Shanethe13 - Official Speech

Day 349, 13:44 Published in Czech Republic Germany by shanethe13

Over the past few days, once again Erepublik has been buzzing with political activity. Everyone is saying which candidate they endorse, and which one isn't right for the job, something that no one should be telling you. Whom you vote for, should be chosen by you, not based on what party they belong to, or who everyone is telling you to vote for. Therefore, I'm not telling you to vote for me, and I'm not telling you not to vote for Aexil Kong, instead, I'm asking for a moment of your time, so that you may better understand my plans.

There are dozens of things I wish I could promise, however the reality is, I can't. As my old rival, and new friend Ivan Hat once stated, some things take time, while others are at times impossible. I wish I could promise a trade agreement with every nation, or an MPP with every country, but I can't; to do so would be lying. Although I will form trade agreements when worth the cost, or MPP's when the country feels they are needed, it is both wasteful, and inefficient to form said agreements with everyone.

I also wish I could improve the economy overnight; abolishing homelessness, and bringing hundreds of new jobs in, but again, this is a surreal promise. While I will make an active effort to change the country, the change wont occur overnight, instead it will take place in steps, improving, yet remaining stable, over the period of my term. As a great chinese philosopher once said;

"It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward."

This quote stands true for my platform as a whole, while I plan to change the country, such changes mustn't be made at once, lest the country risk instability, and while we may be on top briefly, it won't last.

I also believe that we should forge, and maintain positive relations with Slovakia; not only exporting goods there, but also importing from them. I know a lot of you consider importing a useless venue, something that will bring our country to ruin, but the fact is, we need to import; maybe not now, but we will, and when importing, it is best to import from an ally, someone who benefits from our trade, while giving us the best prices possible.

As you've probably noticed, I haven't mentioned much in relation to domestic issues, and instead have been focusing on my role in a broad sense. With the release of V1, a president's powers have changed drastically, and no longer does the president have complete control over local policies, instead that job is given to congress. The president's new role, consists almost entirely of foreign affairs. The president is the person who negotiates with nations abroad, and as such, must be diplomatic in every sense of the word. An aggressive president, will be met with aggression, something that we can not afford at this point. If elected, forming Non-Aggression Pacts with nearby nations would be a primary concern; we can't afford a war, so the best course of action is to simply not start one.

While on the topic of foreign relations and war, I just wanted to point out that our country is in need of a national Defense System, and with our newfound gold, we can afford to purchase one. However, rather than rush into things, I plan on negotiating as good a deal as possible. I refuse to purchase something that major for retail value, even a 15% discount seems too expensive. If it takes me two weeks of constant diplomacy to find a cost worthy of the reward, then so be it.

First and foremost, if elected I would be completely open and sincere with everyone in the country. I wont plot behind congress' backs, and I won't hide the countries troubles from the people. If there is something everyone needs to know, I will be sure that they do in fact know; in order for a government to be sucessful, it must be transparent in its dealings, open to ideas from the public, and mature when dealing with opposing parties. These are all virtues that I would strive to maintain.

In closing, I just wanted to say one thing. I'm not a perfect person, and I won't be a perfect leader. I will make mistakes, as will everyone in their life, however, I won't hide these mistakes, and when they appear, I will deal with them. On Wednesday when you login to vote, don't vote for someone because they are the most popular candidate, and don't vote for something because they belong to your party; vote for someone because they are the right person for the job.
