Should We Surrender?

Day 629, 18:42 Published in USA USA by Jack Flufferton

America, things are not looking good. We have lost 33 of our original 51 regions. We may be down to just one high-productivity region - Pennsylvania - within a few hours. Wages have been destroyed. The value of the dollar continues to fall. Switzerland, North Korea and Canada have all been destroyed, although Canada is now back on the map. Asturias and Central Greece are being targeted, and if PEACE wants them badly enough, they will get them within days.

While I don't trust eRep's stats completely, one can get a quick, general idea of the economic situation. eRep says the US has 936 companies left, only good enough for seventh place worldwide. In contrast, Indonesia has 3421, Hungary has 2407 and Russia has 1066 companies. We can tax the living piss out of those 936 companies (although many aren't active), but it's not going to cut it.

Our GDP isn't in any better shape. We rank eighth with 1238 GOLD, but Hungary, Indonesia and Russia have a combined GDP of 18,000 GOLD...

The real kick in the nuts, if it turns out to be true, is that Spain messed up and lost 16,000 GOLD. Shit. Shit, shit, shit.

It makes most sense to cut our losses, try to get a high grain and oil region back and rebuild. I don't see a huge difference between 51 states and 25 states, other than it would take longer to conquer 51 states. Without a formal government of our own, we won't get in on any of the tax money. Organizing ourselves, and especially new players, would be significantly more difficult as people may be spread out over four or five occupying countries populations, not to mention the diaspora populations.

We really need to surrender
...but should we?

EFF NO!

Seriously, could you live with yourself if you gave up in a computer game played with random-ass people? This is a game, not real life. Nobody is going to get hurt if your homeland is destroyed. Sure, your hard work might be destroyed, but that only adds to the fun and the drama.

Don't take our losses so hard, they're just better at either cheating or spending real money to buy GOLD, and better at growing the GOLD they do have. I admire their dedication to the game - it's very impressive to see people who literally do nothing but spam comments in articles 20 hours a day and track our every movement, learning more about us than we know about ourselves. Luckily, through this conflict we have learned the importance of educating ourselves for the time we regain world prominence. When that happens:
