Socialism For Survival

Day 394, 17:55 Published in Australia Ireland by Trine

"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone." - John Maynard Keynes

The very idea that a society can cease to exist simply because of it's economic policy is most likely a foreign concept to someone born after 1989. The early 1990's saw the downfall of the vast majority of the "Socialist" world. Many had hoped they had seen the last of Socialism.

It is true that Socialism ceases to have a broad mass appeal during times of economic prosperity in capitalist countries. During such times people would wonder why they could want anything but the status quo. Unfortunately for them, the status quo is one thing money cannot buy them.

Now that the country of Australia has emerged from under the iron curtain of Indonesia, we are seeing a resurgence in socialist thinking. This is only natural. The survival of our society demands that we all look out for each other, not just number one. While no one here would like to see the authoritarian socialists of the Cold War return, the Australian people are showing themselves particularly wise in allowing a climate of benevolent Democratic Socialism pervade society.

Evidence of the value placed on individuals is everywhere in eAustralia. The starting fee for new Citizens ensures that no one will go hungry. The availability of jobs across the skill spectrum, despite the low numbers of companies and the lack of availability AUD to businesses. The calls to support Australian owned businesses despite imports coming at cheaper price points, and the noble ability to fight for ones own land rather than a pointless war on a separate continent.

eAustralians have much to be proud of, and plenty of room to do more. Just remember how you got here once the economic boom comes.
