State of the Nation, Part 1

Day 986, 14:32 Published in Singapore Singapore by Tommy Aquinas

ADIOS AMIGOS! Ima outta here! It's the war module and two clicking for me. I'm completely and utterly burned out. Thanks very much to those who voted me, for those who put their faith in me, and for those I've worked with in the past, and those I worked with closely this term. In particular this month, I'd like to thank American Border Collie, iLord Solomon and abdullah australi. Without you three, I wouldn't have made it through the month. Thanks also due to Mista, Luugh, CBM, Tifididl, Elliana and Parrington for helping out when I asked. Thanks also to Woshie for being a reliable employer in this month of months. So it's time for me to give the state of the nation, where we are at, and where we should go.

Presidential goals and Cabinet

First of all, I must apologise for not reaching PARIS during my term. In this I have failed Singapore. To make up for it, I have been focussing the wrath of our congress on stopping trade with the evil Uruguay, but those dastardly congressmen don't seem to share my hatred for Uruguay. All joking aside, we are still on the map, so that is a positive. Our population has increased by 11%, which is way more than the goal set 🙂 How many of that is multies, I don't know. I can't comment on the GDP goal, as V2 seems to be bugged on that one.

You think selecting a cabinet is the most important thing you can do before an election, right? Wrong. All of my original cabinet were replaced. This was due to my VP Bruce and Security man Tortea leaving the game; Atracurium and Relorian not being in Singapore anymore; Assiel, thedark ace, Silent Hero and Elianna having rl stuff to do, and Kryte seemingly reverting back to two clicking. Admittedly I didnt give enough instructions to Logan to work in Community initially, but abdullah showed such initiative in the area that I had to give him the job.

So my advice to the incoming President is this: select a cabinet that you talk to everyday, on some form of live chat. And don't pick a big cabinet, or put in too many positions. There will be days when it's just you, and you'll need the help from somewhere. Don't be afraid to ask whoever is online to help you. Share the responsibility. Don't expect too much of anyone. And be prepared to do a lot of work yourself. I also advise you to befriend Arbryn and Relorian if you haven't already. They possess a wealth of knowledge about the nuances of Singapore that will prove valuable to you. Thanks guys 🙂

Make sure you have people you can talk to who can tell you that you are wrong or right. I had a list of advisers that I spoke to often, although not as often as I should have. At the end of the day, the buck rests with you, and you have to make the right decision or do the right thing, and sometimes quickly. Don't be afraid to take what you think is the right course.

Presidential organisation

When I came into the Presidency, the only thing I was handed was a document with the org names on it. Now when our Presidents hand over the reins, they can hand over 8 documents full of everything they nee😛 contact details, org and email passwords and access, an auto-updating citizen tracker for all our citizens including new ones, and a document for each of the 5 governmental areas: Finance, Military, Security, Foreign Affairs and Community (or working with citizens, whatever you want to call it). These outline everything from daily tasks to military fosters to wage calculations to foreign forums. They're an important asset to have, and I view organisation as one of the important things I did as President this term.

Security

Our biggest success came in Security. While we had to essentially close down immigration due to having no tools and not having very many congressmen for most of the term, but this wasn't a bad thing. As I pointed out in an article, a lof of pto problems come with giving citizenship. So I hope the new government takes a sensible policy with immigration, and doesn't give it out lightly.

Our other big success was in securing all 10 congress seats; in fact, we managed to organise it in such a way that we only had 10 running. This is the type of discipline which is needed to prevent PTO in future, and I would recommend that the same security procedures be followed again next term. Take a zero-tolerance policy!

Reporting multiple accounts is a big must for next term. Organise with the citizens, the army and your allies to mass report suspected multiple accounts. We couldn't track them due to losing tools, but having resurrected the tracker, you can now go through it, pick out the multies and mass report. This should be Number One on the To-Do-List for the next administration.

Finance

I'm happy with how we got on financially this time round. All transactions were recorded accurately and explained. The monetary market was thrown out of whack with V2, and demand for SGD fell while supply of gold shrank. But with a bit of diligent work and luck, we managed to bring the SGD up from 0.019 to 0.02, and the Gold down from a massive 59 to where it is today at around 54, by reducing the offers 0.01 at a time. We gave out loans to some trusted citizens to keep up our raw materials supply. If the right loan application comes along, go for it. So the to-do list for the next administration is to update the company register, give them advice on their next migrations (coming soon), keep tracking transactions and keep the MM managed.

Foreign Affairs

We did some good work this month. Relations with eSouth Africa were renewed. Singapore has been a leading founding member of ONE, and our next President will have the honour of signing the charter. Just keep up the good work is the advice I can give. Instead of having loads of ambassadors (I thought 8 was loads), just have one or two people who go to foreign forums to post cabinets, and keep an eye out for PTO's and wars abroad. Still, having a functioning alliance will help a lot of that, so give it your best effort, and Singapore will take its place among the nations of the eWorld.

I'll release Part 2 about the army and noobs before I hand things over.

Regards,

Tommy
