thing...
Spoken like pickled Pickle. I... uuuuueeerrrrrppp!!... salute you sir.
Male Canadians have no sense of humor. It is removed at birth instead of the foreskin.
Point taken PQ, eloquently stated as always.
Stop Complaining About It and Do Something. And you are! Go team.
Stop calling people names and maybe more people would take you seriously. Kemal has done more for this country than 99% of the people that have lived here since this stupid game started.
Why aren't you people complaining about congress? Kemal and the rest of the EC just gave them the numbers. Lowering the WT (Bob, if you will) will mean a drastic reduction in our income, meaning we would have to reduce spending, or go into deficit spending and have to raise Bob up again.
Pretty sure I did a lot of complaining about congress here...
Where? You didn't mention congress once, or allude to anything but the "ruling few." Whatever that means.
Fair enough, I will be more specific next time about who exactly i am ranting about.
...and yes the country income would go down and yes we would have to reduce spending also, that was partly my point. I will keep a few more of those dollars myself and use them as I see fit. When this country needs defending or declares a war I deem justified I will use my money myself, rather than give it to a fortunate few who fight blindly for whichever side they are told.
I wasn't talking about your money. I was referring to spending on the gov't level, i.e. the USAF and co's.
Is the problem that you don't understand the math or because you (and your friends) want to be the "elites" that control the country? If it's the former, there are people who can explain it so that it's easier to understand, but if it's the latter, just come out with it and be honest about your intentions.
I don't really think PilotPhil belongs to the crowd who were happy with high government spending when they were on the receiving end of the money. From what I can understand, his dislike of the taxes is a principle. Sort of like the defenders of private property above all, like Nozick.
That is a position I can understand, although I am a pure consequentialist.
Translation:
beerman makes more off the govt running his MU than it costs him to WaM his companies.
That's a joke btw.
Is Bia still around?
I was hoping that was a joke pickl. I haven't gotten anything from the gov't since before I quit... Beer's Bombers is happily surviving by itself, though it's not hard when I'm the only semi-active person in it. lol
Unfortunately, no. I haven't seen her in a month or so.
Beerman that is exactly the spending I am talking about. The government gives my tax money to individuals in the USAF to help them fight when and where they are told to fight. These individuals benefit from these fights with BH medals etc. Some of these battles I disagree with. So do many others. If my taxes were a bit lower I could use that money to fight for the causes that I choose to support. Don't think I am not a patriot. I have a few medals to prove it. I was even given some sort of national award by Gnilraps for my efforts against Canada of all places. I even supported the war then. If we fight a war on foreign soil that I support I will be right there in the thick of things. If Iowa gets attacked I will be the first to do everything I can to defend my country. I am tired, however, of seeing my tax money go toward a war that I think is unjust and that should have ended long ago.
Ok, I get where you are coming from now. That point didn't come across in your article. We're really talking about two different things though.
1. the war with Canada (and serbia via mpp)
2. The WT rate
In regards to 1. I understand now. I am getting a little weary of the war too, mostly because it's old news. In regards to 2. I don't agree with lowering the tax rate. I don't think a few bucks a day makes a difference to me, and I'd rather keep building up the treasury, or spending the money on new conquests or domestic programs. I trust the numbers I've read about lowering the WT and the effects it could/would have on our economy.
Btw, this is a much better discussion.
Beerman, you and a few others here made reasonable points about name calling. It does tend to cheapen the message. I have edited out the word "asshat".
Dammit! Civilly! Lol I am not as good at that!
Reported for the insult. Are you so desperate for arguments that you can do nothing but resort to insults and personal attacks? Unfortunately that is how it looks like.
I am yet to see an article from the anti-tax crowd that states their problems clearly and without resorting to ad hominem attacks like "thieves, elites, stealing our money"... Without rational discussion, the only thing you will accomplish will be dividing the country further.
WWWWWHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
^ Yeah, exactly like that.
YES! Nailed it, a perfectly accurate paraphrase of your comment.
Thank you for your approval.
Just look at ur argumentation concerning the Import Tax which is based on an RL fallacy and completly wrong . We need a higher IT and a lower WT.
Lol. Just lol.
My first report! I will be a member of the alternate elite soon I hope!
I don't think so; you need to have stolen infrastructure paid for by taxpayer money for that. Yeah, there are a lot of people who stole government infrastructure, and are now pushing for a low work tax because they do not want to pay any taxes on stolen companies. The more you know, right?
lol the only argument u have 🙂 Everybody else except u is wrong !!! Get back to earth 🙂
What argumentation of mine do you refer to?
I know for a fact that any economist on this planet would agree with me on the issue, since none of the arguments against free trade in RL apply at eRepublik.
Free trade only works if every major country applies it ! In Erep except the eUS no other country our size applies 1% IT. So basically u are giving free acces to our markets to our "ennemies" without any reciprocity. That in itself is not very clever. Given that every major country in Erep has spare production capacity or is already in "overproduction" ur tax is "destroying" potential jobs in the eUS.
And don't tell me the prices will rise ! Have a look at the markets in all the countries applying at least 20 % IT . The prices are holding in a spread of about 2 cts.
Where did u study economics ? At the Miami Beach University 🙂
No you are wrong, free trade is always worth it in eRepublik because citizens of a country can always evade the import taxes by buying from abroad and selling it here.
I have an Ivy League Econ PhD, have papers with top 10 economists, my papers are regularly accepted to all the worlds top econ conferences, attend meetings in the Federal Reserve Bank, and have received many fellowships for the quality of my work. And I guess you never took Econ 001. One of my students can explain to you why you are wrong.
This argument for bypassing IT applies only to WRM & FRM for food & weaps you would still pay the foreign sales tax to avoid the IT
I assume since you can do direct sales (for food & weps) and thereby bypass Sales Tax & IT you would be in favor of lowering the sales tax
U don’t answer any of my objections concerning Erep economics. U are trying to apply RL concepts, which in itself are debatable, to Erep. And that doesn’t make any sense!
If u are really teaching economics I have pity on your students.
U know what they say about economists “The only thing more dangerous than an economist is an amateur economist!”
That seems to apply in ur case.
And you would be the judge of that, right? OK.
"I have an Ivy League Econ PhD, have papers with top 10 economists, my papers are regularly accepted to all the worlds top econ conferences, attend meetings in the Federal Reserve Bank, and have received many fellowships for the quality of my work"
All that and you still can't win an argument on a childish browser game without throwing a temper tantrum, impressive.
