Ten Reason to Join the Army

A reprint of the original article I wrote for the Army Times.

TEN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN THE U.S. ARMY!

1. It's strong. Though you only need 9 strength to join and the rank of Captain, the average strength of a member of the Army is 14.

2. It's powerful. The Army can put forth over 150,000 damage on the field with just Q1s, and is a main fighting force of the official U.S. Military.

3. It's large. The Army is well staffed with about 250 soldiers and officers. But this doesn't mean lack of organization. The Army has become so powerful it was recently divided into two sections: Army West Group and Army East Group.

4. It's a great experience. Joining the Army opens up a whole new aspect in the eRepublik world. The many friends you will meet make the Army experience one of the best in eRepublik.

5. It's well established and staffed. The Army has been around for a long, long time. We've definitely refined the process of doing things. With the helpful and well-trained staff of the Army you'll never be in doubt.

6. It's funded and efficient. The Army receives money from the U.S. Government providing it with a steady and constant source of cash. But to ensure a constant supply of weapons we have numerous companies for our men. This partially self-sufficient system keeps a gun in your hand, but doesn't overload our soldiers: unlike other branches and militias, once you've graduated recruit training you only have to work for Army wages 50% of the time.

7. It's armed. For almost every single battle soldiers are provided with Q1 weapons. For the very important battles our soldiers receive higher qualities, such as Q3 weapons. As long as you roll call daily there is rarely a time when you fight without gun in hand.

8. It's fun. From the coordinated mass attacks to the quick deployments to anywhere in anyplace in the world, a soldier rarely complains of boredom. With the Army you get a chance to actually do something in eRepublik.

9. It's a chance to help your county. Though following civilian orders from the Department of Civilian Orders helps too, joining the Army takes things to the next level. With the Army you can be sure to help your country in the best way possible.

10. It's the best choice you'll make in eRepublik. Read some of these quotes from current members of the Army telling what they think of it.

Rct. Neematode
"I like it a lot. I like the free weapons. I like how it is more casual than TC. I like how helpful everyone is."

1st Sgt. Mekajiki:
"For me, the Army started out as a way to join a community within eRepublik. I was thrown into the Reception Battalion and within a matter of 3 days I learned many things about the mechanics of the game. After that, I was put into a platoon and have made the best eRep friends I have. I would never go back to civilian life in eRepublik, the Army life, including deployments, exciting mass attacks, and good friends on IRC is way too much fun."

Cpt. Onishi:
"The Army Experience? I'd say it's one phrase. 'We live to tear down walls.'"

Cpt. Ralph Ericson:
"Generally for me the Army is what made this game worth playing. I have made a lot of friends here, some who I talk to in RL or hope to meet irl fairly soon, if I get the chance. It gives you something to do in the game and a great group of people to do it with."

Maj. Jerseygirl:
"I've been army since November 2008, clearly I like the army. 😛 I will stay army until they kick me out. For a long time I stuck around for the free guns, but these days the reason I stay is really the people that I've met along the way. Yes, even Wakyz. 🙂"

Maj. Gen. Batterytime:
"Joining the Army has been a highly rewarding time for me. I started in the Army back in September as a private, and truly got interested in this game. I was mainly a two-clicker before, and ended up being a low-activity grunt in the Army for a bit. However, I got my first taste of leadership when I was approached for a platoon XO spot, and I've taken leaps and bounds from there. The Army, I can safely say, is a place of great opportunity, and has some of the best guys you'll ever meet. If you're capable, you can have your chance at rising the ranks here; I know I sure did."
