Reality vs. Blue Team
Since eRep has been failing at keeping itself online I figure this is as good a time as any to suggest some interesting tidbits that could be added to the military module.
You know, when they should be doing major maintenance anyway
The Wall:
While eRepublic is a forum game at heart it is designed to at least simulate actually military and governmental situation. In fact eRep could be compared closely to 17th and 18th Century Europe. It was a time when borders were fluid, alliances were always shifting, and you would sell your own mother and her pet cat for a few extra battalions. Furthermore, the Great Game was being played by the powers of Europe and Asia for control over the entire Globe. This was when warfare was decided by gentlemen and no one had Nukes to get in the way of a good cavalry charge.
That being said (eloquently no less) it would be interesting if our military module could accommodate some equally realistic accommodations.
Currently, the military strength of any given zone is, or in eRep the size of a zone’s Wall, is decided by how many citizens live in that zone plus how much of a defense infrastructure is in place to defend it. Give or take some minor other variables.
Yet, near impossible feats of military aggression happen on a consistent basis that would otherwise be ridiculous in our world.
• Brazil invading Australia from across the globe.
• England invading the United States from across the pond (granted they Actually have a Navy)
• Greece and Turkey attacking across the Aegean
• Even the United States launching a massive assault of Japan from their base in Hawaii (one would guess they stopped off in Guam for coconuts and Mai Tai’s)
All of these attacks took place across the ocean against a defended beach, and in some cases a god damm well defended beach. Ask the boys at Omaha, it isn’t easy being Red team.
This isn’t even considering factors such as crossing major rivers (think it’s easy, ask the British. They wanted to cross this little stream known as the Somme, cost them 70,000 casualties in one day), Fighting in the Mountains (How is that going Korea), Snow (Napoleon thought it was fun), Jungle (looking at you Vietnam), or Desert (remember to pack your Dora the Explorer lunch box and thermos of water). When fighting in the Desert, make sure you did not leave your Israeli Air Force back home.
What I am alluding to is I would find it great for the Wall on a particular zone to be higher or lower depending on what the conditions any particular country might be fighting in.
Brazil wants to invade an Australian Coastal region. That’s going to be double the normal Wall considering you’re supposed to be hauling all your equipment and supplies across half the globe to attack a defended beach against a well trained army of homicidal Kangaroo commando units.
Want to invade that region from a region right next door on flatland in July? That Wall will be lower depending on the circumstances. Want to invade Russia in the summer. No Penalty. Invade in the winter. Good Luck Hitler.
Added layers of tactics would only improve the strategy and decision making of our military forces. And make eRepublic a hell of a lot cooler and realistic.
Watch out Peace, we just got a few new Tanks

Love these ideas.
sounds interesting.
Nice. Admin you reading this?
ahh the cavalry
I can see implementing some of those kinds of changes as static variables to the walls, but unless you've got someone adjusting all the variables daily, I don't see how you could really have a time of year variable, such as Russia in the winter being impossible, as opposed to the summer (Napoleon did take Moscow in the winter, though, but that didn't turn out so well). Still, great ideas. How about a random generator to determine weather also? Fighting in the rain and mud is much harder than in the sun with dry ground.
Well, you could set generic 4 month intervals. Say Nov through Feb would be considered "winter" across the globe, and reversed in the southern hemisphere.
I Like the seasons concept.
However, there are such things as boats, so attacking across the Aegean or Atlantic isn't such a far-off concept.
No, the Aegean isn't that large, but you still have to offload your troops onto a hostile shore no matter how far they come from.
Ask the Aussies, they remember alittle battle known as Galipoli
